Sony: There won't be any PS3 Slim shortages photo

There have been fears that the PS3 Slim will be hard to find this holiday season, but Sony remains confident that the black box o' bitesized Blu-ray will be available for all, and nobody will be left wanting. Don't they usually pretend there will be shortages?

"There are trucks and trailers leaving right now -- it’s on the road," boasts SCEE boss Andrew House. "I will make a prediction there -- I don’t think we will be having too many of those [shortage] discussions with retail."

What do you think? Will the PS3 Slim be a sell-out success with Wii-like shortages across the world, or will Sony be able to cover the demand? Amazon is currently limiting PS3 Slim orders to one unit per house, so that's at least one outlet thinking Slims will be thin on the ground.

Who here is actually getting one?

I settled for a fat PS3 yesterday. The deal was too good to pass up. Good for them if there's no shortage.

Even sony don't think their console will sell! do ho ho.

I wonder how long they've been stockpiling to make such a claim.

I don't think I'll have the extra money for an entire new system, but I have to say that a PS3 for $300 sound like a pretty good purchase. Knowing me though, even if I get the money, I'll probably just spend it on more games for the systems I already have.

Still, good move Sony! Decent price and no Wii-style shortages!

I don't think there will be too many shortages since they released it well enough before the holiday season. A lot of people already have a PS3 and there wont be a big rush to get it like when the console originally launched.

Given that this thing has probably been in full production for months I doubt they'll have much of a problem keeping up with demand. The real question is will there be as many on shelves by Christmas as there were when the original unit launched in 2006.

As to buying one, maybe next year if the price comes down a bit more. At $200 I'd be really tempted to replace my 60GB with either an 80 or a Slim just to decrease the noise, which has been very annoying with temperatures as high as they've been this summer.

Oh come now, not even hardcore Playstation fans would of expected a SHORTAGE. Sony, you guys make the PS3 jokes too easy sometimes.

I'm going to bite the backwards bullet and get one. It's not an easy decision for me, being all about mileage and practicality. I still have VHS tapes. I mean, my TV has a built-in VCR and FM radio. I'm gonna be pretty upset if they put out a BC model later down the line, because I'll have to switch to it. (I know they said they never would, but I can't trust companies anymore.)

I just hope I don't regret it and sell it after a year like I did my 360.

I really want to ebay my bc capable 80GB so I can pick one up. However the practical side of my brain is saying, No! and making me resist. I'd really like a different color as well but it's not a deal breaker. I already own a PS3, so the smarter side of my brain is telling me no point in purchasing it again. At least for now, until my inner geek wins out. As it always does. Poor bank account.

Seriously... $300 for a PS3 in no way can be considered "high", and certainly not "too high"

Built in Wifi
120GB HDD
Blu-Ray....

Broke people will always think things are too expensive though, I guess.

Fuck the BC I'll be getting this day one. Besides it's not like I have a PS3 anyways and would be nice to actually have a next gen console. I have a Wii, but it's not really next gen to me.

I pretty sure there won't be any shortages. Remember: We've been looking at pictures of these damn things for MONTHS. Plenty of time for them to manufacture a decent stock. If they're hard to get between now and the holidays it's going to be the retailers controlling the stock to drum up enthusiasm.

I want one, but I need to sell my old one first.

Why, you might ask?

Well, it's inspirational to me. If the PS3 can lose weight, so can I!

That, and I rather like the new matte finish and lower power consumption.
