The psp has a library of over 1000+ games. It had no issue in that department.
I get hyping up vita. But why tear down the psp?
How about this?
Make games for Vita and otherwise let third parties do ports if they want. The problem isn't ports, the problem lies in making Vita fill a role PS3 already does.
Game development takes time and the more complex games become, the more time it's going to take for those games to hit consumers. Like a man, I blame my Myself for picking one up so early instead of blaming the devs.
Lesson learned.
2 things come to mind here:
First, we act like ports are a bad thing, when, honestly, if a port is good and plays well, and is of an awesome game, then who cares?
Second is that Sony never spent any time trying to find an identity for the PSP at all, in the first place. The thing just came out and was sort of there. Sure, people "got it" but it felt like it was just there because Sony wasn't filling a market, instead of them trying to TAKE a market. And how it ultimately proformed really is a result of that.
But its not BECAUSE of ports that this happened. Ports overrunning it is just a result of Sony's poor planning and support for the PSP (which sounds like I'm dogging the support, seeing as it had A LOT of games, but when we need to double back and point out that lots of those games are ports.. well.. you can see some holes in all that "support" right away). The thing needed games, and Sony got games too people. Just because they were games people probably already owned somehow, really, obviously, seems like a hindsight right now the way they're treating it.
Then Peace Walker showed up on PS3 and Half-Minute Hero went to 360 and PC, so the number of "exclusives" on the system is dwindling. Yeah, it was a piece of shit system. Fuck the Vita, too.
I cant think of a vita game thats exclusive even coming out let alone one I want.
Maybe the assasins creed, thats it
I have no problem with that, really, if the gameplay is solid and it contains content I haven't seen in a previous version. The PSP had the misfortune of generally terrible marketing, not to mention the hardware itself never really felt solid technically or physically. Everything on the PSP felt overly clunky or fragile, or just took forever to load or install. The Vita addressed most of those problems, but still has almost no noticeable marketing support.
The portability of a full console like experience is just a novelty in many cases. Why should people pay simply for the portability of a game that can be done exactly the same on a console they already own? They can stamp out the ports, but it won't address the cause of the issue at all.
Seems like revisionist history that really doesn't fairly describe the truth of the PSP either - yes, your EAs and Ubisofts made some lame attempts to cash in, but that's more a symptom of them not wanting to invest real resources (i.e. it's not like they were going to pay to develop a big time unique PSP IP anyway, the choice was a port or nothing). Plenty of other publishers, particularly the Japanese ones, made lots of unique PSP games. And hey, sometimes the PORTS were good too - the Monster Hunter games were ports and basically single-handedly turned the PSP into a dominant force in Japan.
Anyway, this is especially disheartening to hear since some of the Vita's excellent titles are ports and IT'S NOT AN EITHER/OR PROPOSITION. I'm all for "console quality" games like Gravity Rush and Soul Sacrifice, but I don't want to give up the stellar portable versions of "mere ports" like UMvC3, Disgaea 3, BlazBlue, and Persona 4: The Golden.
Out of all the systems this gen, PSP is the true successor to the PS2. 360 was making great strides to take its throne up until microsoft stopped caring about games and went full blown Skynet: Living Room Edition on us.
the psp had more third party support both port and exclusive than the ps3 did. Id argue even sony support
It just shouldn't stop there, we need a steady stream of both exclusives AND multiplatform titles. You know, just like the 360 and PS3 need to stay viable.
Less ports just means less games. I want more content on my Vita. More exclusives, more ports, more minis, more ps mobile, etc. Less software doesn't make your platform more attractive.
the problem is companies like square and konami who supported the psp with over 10 exclusives wont give the vita the time of day with original content
There's a ton of great exclusive stuff on PSP. I like what they're doing with All Stars Battle Royal and including some of the PSP/Vita exclusive characters even if they are just background characters, except Kat from Gravity Rush. Marketing is all these products need and games obviously.
The games I'm really looking forward to are ports (jet set radio, ratchet full frontal, sly 4, etc) and I wish they would of put doom bfg on it.
Okay, we got Rayman Origins, UMvC3, what else? Can't count Persona 4 Golden, as that has extra content and therefore is not a "straight port". I'm pretty sure the BlazBlu game was not a port but had its own unique story; is that true?
So other than those 2 games, what else? And no, you cannot count games that buying the PS3 version will get you the Vita version for free, or vice-versa.
Oh, there is SFxTekken, so that's three. Oh! And Disgaea 3, so that's four. Are there any others I am missing?
its apple and oranges, the pc does get exclusives
the gtya III ipad port was broken and unplayable. That did nobody favors.
Psp sold extremely well in comparison to all other nintendo handhelds. They should look at everything psp did as a success
And compare it with vita to learn why its failing. They went the opposite direction from psp, removing everything that made it great. Umd, tv out, the ability to use ps3 controllers, a non-proprietary memory card, standard usb port.
Sony needs to buy a clue, and I'm selling.
Also, most of my 3ds games are also ports.
and the biggest thing they didnt copy from the psp was exclusives
the psp basically had 3 gta's FIRST or second on the system.
Will the vita get a gta? let alone anything from rockstar? thats sort of the issue
Lets compare segas psp and vita support
the psp got 2 vakyrias, 2 shining games, 3 miku's , 1 crazy taxi, 1 sakura taisen and more
the vita got 1 miku.........
at launch the psp had an original metal gear, original ape escape, original twisted metal, original darkstalkers, ect
Never seen someone defend the PSP so passionately before.
It definitely had its fair share of exclusives, but a lot of them seemed to be JRPG's or catering to a very specific type of gamer. Personally I only found a few games on it that were worth my time. I pretty much bought one to play the GoW games and sold it later that week.
I already have more Vita games than I enjoyed on the PSP. But I crave more. Hopefully Gravity Rush will get a sequel. It doesn't seem like it's that popular/talked about (And also barely advertised, wtf sony?) But I loved it. So much fun.
I like my PSP. Most of what I owned and downloaded is rooted in a previous game. Most people have a similar experience minus certain exceptions. Please just let it go.
Grasping at straws? Everything Ive said is fact. Just because they arent games from a region you belong in, doesnt mean the games dont exists. Its childish dude
@maniax
Vitanic? thats a pretty good way to describe the situation. Its going to take more than 1 dev to savee it. Its going to take no less than 10 devs making exclusives for an extended period of time
@caramelzappa
Because I am sick of the shit it gets. What gengre doesnt cater to specific type of gamer? that doesnt make sense
Within the first year of the psps life it had exclusive metal gear, exclusive ff, exclusive gta, ect
will the vita get that? doesnt look like it
I assume I am not alone but I havent touched my vita since right after launch. Its been that long
