Personally, I can't find a custom theme I really like, so I've been stuck with default ever since I got my PS3 last fall.

Check out community member Ckarasku's blog (google it)! He's been doing this for a while, and his themes rock.
Awesome! I'll have to look into this - I've been stuck with the default theme as well, could use an upgrade.
I'm surprised that Sony came up with this and hasn't taken it back yet, a la OtherOS, because it seems like suits would hate it, since there isn't a whole lot keeping you from recreating paid themes, or themes using copyrighted materials that might later get paid themes. Totally awesome, though, because I never pay for themes (yay for 360 themes via awards in games), and it always feels like a new console when you re-skin stuff.
I'm personally a fan of the dynamic themes, which i'm assuming you can't make with this.
But if someone makes a nice Dtoid theme please let me have it!!!

Umm, people have been making PS3 themes for quite a while. No dynamic themes though, you have to buy official ones. :(
What I would reeeeeeally want is instructions to make DYNAMIC themes! Custom PS3 static themes are kinda old hat.

Believe it or not this isn't news. I guess they really do get everything late in Europe, even custom theme tutorials.

The only dynamic theme I paid for was the raining on from Heavy Rain. It's wicked. Want sound effects though. I got the zebra one for free from the Japanese PSN--just go to the Japanese PSN Store with your Japanese PSN account and download it. Simple. :)
As already stated this is what we need on the 360. FFS microsoft do somethign worthwhile without charging me an entire mortgage payment for doing so!
Custom themes are pretty old. I made a LP2 one since no one else made one. I think it came out well:
