Space Invaders Extreme 2 screens, PAL release date photo

Taito and Square-Enix have just announced that Space Invaders Extreme 2, the sequel to what was easily one of my favorite DS games of last year, will be arriving in PAL region territories on October 2nd. The game is slated for release in the US on September 23rd.

This new version boasts some cool new features like an enhanced Battle Play mode, a new "Bingo" round-clearing system, and a new score attack mode that acts as a beginner's course, with an infinite player stock. Even if you're quite skilled at games like this, that sounds like a nice opportunity to kick back and blast away at things if you ask me. Sometimes you just want to shoot stuff.

Thankfully, the game retains all of the qualities that made the first one great, like its download play function, varied stages and great soundtrack. Check out the gallery below for some screenshots and hit the jump for the full details.

I bought this game on xbawks... and literally, there are maybe 10 people that play it. I know this is for the DS, but, how could it garner a sequel when the first one did so bad?

We need a sequel to Space Invaders: Infinity Gene, not this.

Maybe because when Gamestop dropped the price to $10 of the original for a few days, everyone realized how awesome it was.

You clearly haven't played the original or the sequel. Don't talk about what you don't know, even if Infinity Gene was a good game as well.

Hurp derp, someone doesn't know how game profits work.

You seem kinda rude, for not having an avatar and what not, why don't you tone down the bitchiness?

@reenee,
why not hop off of Space Invader's dick for a moment and get an avatar?

Me and Freetouch expressed our OPINIONS; why in the fuck are you getting so defensive? Show me on the doll where SI: Infinity Gene touched you?

FYI: I've played both extensively. I prefer Infinity Gene. If that bothers you, sorry.

This sequel surprises me. I was never a huge SI fan, but i bought SI Extreme and enjoyed it greatly. But what's the point of the sequel? Could it really be that different?

Are you guys seriously arguing about Space Invaders? Because I was just happening by and it looked like you were actually having an argument about Space Invaders. There are lots of silly things for people to argue about in this world, such as leaving the cap off the toothpaste, but none quite so silly as arguing about Space Invaders. If you're all in on some joke I'm not aware of, that's fine, I'll go back to work, but for a minute there it looked like you were arguing about Space Invaders. Just checking.

Maybe it's just me but slamming out another Space Invaders Extreme this early runs the risk of jumping the shark like the old version did. Let this one sit for a couple years, let it fester, make up a HUGE list of changes, then, when the times right, put out a worthy successor.

I've played the japanese version of this. It was fun, but it was far easier than Space Invaders Extreme 1

Soo looking forward to this game, Number 1 was easily my fav game of last year, played the hell out of it, brought the album, bought the headphones. The game made me love Space Invaders and this one looks even more amazing then the last. Everyone needs to check out the Moe themed level

@BenHaskett,
The top screen is better utilized in the sequel.
The pacing is much faster than the original because of that.

Gameplay wise, I like the sequel better.
However, the original has more catchy tunes.

It's a lot faster. But did you even try Extreme 5-C?

I want another Infinity Gene. Every other Space Invaders is, to me, the same basic Space Invaders it's largeely always been, give or take.

Plus Infinity Gene was $5 for the absolute best game I've ever downloaded to my iPhone, and that's pretty fucking sweet.
