Soul Calibur IV box art revealed: PS3 is Dark Side, Xbox 360 is light side photo
     PS3

Is Namco Bandi trying to tell us something here with these Soul Calibur IV box arts? Is the PS3 the evil side and the Xbox 360 the good side? Who cares, they both look amazing. It works out really nicely too. Having Darth Vader accompanied by Nightmare and Ivy who are a couple of the evil characters from the game matches nicely on the normally black system. The same goes for Yoda who's accompanied by Siegfried and newcomer Hilde as the light characters on the normally white system.

The box arts have popped up on GameStop's Web site but it isn't known for sure if these are the final versions. Hopefully it is as they're both fantastic. Plus, they're pretty similar to Soul Calibur 2's box art variations so these could very well be the final versions, hopefully.

So the only question left to ask is which version are you getting: Sith or Jedi?

Nightmare is friggin awesome, so is DV, but dam... no Yoda blows, oh well hope they add all characters to DLC and let players just buy them online. Honestly, I don't like this splitting characters per console.

btw, does this mean nada for the Wii? Last time I remember Gamecube getting Link, PS2 Spawn and Xbox a fiery guy. Man is 3rd party games for the Wii blowing that much?

I'm sorry, but I hate, hate, HATE this cover art! I know that I'm going to be labeled as just somebody who hates Star Wars , but I think it's the wrong idea to sell Soul Calibur IV on the strengths of what are essentially novelty characters. Should they be mentioned on the back of the box? Of course they should, I have no problem with that. But these covers indicate that Yoda and Darth Vader are a huge deal, which kind of turns me off of the game. For me Soul Calibur's selling point has nothing to do with Star Wars, and should have nothing to do with Star Wars.

Well, DefunctGamer, they are in line with the Soul Calibur II box-artwork, which featured the exclusive characters on each one.

Of course, even Spawn is a better fit for the series than the Star Wars characters, but this is definately not unprecedented.

Hmmm, I think this is pretty bad-ass. I really hope that Vader is downloadable for the 360 and Yoda is downloadable for the PS3 eventually.

I think it's one of the best things to happen in the world of video games in a while...... I've always thought to myself that Lucasarts should have given the rights to Namco to make a Star Wars fighting game based on the Soul Calibur engine. This is as close as I'll get to that dream I think.

I do agree that they're pushing this Star Wars thing a little bit too much, but think about how this will sell this game. I told some of my friends that Yoda was in SC4 and they went fucking crazy (in a good way). In fact, a pretty hand-drawn picture of Yoda on the cover of any game would attract at least one more buyer.

Why is the "related products" section under the article tell me to buy "That's So Raven" for the GBA?

oh wow, it's only $8.45 at amazon Marketplace

Oooo, awesome. I like how they've done this split box art thing. I hope that doesn't mean each character is console-specific. Nevertheless, that PS3 art is gorgeous. Almost makes me want to waste my money on that system.

FUCK! This box art makes me feel even less likely that the X360 version will get Darth vader in any way. Just make them both available to both NAMCO you BASTARDS!!

@Pendelton21

They've already confirmed that each system is console-specific. At first, at least, later the character that werent on the disc might be available as DLC.

Classy. Tho I can't tell if the covers are drawn or CG due to the lack of detail, both look epic for a game cover. Gotta love the duality, too.

Ivy is evil? Since when? Anyway, neat cover art. Though, you know what would be better than Ivy and Nightmare on the PS3 cover? Freaking Kratos. One can dream after all.

I like old Star Wars a lot and all, but to me those boxes look so damn cheesy with the Star Wars characters plastered on there. I suppose Namco paid good money to use 'em so they're going to pimp the fact that they're in there, but this is way goofier than Link & co being thrown in part II...

the chance that Yoda/PS3 and Vader/360 are DLC later down the line is pretty high.

I don't know, they just seem... off to me. I was a big fan of the last few previous box arts... this, not so much.

I'll probably still pick it up though day one, just like the other SCs.

Well, at first I was very skeptical as to if these were real due to the fact that the Ivy art on the front is from SC3 concept drawings.

Now though, I heard an interesting theory that Ivy is only there as a place-holder for the other as-of-yet-unannounced new character. And if I'm on the right track, the other new character is going to be EVIL!! My hope, a dual hook-sword weilder that's all crazy looking like Kabal from MK.

That would also explain the whole "Ivy's evil?!" thing that's going around since she's not going to be on the finalized "evil" cover.

not true chao, I'd say that decision will pay for itself in the number of Star Wars fans (those who aren't DTOID frequenters or hardcore gamers) who buy the game based purely on the fact that they can play as Darth Vader/Yoda

besides, it worked pretty well for Soul Calibur 2 with Spawn, Link and Heihachi

jackdoe at 03/10/2008 22:45
@Dubbya, actually, I think in SC2's case, it paid off the most for the GC version. That is the version that almost everybody wanted. I mean, c'mon it was the first "next generation" rendition of Adult Link in a time when GC owners only knew about Wind Waker.

I looks like Ivy is not a 3D model but a from concept art or something.

Not sure about Nightmare or Darth Vader though...

If only Ivy is art and others are 3D models... Well it has to be fake. If not... 360 has 3D models and PS3 has Concept Art on the cover?

Maybe I'm getting nick picky over nothing special?

Yea im not really diggin the box art. Looks kinda cheesy to me. Really the only thing that im wondering is whether or not theres going to be more than 3 new characters, well 2 for each console. It would be kinda dissapointing if all i have to work with is yoda and that new chick.

I'm surprised they'd decide to theme the cover art entirely around the novelty characters. Perhaps there is some corporate monkey whispering horrid phrases such as "casual appeal" around the offices of NB?
