You have to hand it to Sony, the PlayStation brand holder possesses optimism that verges on insanity. Despite common sense informing us otherwise, Sony has promised, yet again, that the PlayStation Portable is not done yet, stating that "significant" games are coming to reinvigorate the system's unimpressive Western performance.
"This year we are also launching a host of significant PlayStation IPs on the PSP platform," claims Claire Backhouse, who has the unfortunate job of being Sony's PSP UK product manager. "Granted, perhaps there hasn't been the volume of high profile PSP titles we would have liked to have seen on the platform but, that said, we continue to focus heavily on software development.
"The fruits of this you'll see later this year, with the release of a number of currently unannounced, yet significant franchises that will reinvigorate the current user base, as well as attracting a whole new audience."
I will believe it when I see it. I sure hope it's true, but Sony has cried wolf too many times for me to believe that this year, like 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, will be the PSP's big year.
So it's probably a bomb.
It's a linux run system that's in similar size and style to the DS except that it has a keyboard, and I single screen that is a touch screen. It looks amazing.
If Sony came through on their promise of all the great PSX games on PSN, I probably wouldn't have cared. JRPGs have pretty much sucked this generation, and I got one mainly to break out all my old PSX JRPGs in the meantime.
People have alot of nostalgia for FF VII-IX, Silent Hill, Parasite Eve, RE, etc.. Sony could cash in on this, but for some reason, they choose not to.
i guess they have no choice. what are they gonna say. expect to be further dissapointed in the psp in 09.
It's cool to have another handheld on the market that is a success. Leave it alone, chubs.
And from a hardware perspective, I always felt the PSP delivered in terms of features and validated its slightly higher price point while proving a worthy competitor to Nintendo's line of handhelds.
Basically, I think it's a great system and feel that has given us plenty to sink our teeth into and I feel at times that perhaps a lot of us give it maybe a little more flak then it deserves.
Do I feel that Sony no longer knows how to manage and market their IPs? Yes. Do I think they're whittling away at the PSP's true potential by their lack of consistency in the releasing of quality media for the platform? Definately.
Before the PSP came out. I always imagined how awesome it would be to own a handheld that presented graphics and a gameplay experience that resembled a home console (more or less. but on a tinier scale). Now that it's been out for a while I still believe that it still has plenty to offer us. It's a great little system and although I feel many judge it too harshly there's definitely more that can be done to push it along on the developers part.
And seriously, "leave it alone?" Are you going to post crying videos on Youtube next? Fucking baby.
Sony hasn't done anything amazing with the PSP, I agree!
It's sad that the best thing about the PSP is illegal, but that's the same with blow jobs from hookers so they even eachother out......somehow.
You could fit the whole PSP, PSX, SNES, Genesis, NES, etc libraries on that shit!
Sony may not have done anything awesome with the PSP, but the rest of us have. And if I could read Japanese, it would be EVEN BETTER!
Of course I have love for the DS, but it has been taking an extended break. And that Pandora system looks awesome too.
The thing is selling like gangbusters over there and there's already a slew of JRPGs and other quirky yet seemingly awesome games hitting the system in the coming year.
Whether we'll see these games in the US however is an entirely different matter.
What the hell is a "gangbuster" and why do they sell so well?
I guess there are arguments to make for the sporadic game library outside of Japan, but it seems to have done reasonably well despite that, probably because of it's other capabilities...
But turth be told. on Jeanne D'Arc was a sony related release that I liked. everything else I adore on my psp has been courtesy of Square Enix or Banpresto, really.
all the memories we've made together, the long nights spent trying to hack the crap out of you to play the Super Nintendo and then giving up and just buying Patapon.
at least I got that much out of you, thanks for that one Sony.
