Plus It's a 3 day Holiday weekend with nice weather, so I knew I wouldn't be home during the day,and way too shitfaced at night to play games anyway LOL
It would be nice to see them finally implement the new Cross Platform WebKit Web Browser during this downtime though...
It's worth a shot. Maybe we'll get a copy of Sonic I. >_<
Of course I'm really tired of that being the defacto conclusion to any and all arguments "They don't owe you anything you self entitled whiners its (free/optional), STFU". Seriously if that is your only argument .... you understand nothing and you lose.
Nothing is "free" especially when its coming from a company. You can be assured that behind that skin deep crocodile smile, that everything about that "free" whatever has been calculated out to give them the maximum ROI (return on investment). It might not be immediately obvious but you are paying for those features one way or the other.
Does Sony want to avoid people moving to competitors because of the outage ..... short answer YES.
What is the easiest and cheapest way to do that? .... Nominal Compensation (here have a free classic PSX game on us, of ~x value or less, or the likes). Its called a gesture of good faith, one might also call it a loss leader. Yeah they are going to lose some additional capital but the good faith it generates will likely off set any complaints about their unplanned/extended network outage. In the long run it puts them in a position to not only look good but to make far more in revenues than the paltry gesture itself cost them.
In the end it all boils down to damage control and what will be the best ROI.
It's the Defacto conclusion because it's correct. You may feel entitled to compensation but if you read your ToS (again) you will see that Sony reserves the right to remove/shut down psn at any time for any length of time.
Legally, anyone asking for compensation doesn't have a leg to stand on. You can try to suggest that the online fee is paid for by other means but that doesn't change the fact that ps3 owners are owed nothing.
Also. Cry more.
I agree with comments that this isn't the end of the world, but this is the first time I have experienced 4 days downtime in any form of networking gaming or internet access since I started playing online in 96.
While I appreciate that it takes man hours to resolve any problem I do wish the updates were more frequent.
Yes it's a free service, but what about the services that are on this FREE service that we pay for...like Netflix, etc.
I trust Sony will fix the problem and invest in infrastructure so this wont happen again, I just hope everyones personal info wasn't compromised!
You know how PS+ subcscribers get free games for the duration of their subscription? This works by having a license issued, which expires when the PS+ subscription runs out. In some cases, you must start up the game after you have renewed your subscription, whilst connected to PSN, in order to be issued a new licenses and be able to play the game. My subscription renewed at the start of April. Any PS+ games I downloaded before then, and have not started up since then, do not work. Which, from the bottom of my XMB, is as follows:
Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus (PSOne Classics)
Dracula - Undead Awakening (Minis)
Syphon Filter (PSOne Classics)
Cuboid
Kula World (PSOne Classics)
Samurai Shodown (Neogeo Station)
Shatter
Lead and Gold
Magician Lord (Neogeo Station)
Sonic the Hedgehog
Critter Crunch, Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse Episodes 1-5, Wipeout HD, Flying Hamster (Minis) and Stacking all seem to have unlimited licenses and I can play them without a problem.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, ZEN Pinball, Astro Tripper, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Prince of Persia Classic, Red Faction: Battlegrounds and Pain were all obtained after my last subscription renewal, or I played them after renewing so they have had their licenses renewed and are current. Hypothetically, if PSN stayed down for another two months, I would be locked out of all of these.
So that is 10 games I am locked out of (and another seven I can still access by virtue of having a current license). I don't download even half the Minis and PSOne Classics that get put up on PS+, only the ones I intend to play. Someone who downloads them all would probably have two to three times as many games, they could potentially be locked out of over 30 titles when you take into account all those Minis.
I have subscribed since launch on 29 June last year at £11.99 for 90 days, so that means I have paid £47.96 ($79). I know I should be raging, but instead I find my self a mix of uncomfortable about the license system, and smug that I have gotten so much for so litte. Hell, at one point Kula World was commanding Radiant Silvergun-esque prices on ebay, in fact there is a physical copy on there now with buy it now for £175 ($289).
Just some fuel for the 'Should PS+ subcribers get some recompense?' fire.
Been eyeing a new couch, myself.
Even in this comparison, I would direct my anmoyance at the appetizer thief and not at the restaurant.
"Sony isn't just protecting their interests but ours and the developers as well"
"Look at all the loses sony is taking by shutting down their network..."
So what your saying is we should be sympathetic that this service is down because Sony and game devs are losing our money.
Sure. Because I'm that desperate to make them richer I can't stand not being able to throw more money at them.
The only people I feel sorry for are the good, honest people who can't play a little team deathmatch over a long weekend. Sony were unprepared andnbow the user base pays so Sony gets no sympathy from me.
Aww you huwrteb mai feewings *cry's more*
Anyone who has ever read a EULA or a TOS knows that they all read about the same
"Thank you for your money, please accept this NOTHING in return."
I do rather recall saying that they did not owe anyone anything but that won't stop them from running calculated damage control. Not that one should mistake damage control for benevolence.
You have also somehow mistaken me with someone with an immediate vested interest in how they handle the situation from a customer service standpoint. Strange thing that customer service according to the EULA/TOS it doesn't exist. While it will probably in the long run influence when, where and if I choose to do business with Sony in the future.
What I am tired of is all the people who cower like beaten dogs, enjoy your status quo you earned it :)
On Need For Speed : Hot Pursuit. I have quit the reputation Online.
^ (( PPL that constantly Play Online soooo much that we all know eachother.
Our own little niche' community. That's what makes the game so dope. ))
I thought maybe SONY would make like Jesus this Easter Holiday Weekend.
& rise from the grave within a couple of days. BTW I am a Christian.
Also, Netflix, Hulu+ and everything else that ISN'T exclusively used on the PS3 shouldn't really count. Just because hackers got to the PSN doesn't mean every owner on Earth should get free stuff, in my opinion.

And seriously ppl, see if what you wanna do works before you just assume that it doesn't and head to the internet to bitch. You can't play online games or access the Play Station Store or the Steam Cloud, pretty much everything else works.
Stuff happens folks. Play something else. You can still play most single player games. Take a walk outside. Watch hulu tomorrow (or whenever it comes back.)
