So ... are you ever going to tell us how many you actually sold, Sony?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Retailers wouldn't request more shipments if they didn't need them.
I mean, what does that include? EyeToys? Nunchucks? Charging stations? Condoms?
At least a Kinect is just a Kinect...
PS - "Move unit" made me think of "Moon Unit", which has just brightened my Friday morning.
It's great for on rail shooters but NOTHING else. I need something new, though I fucking love Bocche Ball and Disc Golf.
Exactly. I don't get why people split hairs about shipped/sold stats for that very reason. Yes, Sony is trying to look better than how they actually are doing, but retailers would not order additional Moves if they did not anticipate selling more. It may take a month or two, but they will end up being "Sold" units soon enough.
But I do find it funny that Sony who once boasted about its sales figures and laughed at their competition are now hush hush. I think it's called Karma?
That's right, I'm arguing semantics on an internet comment board.
Well yeah, but it's a much less meaningful statistic. The NPD tracks sales, and they used to provide all the numbers to the public. That's where Microsoft gets their "we've sold 10 million Kinects!" statistics.
Your logic is solid, but in this industry the numbers are available to Sony and they're choosing not to show them.
Maybe they just shipped 7 million units to Antarctica just to prove their point and have a big number to brag about.
take your waggle elsewhere, Sony.
Time Crisis is worth the price of admission.
The 10 Million Units Sold was actually sold to retailers. Microsoft really meant Shipped. Sony and Microsoft are both trying to feed us the same bullshit.
Unless people are raging over a lack of demand, I hardly count this as noteworthy. Sony should worry about their other matters.
I can't remember the last PR release from Sony that wasn't total bullshit.
Ehh, whatever I guess. I hope PS3 owners are happy with their consoles. I just don't get how they repeatedly get roped in by Sony's BS when you've got to know by now that Sony is completely full of shit.
"....it's much more gratifying to shoot someone in the head when your actually pulling a trigger"
You could buy an xbox, I hear they have triggers on their controllers.

@Pooch77
Kinect however doesn't seem to be moving many console units. It's sold really fast, but - as maybe every add-on - it doesn't seem to have such a lasting appeal. We'll see though whether Microsoft will be able to boost it with new software.
Keep in mind that the technology behind Kinect is not really revolutionary or that impressive, but the fact that it's used to play games is the innovative one. It's probably the first CHEAP motion control system and the first used to play games though.
The new Michael Jackson is kind of in between but Kinect needs something compelling.
You can figure out sales figures by tracking the number of units sold via SKU. Its literally just a matter of making a few phone calls and doing the math.
Clearly you must have understood what I meant. But if not i will clarify. Pulling a trigger on a gun... not a controller.
I could buy an Xbox, and have to compete with lame ass cheaters, i could also rip out all my hair one piece at a time. The latter being more bearable.
Hey don't get me wrong, The Kinect is one great piece of technology, but it is being marketed as gaming equipment, in which case (so far) it has failed (in my humble opinion.)
And yes the PS3 is a wii rip off, a damn good wii rip off with kick ass graphics and much better games.... Works for me.
Wasn't the PS3 and Playstation Network severely hacked recently that allowed thousands of people the ability to cheat in online games? Xbox Live is pretty damn secure...which is one of the reasons I don't mind paying for it.
I wish Project Draco, Steel Betallion and Codename D would come out already so people can STFU about Kinect only having Dance Central.
You are gorrect sir/madame. It was hacked, but as far as i know the problem was patched. And I could be wrong (woudn't be the first time or the last) but I've heard Hacking/cheating is much more rampant on Xbox Consoles.
Er .. Sony sold 8 million Move units. I don't think you said what you meant to say.
Move appears to be selling at a pretty steady pace, which is what Sony said they intended when it was launched. A recent GameStop business report said that they were struggling to meet demand, so sell-through rate seems to be pretty high, which would make the shipped statistic not that far off.
I agree.
The fact that it's apparently easy to use gives a lot of people the chance to do all sorts of creative things that, for which otherwise they either would've had to spend a lot more money, or even would have had to program the software themselves. That's something really good that could/will come out of this.
