We ought to run a feature on Destructoid called "guess what the Sony advert is trying to f*cking say." We could also take bets on which class-A drug was being ingested while said advert was conceived.
Anyway, this latest in a long line of twisted brainwrongs seems to be aimed at women, although what it's trying to tell them is anybody's guess. Sony may be attempting to suggest that inside every fat man is a thin woman. I've tried using a system of mirrors to look down my throat and verify this, but so far the rumors are unconfirmed.
Our very own Niero believes that Sony is saying it's okay for women to play online via PSN because everyone simply assumes you're a fat I.T guy by default. Or perhaps it's not targeting women at all, but telling men that it's okay if they want to wear skimpy vests and pretend to be a woman -- but you must do it in the desert because then it's just between you and the tumbleweed.
I can tell you one thing it's NOT saying though -- "buy a PlayStation 3."

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Everybody is a FAT guy on the internets!?!@>!
The image of gamers is constantly changing and Playstation 3 brings out even the most unexpected gamers.
Just a guess
Either way, Sony is calling us fat. Not cool Sony, not cool. :(
Meanwhile, the majority of people still playing games are unattractive fat men, so it's both trying to LURE skinny attractive women to gaming, as well as pander to Sony's core audience - the fat, unattractive male - by informing them that they are trying to lure aforementioned skinny attractive girls.
Marketing genius.
We Ran Out Of Ideas. Buy Our Console."
If that was an ad from Sony, I'd be sold.
This shit?
The squirrels seriously need to make a comeback.
Inside every really fat, sort of fat, and not-so-fat male gamer is an unhappy female dying to get out?? Maybe? I can't think of anything else that this would mean.
No idea how that sells a PS3, though.
Maybe they're saying "Hey, you're paying attention to us and you don't even realize it."

Those two are possibly the best ads ive ever seen. Even their psp ads make sense... why do they go crazy when it comes to the ps3?
im also an art student so this makes me much more qualified to think about things like this than a lot of you people. you all are beneath me.
im going to go take some mescaline and lay in a field of grass surrounded in paints.
it's Jim from the inside.
LOLLLL you stole my idea :PPPP
I agree the squirrels were awesome, or they could at least get the same company doing their television ads to do the ps3 ads.
I'm now wondering if there's a thin woman inside me...
Maybe trying to capture the cross dressing / transsexual demographic?
It may be abstract and clever but that won't boost their sales when 90% of the people that see the ad will just say "What the fuck?" and forget about it.
While being able to look at something as "abstract" or "different" you must be able to eventually come to a conclusion as to what it is. Obviously the artist created something with an idea in mind and that idea is what's shown, so being able to unlock the "abstract" mind is to be a true art connoisseur. Unfortunately, this is not art. It's an advertisement. While one may argue that advertisements are art, the entire point of an advertisement is to make someone want whatever product is being sold, and in order to do that you must be creative and appealing, but also logical. Anyone can look at that ad and say "Well, what do we have here? I don't see a product, only a strange photograph and a PS3 logo", which really does not sell the product.
Anyway, I've become too serious on this matter.
COCK SHIT BALLS ASS FUCKER TWAT LOLOLOL FAT DUDE LOLOLOL, etc. etc. etc. Also, cocks.
Thin women > fat men
On the outside, the PS3 is fat. On the inside, its hot. Keep it cooled well or the outside may crack open.
YOU ARE FAT
Also, this.
marketing guy 2 "snort, snort, snort"
marketing guy 3 "well, that's all gone, we'd better do some work I guess"
I'm not sure you're entirely right, from an objective standpoint. The point of an advertisement is to, firstly, get a product stuck in someone's mind and, secondly, to make them want to buy it. To the average consumer this would say absolutely nothing about the PS3, apart from the logo in the corner. So it fails on the second count, at least.
Artistically speaking, well, that's entirely subjective. Personally, I don't care for it, because I don't know what the fuck it means.
Gamers are no longer the stereotypical fat guy (no offense to those who are :P) that the public believes. Under the misunderstanding of the general public, the truth is that there are women, (normal looking, attractive whatever) that play games.
The fat guy outer shell is the stereotypical view of gamers. But the inner truth is that that is no longer the the case. Video games are for anyone including women (extra emphasis on women for this ad).
Well that's what I thought right as I saw the ad anyways.
I don't mind ads like these, you may think its a useless ad but it got us discussing the contents of the ad and in someways the PS3.
Ads don't always need to sell the product, they just need to imprint the product into your memory.
Destructoid isn't what I'd call a lot of press. This ad is getting no attention because it's so stupid nobody wants to bother with it.
