Sony PSN Director says all games will eventually have trophies photo

Ever had to choose between a a PS3 and a 360 version of a game, only to find yourself picking the 360 because you want to get achievements? Don't worry, you aren't alone. Sony clearly sees the appeal, having recently announced their addition of trophies in their v2.40 firmware update. For now, they will only be in ten games, although Sony remarked that they could be patched into existing titles.

If you're anything like me, that may have left you thinking that the effort is cool but that not all games will offer trophies, so it may not have won you over. According to Sony PSN Director Eric Lempel, however, the plan is for all games to eventually implement the trophy system, although they didn't want to "force it" on developers to go back to older titles and add them in. Not yet, anyway.

I'm interested to see how quickly trophies will show up -- it seems to me that once a game has come and gone, it's difficult to get gamers to return to it (but of course, there are some exceptions). If both systems offer some type of reward for reaching goals in-game, which console would be your first pick to game on?

It seems to me like the obvious choice would be to go for achievements on the system you well, already have the most on which in a great deal of cases would be the 360.

However, I believe that the 360 will also have the upper hand because it is more established in terms of how long they have had the achievement system running. The developers are more familiar with it now/how many points each achievement should be worth (Excluding EA of course).

WUT?

As of now there is only ONE game supported and that's SuperStardustHD.

Hopefully they will go and patch some older games soon.

This is good news to me, especially as someone who just got a PS3. I just hope trophy support starts popping up soon, and not like 6 months from now.

what I'm curious about is whether or not PS3 owners will get all crazy over trophies in the same way as 360 owners have gotten with achievements. It's easy to use a number for measurement, but with trophies it's not quite the same.

It makes me wonder how much people will care, and this is from 360 owner who doesn't care about achievements.

@naia-the-gamer: Although you don't get a GamerScore, you do get a level and that's even easier for comparisons.

Hasn't this already been confirmed? Either way, sales of Super Stardust HD will double (or triple!) this month.

Seeing that I don't have a 360, I'll still be picking up the PS3 version of games. Once most or all of the future PS3 games offer trophies I definitely think it will be a valid competitor to the achievement system.

I care more about multiplayer than achievements, so i'll stick with the 360 versions of games for that and get assured well done achievements as a bonus.

if it's a ps3 exclusive i'll get it for ps3 (duh).
same goes for x360.
if the graphics & gameplay are about the same i'll get it for x360.
same goes for any cross-platform game with multiplayer.

If everything is equal as far as achievements/trophies I'd buy games based on my controller preference, which for most games would be the 360.
