Just when we were ready to resign ourselves to the fact that Spider-Man games had reached their peak and were on the decline -- in terms of quality -- along comes this combat trailer for Web of Shadows, and melts our faces off.
It features a 3D combat system that would make any fan of the webhead proud, and seems to finally do the unthinkable: nail the Spider-Man experience to a tee. Not only does the trailer show ground and aerial combat merging together seamlessly, but you can even switch between the familiar red/blue and black suits on the fly. DO WANT!
Now if only we could talk these guys into taking over the Superman license...
finally a Spider-man game I want. That combat looks so freakin awesome and like you said, seamless. It kinda reminds me of the multiple enemy comabt/lock on stuff from something like Sands of Time. I cant wait to find out what the story is in this game.
Looks fantastic so far, gotta wonder though, will there be a series a pop up on the screen buttons to press for all that combat or will it all be completely fluid and up to the gamer? From the looks, all up to the gamer, but it's not uncommon for the devs to leave stuff out of their videos.
Having worked for Activision and its partners in the past, I can tell you that Shaba is incapable of making a quality product. It may look decent, but it will ultimately be hollow, repetitive and unsatisfying. Don't be deceived, people. The Spiderman license is being raped on all fronts.
That does look great but I hope it doesn't get repetitive and you end up doing the same combo over and over because you find nothing else works as well. I'll play it tho. Looks exciting.
Looks damn fine. I never played Spider-Man 3, but 2 was pretty awesome for the swinging mechanic, but they're right, it was pretty separate to the combat. The aerial combat looks ace, and I also approve of all the apparently grunt-level enemies that are clones of established enemies. Hopefully there will be random encounters with named villains too. I would also hope for a good unlock system if they decide to stick to an upgrade system. One of the things the new Hulk game got right was the novel unlock system tied to achievements rather than a points system.
Graphics, web and the symbiote effects all look great too, this is very much on my wish list. Let's get Bruce Cambpell in on this too. I will love it that much more if we have him doing the tutorial (one of the few redeeming features of Spider-man 1)
still on the fence. Spider-Man 3 the game was just a joke and it's going to take a LOT to get me to play another Spider-Man game... plus this is a relatively unknown company doing their first big game - and they're working with Treyarch, who did Spider-Man 3 (in fact, the game looks like it borrowed a lot of its assets from SM3).
I wouldn't look at it as more of the same schtick we got with the Spider-Man Movie games. Besides, they're all games from the same franchise and the same company, so they're all going to borrow from each other or share large similarities. Not to mention the fact that there is always a ridiculous deadline put on developers for movie games which has gotta be a hindrance on their work (Iron Man Game). The gameplay and the way they are presenting it makes me think more of the Ultimate Spider-Man game and that game while a little on the short side for my tastes, was great. This one seems to be a great improvement on the fluid play that Ultimate presents, while the movie games always seemed choppy and almost robotic in the way things moved.
E3 may be over but some of us can't stop talking about all the cool things we got to see and play at this year's show. There was just so much good stuff on display, both for current-gen and next-generation consoles.
