Speedrun: Oblivion beaten in 11 minutes

     Glitches

How in the ... oh, right. I knew The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was a glitchy game, but hot damn, this is insane.

Almost every speedrun out there involves some sort of exploit in order to shave off precious seconds of game time (or in this case, hours), and the Oblivion speedrun located above is no exception.

By falling through the map, the speedrunner is able to initiate the game's final quest, completely skipping all of those pesky fetch missions.

While the video has no sound due to its creator being cheap and using demo software, it's still one to sit through.

Wow... How the hell do people figure this stuff out? It took me like 80 hours to beat the game (Including all of the guilds)

Theres a vid on youtube of a guy who got a paint brush, used the ol' duplicate glitch and made a stairway of paintbrushes to the top of the imperial tower, which initiated the end battle of the game. Obviously not 11 minutes, but impressive nonetheless. also DONKEYCocks

I've never played Oblivion, but that ending was epic! Too bad it cut out halfway.

Pretty sure there was a TES III Speedrun very similar to this. I love it!

As a matter of fact we are. We spun a giant wheel that lists every game ever made, and Oblivion just happened to be the one that the ticker stopped on.

I haven't watched the video, but jesus freaking christ. I've spent over 100 hours playing oblivion and I've never even made it into the first gate.

I played this game for over 250 hours (vanilla, no mods, official or otherwise) and still didn't finish it. I tried it again later from the beginning with KotN + Shivering Isles + a crap-ton of user mods + a new graphics card, and got about 2 hours in before a soul-crushing sense of being utterly overwhelmed settled in on me and I stopped playing. I almost fear this game as much as I fear MMOs, which is a shame because it's otherwise awesome. I fully intend to go back one of these days and actually beat the damn thing, once enough time has passed (and I can find a spare six months or so when I don't have a billion other newer games waiting for me to play them).

I have no comment on the speedrun. Whether it's from using cheat codes or using glitches, if it's not a legit run I don't care.

This is kind of stupid really. All he did was one simple little thing of falling through a building to activate the end-game trigger prematurely.

Want to see a really fucking impressive speed run? Half-Life 1 in 30 minutes.

And, it has sound:

@KorJax: you people do as he says and watch that half life run.

@Im OK

Yeah, I hear ya about being overwhelmed with Oblivion. I felt the same way, so I had to limit myself to just doing the guild quests and a few of the cooler looking other quests (The two guys trapped in the dream world and in the painting). I just don't have the time to do EVERYTHING.

I'm like 3/4 through the game, it seems, but I'll have to put that on hold for a bit because of Soulcalibur IV and some other stuff.

It took a lot of restraint on my part to not watch the very end of that speed run. I really want to know how this game ends.

Not a speed run if you cheat. But thats an interesting glitch.

i still prefer morrowind. levitate, and the ability to legitly steal the best armor in the game more or less as quickly as thius video is even better rather than leveling up unlocking it all.

I guess the right question to ask, is how the hell did people find that glitch? fair enough i understand getting into the building to be a glitch but for it to initiate the end sequence?

At first I also was overwhelmed by Oblivion. Many friends who've tried the game have stopped playing it because they felt "too free". But when I finally picked a character I liked and started doing the main quests I got completely hooked... I spent a whole summer playing it!

Damn you Destructoid, now I want to play it again!

@The Bozz

lol Yeah, seeing it mentioned on Dtoid like 8 times last week gave me a serious craving for some Oblivion. I spent quite a few hours this past weekend immersed in that game. It's crazy how much I lose track of time in the real world while playing this.

I love Oblivion. Love it. I don't know if I'll ever be fully "done" with the game. I have put almost 200 hours in, and have done most of the sidequests, including some of the guilds, but not all. I finally had to just beat the main quest to see how it all turns out. I still have to check out Shivering Isles and KOTN!

Not a true speedrun if you use a glitch

I get overwhelmed by Oblivion very easily if I don't dedicate myself to a specific task or chain of quests. I devoted about a week to the Dark Brotherhood quests, and I went from there to the main quest. I'm pretty far into it, but I've been derailed in an effort to explore the Shivering Isle. The broad array of mods I'm using has made the game quite interesting; though every mob in the game is much tougher than in vanilla, I've got new tools at my disposal to make up the difference.
