The PromiseStation 3 is back in full effect, with Sony's David Reeves following the corporate line of stating that things will be great in the far-flung future. Sony has always been about saying, "next year, things will be different." Reeves, to his credit, has decided to say that three to five years is more realistic.
"I don't think it will be next year, but in three to five years it will become dominant on the market," claims Reeves. "The legacy will be that people will see a tortoise and hare situation. In a way, in the end it will be a dead heat. People will say PS3 took a while to get going but it really caught up very quickly and confounded many of the critics from the first year."
I like the PS3 a lot, and it's definitely the only console this year with a selection of games I'm truly looking forward to. That said, I'm really sick of Sony's "tortoise and hare" claims. This is a fast-moving industry, and digging in your heels while smugly saying "wait and see" doesn't change anything, especially as this has been Sony's MO for the past three years already.
As for David Reeves, this may well be the last time we feature a madcap quote from the outspoken European executive, as he'll be retiring to give his jaw a well-earned rest. I'll miss him a lot. He was very much Sony's Aaron Greenberg.

Color me confused. Aren't both comments talking about different things? Reeves is talking about domination in regards to console attach rate and game sales while Sony is talking about improving in the next year.
Also, give it to Reeeves for some lovely last-minute controversy as he's on his way out the door and probably not giving much of a rat's ass about anything console war related.
The point is, Sony is constantly promising things will happen in the future.
Also, I will miss Reeves.
The Wii and the 360 went firing out the gates and everyone assumed the PS3's slow method wouldn't produce results, Now both those systems are facing more than a few issues and the PS3 is the only console with no visible problems on the horizon( they just gotta work out the pricing and its pretty much all gravy for them here on out).
That being said however I would like for sony to throw it into 3rd gear already.
Colour me confused. So, Reeves is talking about console attach rate and game sales, then what the hell is Sony talking about? I'd have thought they were on the same page. Maybe its you who really is confused.
My mind is blown.
Did you pull that one out of your arse?
I'm sure Microsoft and Xbox would love to have Nintendo's problems.
Oh, and here's a visible problem for the Playstation3: It has the smallest share of gamers of the three (wii/360/PS3). That's not something Sony will like. Also, this stupid war between PS3reaks and Xbots has pretty much ensured that a sizeable chunk of either will never buy the rival machine, which as things stand is in Microsoft's favour, not Sony's.
You missed the point(and how many people buy it is irrelevant to the people who already own the system, that's sonys problem, I couldn't care less). Also if one system starts getting alot better than the other I doubt people are gonna deny themselves fun and joy just cause they already have the other system, having ps2 didn't stop me from getting an xbox, nor did having a 360 stop me from getting a PS3, because that's how a logical person thinks.
And no the only real complaint anyone can have with them is price (I doubt anyone but us listens to sonys PR, your average person isn't intrested in this stuff, they just want a price cut), but I could produce a list of issues for the Wii and the 360 that has happend or is about to happen, simply because things weren't as thought out as they should have been (something that matters to me as I own all 3 consoles).
Every method is different, sony just choose to take the majoruty of their lumps and bruises early, that's why there no problems on the horizon right now.
And for the record I choose to use the 360 and Wii as exaples because there relevant to the times, I've could have easily sub in 360 with let's say the sega saturn ( it sufferd a few similar problems) but that would not have been as relevant, and even though I used them as examples I assumed nobody would take it out of context and see the statement for what its worth, but it seems I gave someone like you too much credit.I'll remember to simplify my statements for you next time so you may have a chance understanding the point and actually contributing to the conversation.
But from what they're saying, the intend to keep it around for a while, which is a good thing. Hopefully sony realize that shooting for the moon is all well and good, but developing a reasonably priced and reasonably capable console is better for your profit margins. Sony needs to learn that price is going to be THE major determinate of console sales in the future. If your poor and your job looks a bit shakey in these times, then you're going to buy the cheaper console over the more expensive console, ESPECIALLY if the more expensive console has less exclusive games.
Clearly it is only the PS3 owners with insecurity issues o_O
Seriously though, if you think my ramblings sound like they are born of insecurity, fair enough, but I assure you they're not. I refer to PS3sers desperation for the PS3 to have this or that in order to establish the PS3 as the best machine - something which it obviously hasn't done yet, hence the explanation for comments such as "I hope MAG is the bomb, the PS3 needs this" or the whole furore over KZ2 reviews. Tell me that wasn't the most ridiculous example of PS3sers getting in a tizz because for KZ2 to not get perfect scores would "harm the playstation"
I'll admit I get frothy at the mouth when something riles me, and yeah I'll talk shit occasionally too, but insecure I am not...
Yeah the KZ2 review fiasco was hilarious...in a totally embarrassing way. I don't even know what the thought process was behind a lot of those people but it did get people talking on a range of topics. And I'm honestly fine with were Sony is now. Sure they need to drop the price but the current library and future titles are solid. There is just a general good feeling surrounding the company with what is to come. Or that's what I see anyways.
The turtoise and the Hare analogy is a very good one, because yes, Wii and 360 started off well, but now you have in the Wii a system that doesn't provide much profit for third party releases, and you have a 360 that's starting to look dated. In the next 5 years, PS3 will begin to appeal to the masses, because it'll be in a much lower (masses) price range. (200-300 dollars) also both the wii and 360 may need to update their consoles within that time frame. so the ps3 may be the cheapest and best console on the market within the next 5 years..
