Sony to have more games than Mega Man sequels by next March (update) photo

It is often said that good things come to those who wait. Up until this point, if you happened to have purchased a PlayStation 3, you are banking on that phrase. Well, allow me to be the bearer of good news -- something that I think you'll agree that Sony could use a lot more of lately.

During an interview with the Nikkei Business Daily, Kazuo Hirai (Chairman and Group CEO of Sony) let it be known that Sony is well aware of the criticism that the system has too few games in which to woo gamers with. Not only that, but also that Sony is going to counter this with a renewed vigor -- by working with software publishers on all aspects of marketing games. How many of said games, you ask? Expect to see around 200 software titles and 180 download-only titles to be released for the PS3 by next March.

While sooner is always better, picking up steam after being dominated by a much cheaper console with just as few must have titles is always a slow process. Expect to see the PS3 back in competitive form, and ready to duke it out with whoever is leading the pack by March. With Ken Kutaragi gone, and Hirai at the helm -- things are already starting to look a lot brighter for the PS3.

[Update: Well it looks like things aren't as rosy as we initially thought (otherwise known as journalists everywhere jumping the gun). Luckily for us, a SCEA spokesman was quick to set the record straight. Hirai was citing international figures, so the correct number of first-party games announced for 2007 is more down the lines of 15. Personally, I was happier with the original story -- but the truth will set you free. Doesn't mean you'll like it, but it is what it is. Sorry, Sony fans.If it makes you feel any better, I'm bummed out too. I was hoping to cover positive PS3 news for once.]

And what was the deal with Gutsman? He was super strong and could throw things yet whenever it came to his profile and his power they always said "You don't want to know!"

Frickin' A I do! I want to know what I am up againsts! I need to know how to PEW PEW PEW him into submission!

But is M$ trying to tell everyone that they're still the market leader when their console has taken a royal shit? Nope. They're not even haughty about being the current HD console leader. They're just making and licensing good games, not bragging about how they're going to make an unbelievable, absurdly-high number of them.

you know this is bs right here... Jim pass me some popcorn here plz.

"Doesn't change the fact your access to it is limited, crippled if you will. "

How exactly? If I want to go over and see the new firmware, I have to walk a block to do it, but I can see it on Day 1. If I want to play a new title, I can buy it, and my friend is absolutely going to let me come over and check it out, play all the way through it if I want. Having a friend with the console isn't in any way equivalent to playing a crippled demo station at Target. But I guess if part of your standard includes being able to get up in the middle of the night to play a version of tiger woods that doesn't look as good as the 360 version and costs more, then yeah, it's crippled access. You had a bad experience with the 360; that doesn't change the fact that 360 Library > PS3 Library. If you're unhappy with your 360, get rid of it, but for me, again, though now slightly different: Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Crackdown, Guitar Hero II, Forza Motorsport 2 > Resistance

C'mon man, seriously, a shot to the heading in comparison to a movie? At least try...

A SHOT IN THE HEADING? Your covers blown. you're a foreigner. Just kidding I don't care.

And Whats wrong with taking a concept to the extreme to prove a point?

Iceman wasn't tough but his levels annoyed me. It wasn't a matter of going PEW PEW PEW, but I had to time my jumps for the fricking boxes that appeared and reappeared. GAH!!!

But I beat it and eventually got to PEW PEW PEW!!!

@ Susan - I listed my favorites (and forgot Gears of War). Those are five (six) AAA titles. I have played a lot of the other games, many of them are crap. However, that's five more AAA titles than you have for the Sony Blu-RayStation. If you think that my nearly unlimited access to my friend's PS3 (because he doesn't really use it, except to play PS2 games) doesn't count, nothing I can say can convince you. I think you're just upset that I got to make an informed decision before wasting my $600.

What about you? How many PS3 games do you have?

I don't buy crap, and I have a small library of 360 games (I have a small library of games because I don't buy crap. I rent a lot). If I owned a PS3, and didn't buy crap, I'd have Resistance.

I'll let you watch your blu-ray movies in peace as soon as you admit you bought the PS3 as a trophy, not a gaming platform, because anyone in their right mind can tell you which platform you actually get to play games on.

It only took like 2-3 PEWS untill his balls were in a vice.

Yeah, Mega Man 2 is also a classic! There are many paths. I think I generally took your route with Air Man first and then Metal Man.

My favorite Mega Man was the Mega Man X series tho... Something about the gameplay just made it superior to my nostalgic feelings towards the original Mega Man.

I always laughed enjoyably at the face of Elec Man, with that crown for a head!

You can't tell me that looked like a crown!

One of the BEST Mega Man games though...

MEGA MAN SOCCER!

Fricking YES! 20 characters to choose from from Mega Man and Proto Man to the classic characters from Mega Man 1-4!

Here are some sweet images of the character animations in the game.

"I traded in my Scion for a Benz, b/c I could."

replace the word "Benz" with "El Camino", and "could" with "spent 600 bucks on a PS3 so I couldn't make my car payment"

or

replace the phrase, "I could" with "my wife got a raise"

I want to hear you justify owning a Benz.

Owning a Benz is just like owning a PS3: It's a trophy. A status symbol.

I wish "nice things" were all it took for me. I wish that I could appreciate things like the gamelessness of the PS3, or the $500 a month Mercedes Benz payments.

But I can't. I must not know what's good for me, settling for a cheaper console with games and a smaller car payment with much better gas milage.

That's right kids, build that mountain of stuff as high as you can get it. He who dies with the most expensive toys wins.

Whether they're fun or not.

holy mapples.... Howard Stinger just announced 380 games coming up.

"Sony also announced an additional 380 PS3 games (compared to the 100 currently available) set to roll before the end of March, 2008: more than 200 packaged software titles and another 180 or so launching over the Internet. All considered, Sony President Ryoji Chubachi forcasts a $2.7 billion profit at the end of the current fiscal year."

Good to hear. Now show you me your POkemans!

It's cool they've got a lot of games in the pipeline, even if I think it's unlikely they're going to reach it in that time frame. Regardless, $600 is just way too much for me to ever consider paying for a console, no matter how good the games are. I'll look into picking one up when it's around $300.

Just because I make a really good(relatively of course) amount of money doesn't mean I have to act like an elitest prick. Even if I was a billionare, I wouldn't buy a $200.00 shirt. And I sure as hell don't look down on and berate the "have-nots" as you call them. Look, I have no ill will towards you, but c'mon.

The ps3 is turning into the Paris Hilton of video games, it just refuses to have anything positive said about it.
