Most PSP owners already know how to get their hands on classic games, and it involves methods that Sony doesn't exactly look kindly upon. For those who are not fans of piracy, however, the PSP may soon become home to non-PSOne classics that can be downloaded legally via the PlayStation Network.
"In general there’s a lot of discussion about [publishers'] back catalogs that will finally find its way to PlayStation Network in the back half of this year," says PlayStation hardware marketing man John Koller. "PSOne is included, but everything is on the table…We look for some of those big hits from all of the past games in their history and look for ways we can bring them over. It’s not always easy. There’s obviously technical areas that need to be bridged. But when those are solved, consumers will see a wide variety of retro games and brand new games coming to PSN."
I'm a big fan of the PSN's PSOne Classics section, especially when it provides awesome titles like Suikoden and Medievil (needs more Oddworld though). If these retro games will work on the PS3 as well as the PSP, I'll definitely be interested in seeing what Sony can wrangle.
My guess is that they'll have The Legend of Zelda and Halo: Combat Evolved on the service by next week!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And since Sega releases most of their old games in value priced emulator packages, I have no idea wtf would show up on this service.
Aside from Final Fantasy and Castlevaina Dracula X Chronicles, the thing has just been gathering dust.
Seriously? Like what? Is this guy even aware of homebrew on PSP? They might not like it, but they have to acknowledge that it is there, and, it works great. If they can do it, I have a hard time believing Sony itself would have any trouble at all.
