No shit! Sometimes I'll boot up my PS3, and have to install a firmware update AND install the game I just bought, after I delete some other installed games to make space. It's pretty damn terrible.
WTF Sony?
Note - not we WILL, but WE'D LIKE TO.
WE'D LIKE TO have HOVERBOARDS!
HOVERBOARDS!
I'd like to have all of this:
It sucks that they finally made those shoes and they cost as much as a used car.
I hear they are looking into it. If people are paying 2k for the shoes - they'll pay 100k for a HOVERBOARD.
HOVERBOARD!
(By Sony)
In general though, the PS3 takes FOREVER to update not only the system, but games as well. Why is it that a game update will take me 3 seconds on Xbox, but 3 minutes on PS3? I suppose that's the price of free online, but it does majorly cut into my game time.
@The article - Well, this is Sony after all. Loved the PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 but let's be honest: weren't load times always annoying as hell? Not saying that excuses them; it doesn't but... I'm not surprised. *sigh*
Better to be an asshole who complains about everything than an ineffectual wet blanket who complains about nothing.
Letting the "little things" slide allows companies to amass a big-thing's worth of tiny grievances.
For me ,this is promising since it's coming from Yoshida himself.
Think of it,
-They were aware from PSP fans, the most wanted feature is second analog nub, and the address it on the vita with dual sticks not nubs. nor attachment.
-They were aware of developers complaining of PS3 devkits and how it's hard to develop for, and the address it with Vita with easy to develop for and more affordable devkits.
-They were aware of PS3 inability to perform multitasking and cross game chat, and they did address it on vita with Party chat.
-They were aware of people complaining about the browser experience in PS3 and PSP, and they did address it on vita with webkit based browser.
-They were aware of the problems with PS3 launch, price and small launch title, and they did address it on vita with reasonable price for starter and large selection of title at launch (26 title at japan launch).
- The only thing they missed is the battery life, which is more about bottleneck in technology for every device nowdays.
I don't even have a PS3 and I know how shitty those updates are (of which they did in fact have one a couple weeks ago), because my roomate does and I have to hear him bitch about it everytime he boots that damn thing up.
*drumroll*
Use your PS3 often. It's a bit of a horrible and unfortunate positive feedback loop which has led people to fear their PS3s because of the inevitable firmware update(s) to be installed. Except, rather obviously, those who turn their systems on daily are gifted the opportunity to install the updates at more convenient times. Moreover, the updates will be smaller because they won't pile up. Generally it takes me no more than 10 minutes to download and install any firmware update. If you fight back and learn to love your PS3, it will return the favour by making updates less painful.
Now, don't get me wrong; I'm not giving Sony a free pass to frustrate us. But a lot of the time it seems as though people spend more time complaining about things than putting in the small amount of effort it would take to mitigate those complaints.
THANK you. I love how almost every r-tard who is saying it isn't a big deal are the ones who are PAYING MONEY for this feature.
But don't worry guys, if u keep on forking over money for shit we used to and should get for free, then I'm sure we will continue to enjoy many more years of overpriced map packs, paying to update your system, or paying for an online infrastructure where sometimes you are connecting host to host and not even an actual server.
Have fun getting wallet raped, suckers.
amtalx pretty much answered your question, I have no idea why Sony didn't go this route like Microsoft did for Xbox360.
Hopefully it will be a patching system on Vita , cause I don't think it will be download/installer process on the background like "Narishma" said. Cause even so, it will prevent you from launching a game on the process for security reasons.
Also, what tekbunny said.
That's exactly why I want to slap every person who buys a $15 map pack or grabs day-one DLC. When bullshit becomes profitable, we can only expect to get more bullshit.
Yes, Windows made me ok with this method.
Just saying. Otherwise, totally agree about the updates themselves sucking. Also, the size of them is absurd.
If it wasn't for Sony the PS3 would probably be secure to this date simply because of apathy.
The chance of getting RROD is 33% , Ylod is 2% and the chance of bricking a PS3 because of a firmware update is... IDK because only an idiot bricks their PS3 because of an update. I bet you're one of them.
