Yesterday was a day of win for Sony, with news that the PS3 Slim had sold like crazy in both Japan and the UK. Sony has commented on the good fortune, revealing it's "extremely pleased" with the reception and noting that expectations have been exceeded.
"The first week's Chart-Track numbers for sales of the new PS3 were ahead of our expectations, so we were extremely pleased," states SCEE's Mike Howser. "A new price point and a new machine has proven a significant catalyst to help consumers make the move onto PS3. Our new advertising campaign, 'The Game Is Just The Start', is also demystifying the value proposition."
Howsen is also hoping that big exclusives like Uncharted 2, EyePet and Heavy Rain will keep the PS3's momentum going over the next few months.
It looks like Sony's fortunes are starting to turn in a big way, and if the PS3 can keep up its current performance, this holidy season may be a victorious one for the Black Box o' Blu-ray. After three years of promising, we might just get a "year of the PS3" after all.

On the other hand, I really love it that Sony is picking up steam. I only despise Microsoft for red ringing on me. Living in Brazil made my warranty void, and it was a videogame-related experience that was both novel and traumatizing. Screw them.

I looked at my PS3 game collection last night and thought "oh for fuck sake, they've all got that fucking spiderman font on them"
Dammit.
I think they expected Spiderman to breed something that didn't use their font for their new system.
As for sony selling more consoles due to a price cut - well DUH. Price goes down, sales will go up. It's not rocket science. The only startling thing is that they didn't cut the price sooner.

It's funny you say that as I always thought Jim was the Sony guy since I first joined. I remember laughing by the irony of the fanboys from other sites having an outrage against him.
Last time I checked asexual reproduction and cloning were not on that list.
