wiiu can absolutely do things that ps3 and vita CANNOT do. that is to use the screen controller and tv configuration AS STANDARD on ALL GAMES. because the configuration is standard to all customers.
not everyone who has a vita has a ps3 and vice versa.
they absolutely cannot approach their games with the mindset of developing for the combination of handheld screen and TV.
zombiiU for ps3 and vita would be a colossal failure because of the amount of people who actually have both consoles. it's just not economically viable.
Sorry folks I don't think Nintendo plan for asymmetric game play will thrill most people. I do not see it catching on for many games. Just as Wii Sports & Wii Carnival was the best use of the Wii-Mote, I think Nintendo has about three games it can make that will even be fun asymmetrical. Probably the best use of a second screen would be for a map, inventrory and secondary view in a games.
Sony’s best play would be to just open up that sort of use for everything. Just make a set of software tools that allows developers to move video, audio, control and other data quickly between the console and another screened computing devices. You put the Sony App on your device and BINGO its acts as the second screen and second controls in a certain pre-defined and standardized ways. That means ALL game do it the same way and all just do a few thing that they can do well. It’s simple but it allows nearly any screened device to work with any games that used that set of middleware.
The best part is Sony can just give the App away. They don’t need make a cent on it. In addition, all it does is allow the PS3/4 to communicate with a screened device and the device to commutate back. If Apple, Microsoft, Samsung, or Nokia try to block them Sony just brings out in court that THOUSANDS of Apps do the same thing and are sold or give away on iStore, Google Play and other online stores every day. Legally to block Sony from their phones Microsoft, Google and Apple would have to not allow their devices to work as intended or have any apps that control other devices.
And, yeah...that means Microsoft can do the same thing for teh XB720. And, yeah it means Nintendo could just backtrack and allow for Wii U to to the same thing except its cheaper for them. And yeah it would work for PCs...it would conceptually work between two smartphones or two tablets.
That how this should works! That's how this should be treated buy the tech industry. When the joypad was invented we didn't need people sueing each other. The joypad was OBVIOUS and helpful for all. The same should go for this tech...two devices that have inputs and outputs that when used together make gaming better.
This is better because you could buy an $80 device to do it or you could use you $300 latest-n-greatest tablet, or you could use the smartphone you have in your pocket. Win-Win-Win. And since it is cheap and just there it can just be used if games would benefit or not used because the barrier to entry is tiny. No pressure because nobody need to buy or sell anything all that complicated and most people have the thing already.
I knew I read a similar statement before.
That being said, I'm not really interested in buying a Vita right now either.
All in all, with the size of my backlog and PS Plus, I think I'll be good for the next 4-5 years with just PS3.
Suck it, consumers.
Funny, I'm skipping the NextBox for nearly the same reason applied to my 360. Except my issues also stem from consistent system failure and paying money for shit I get for free on my PS3 and my Wii.
Smartglass was an embarassing announcement to begin with.
"Smartglass makes the shows you watch more interactive by telling you to look away from the screen."
