Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

The PlayStation Blog lays out some of the features we can expect to see in the upcoming version 2.00 system update that is coming this week, and the above video from Games Radar does a pretty good job of showing some of those features off. We know you're bummed about the missing in-game XMB capability for this update, but there are other neat features to play with for now.

One of the most notable new features is the Remote Play capability, which will enable users to turn on their PS3 and use its files via the internet, through their PSP. Users will be able to access their videos, music, and pictures, and will even be able to switch off the PS3 remotely when they're done.

Among other updates is a new themes feature, which lets users easily change the look of the XMB, backgrounds, icons, and even sounds. Themes will be made available on the PlayStation Store and PlayStation.com.

Finally, Sony has added a feature called the Information Board. This is basically a news ticker that will scroll headlines in the upper right-hand corner of the screen when enabled. News and updates will be broadcasted through this feature, and they can be clicked through to read more details on the headline.

It's not exactly what we had hoped for, but at least we know that they're working on it.

Not really enough material for a full point release IMO, but like you said... at least they're working on it.

Kotaku put out a story a week or so ago about a rumor regarding the content of the v2.00 update, and that rumor turned to be true. I’ve already put my opinion in my blog, but here it is one more time: like bhive01, I don’t think this includes nearly enough content to be called v2.00. I think they should’ve named this some intermediate number, like “v1.97” or something, and called the future version with in-game XMB v2.00. I mean, the XMB skins are kinda cool, but I’m assuming it’s just one more thing we’ll have to pay for, and I don’t care enough to pay $1 or whatever they’ll charge for different icons on my XMB. I don’t have a PSP, so that part of the update is worthless to me. The playlists are very cool, to be sure, but I just wish that there was something more substantive in this update. Don’t get me wrong, I love my PS3...I just want to see them improve upon it.

I'm still waiting impatiently waitng for the in-game XMB option. If i can't play back in black on repeat while playing warhawk for 6 hours, then I'm still dissapointed.

But the news ticker and the new theme options sound cool. Are the themes gonna cost money or something?

They need to fix it so that the PSP Slims will fill up the TV when they output their image.

Yeah....when does "home" come out? I want to dress up my guy like the two dudes from Right Said Fred. Yep, no shirt and tight black jeans with boots! This 2.00 update is pretty disappointing.

@LarkOhiya: you could always get a PSP.

This looks cool. As long as your frinds list and messaging is available in-game like it is in resitance, warhawk and other first party titles, then in-gmae XMB is useless to me. Give me more codecs and better DLNA support and i'm happy.
