A brand new video showcasing the gameplay in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions has hit the web (har de har har) and it has to be said that the results are rather impressive so far. With Arkham Asylum causing critics to jizz up a storm last year, comic book games have their work cut out for them, and it seems that Shattered Dimensions is aiming to live up to the new standard.

What do you think, looking at the footage? Could we indeed have a second strike of lightning for the comic book game scene, or are you unimpressed by what you've seen of Shattered Dimensions thus far? Let the world know!

Well I'm glad Arkham Asylum has given cause for companies to ya know actually try with super hero titles.

With any luck us Superman fans will get both a decent game and movie come 2 years from now. However I'm not holding my breath on that.

Looks good. I liked the whole "blunt weapons made out of spider web". Also watching the "stealth" part it made me think how awesome a gritty, realistic spider-man game would be, it may kinda go against the series/character but it would still be awesome.

It seems level based like the ps1 version (the best version) which is good since now they can focus on game play and graphics instead of having to make another open world new york. this just might be a something to lookout for

I'll be a sourpuss and say that it looks like the spidee we have seen before and I need more to become excited.

Gameplay looks awesome but I'm not digging the brown color scheme there going with in the levels. Just a personal preference but I'd like to see a little more color.

Looks good, but trailers always do.
I too hope this is level based for gameplay's sake.

Looks like the same old crappy Activision Spider Man games. Now with better graphics.

Its a brawler. The same half ass brawler Spider Man games turns out to be.

Spider man is the incredible frachise whose games dosent need movies to be as bad as movie games.

Looks okay, i guess. Your basic hack'n'slay gameplay, but with Spider-Man. It will need more than that to reach the level of awesomeness that was Arkham Asylum.

I was worried it wasn't going to be exactly like Arkham Asylum but my fears have been alighted thanks to the mutated colossus fights in this trailer.

I second JanitorShmoo's comment: Where are all the colors?

Spiderman is not exactly known for his grim and gritty visuals in the comic, and while the pause-every-punch thing kinda worked in Arkham Asylum, here it only makes Spidey look stiff.

Even God of War, that was supposed to be grim and gritty, had more fluid animations and more coloful enviroments.

I don't like it.

Tha ts EXACTLY what i was thinkin about 30 seconds into this. Although that might not be a bad thing, mixing that with some webslinging around, could be either really fun, or total shit.

Spiderman draws me in with eccentric characters, over the top scenarios and web-slinging action. This just looks like God of War with web weapons. I like the way he combines web-slinging and fighting in some parts, but I am not liking it overall.

The gameplay looked alright. My hopes are high after the awesomeness of Web of Shadows. That one really good Spider-Man game that apparently only I and that guy at Joystiq who claimed it should've been GOTY played. >.>

Totally put off by lack of open world, loved the last games and am dissapointed they have taken this direction with the series.

And this is the way of future video games with comic book characters. God of War + Arkham Asylum + comic book character = games of the near future.

Sounds good now? Well it won't be long until the formula gets tired.

Also, Spider-Man's spider-tits have become raw and swollen from all the milking. I would have liked another character in his place.

Love the cel-shaded look. Hate the colors (this is Spider-Man! It's supposed to be bright and don't give me that 'Noir Spider' nonsense that is a slap in the face to the character).

Camera seems to be a bit stiff and unless it's made far more fluid I can see a lot of reviewers complaining about headaches as Spider-Man fluidly spins and the camera jerks along.

All the 'web weapons' seem really unnecessary and it's like they're just trying to make this a GoW/Dante's Inferno clone.

At this point I think the thing that's being neglected is a sampling of the dialogue. B:AA did so well with casting voice actors and writing great dialogue and there's a similar opportunity with Spider-Man. Spidey's a loudmouth and I'd rather not hear about a game where you hear him say the same 3-word quip every 5 seconds in combat.

Good trailer (horrible music though, my ears bled), but this being Activision AND a license game i'll reserve my excitement until at least a preview proves this worth any attention.

This might seem like a minor complaint to some people, but I don't think the animation is very satisfying. What I mean is that the intensity of Spider-Man's attacks don't seem to convincingly match up with the effects felt by the enemies. As a result, the battles seem kind of stilted and artificial.

@ Tekoa - You can get it from the first movie's soundtrack.

They did a pretty good job with the art style of the game. Spidey actually looks like a comic book character. I'm a huge Spiderman fan so I hope to the gaming gods that this will be good. I'm not entirely impressed by the combat yet, it seemed like they were just doing the same thing over and over for two minutes.

First off, Jim.. I just started checking this sit out the past month, and you are pretty damn funny. Keep it up dude.
Second, I am liking, kind of, the looks of the game. I like the change of the entire city is open up thing! I mean, after spider man 2, it was just old and tired-plus the city had ZERO personality-nothing like just causes and GTA's-those cities areas had more life. So, i like and hope they stay away from the OPEN city thing-cause they can't do a good job at it. Next, i was always hoping for a more of a mix of the wolverine-newest game and batman A.A. mix vibe. I always wanted to be spidey and sneak up to badies on the ceiling with my web crawl then yank them up with my web to the ceiling, scarying the crap out of the other badies! Batman did a great job at that, and the creators should work with that idea...

also, why did so many like the open world of the prior spideys? I thought it was ugly, poorly done, and Borrrrrrrreing.. the landscapes - building had same shade, just blah. If the makers of just cause 2 made a spidey game open world, then my friends, i would dig it!

It looks great, my only problem is that it doesn't have the open-world aspect that I loved about Spiderman 2. I really don't think Spiderman works good as just a linear brawler type-game.

But that freakin' song has got to go! Holy crap, that's bad.
I take that back. The song would be good if it was instrumental. But someone slit the singer's throat pronto.

Oh, and:

@AdamantiumHip-
You are not alone. Web Of Shadows was the best Spider-man game ever made. I love it, too.
So naturally Activision took it away from the developer who got it right.
Sigh.

Smells like Good of War to me. I wonder how Companies are not able to pull something unique out of the Spiderman franchise. The character would be well suited to do something new and incredible. But maybe the freedom that comes with Spideys powers is the problem. This Video only shows some bland graphics and God of War/Dante's Infernoesque fighting. Fans will buy it nontheless. I will wait for some reviews.

Got a little bit tired of him swinging that block-thing around to kill everyone. The preview made it look like that was one of, like, two moves you could do. I also hated that horrible cover of the Spiderman song. That being said, I'm willing to see wait and see what the critics say before passing any serious judgement.
