When people feel dedication to a cause, they often display unusual courage, tenacity and the determination to stand against anything they believe is adverse to it. In some situations such allegiance is inspirational, often drawing the support of millions (They blew our sh*t up; stick an American flag on your car!!!). In the case of Sony Protection Group, I'm not sure it's quite the same type of scenario, although you can't deny this bunch has courage in some form.
I didn't quite understand what I was seeing at first, so I referred to the handy "Frequesntly Asked Questions" section located at the top of the page. Hit the jump for a sample of what SPG is all about.
[Thanks Gameboi!]
From the site:
"What is the Sony Protection Group?
The Sony Protection Group is a group of Sony fans, who support Sony and the Playstation 3 and are against the Wii60 movement.
Check out the about us page for more information About Us
Who founded the Sony Protection Group?
The Sony Protection Group was founded by a guy named “Narutoboy”. He was an active member on the official Playstation message board.
SonyProtectionGroup.com
Our main site consists of a blog, which is used for spreading factual information, not lies, fud, or rumors spread by other various websites such as kotaku and wii60.com. We also give the users here the ability to share their content, by allowing them to upload videos and pictures that they've made. The forum is the next piece of the website and probably the best part, because it allows all members to come together, share thoughts, and communicate.
How remarkable. I would be interested to hear some topic discussion on matters such as Sony's highly accessible marketing campaign, reasonable pricing on their new system to include gamers of all kinds, and the inclusion of sure fire hit technology Blu-Ray. Now, before all the Sony haters head out to my house to torch my rosegarden, let me clarify something: The PS2 is one of my favorite systems of all time. I'm not happy to see Sony where they are. If someone could explain any of the above to me in a reasonable way that I could get behind, then I would happily listen. The only fatal flaw here is, most Sony fans don't want to tell you, they want to carve it into your back with the stabby end of a compass.
I like to see people gather together to support causes, but Sony's in trouble and I think even some of their most fervent fanboys know it. Losing exclusivity is a nail in a console's coffin, depending on the titles lost. When Square-Enix says they are considering opening up to other consoles, it rips the possibility away of millions of potential buyers who would have ponied up the greens just to play the next installment of Final Fantasy. It's difficult to see a company I have followed so closely in this position. It must be kind of like walking in on your mom getting raped in the kitchen.
Bottom line for SPG? It is difficult to defend a crumbling empire. Regardless, there are always millions of people willing to do it. You guys can sit in the forums and talk about how Sony rules until you're blue in the face and it won't change the situation. If you want to do something proactive, use the list below to contact Sony to ask that they drop the PS3 price. Maybe it won't help, but maybe it will. It seems like the only way to save Sony now may be up to us anyway. If they decide to listen in the final rounds, there might be hope that everyone could enjoy their consoles again sometime in the future.

Who cares, and what's the signifigance of being blatantly biased?
We all have little flourishes of fanboy now and then, it'd be a lie to deny it, but when you go in this deep, you need to seriously re-assess your miserable, pathetic life. Why do so many Sony fans feel so ... threatened? And this kind of activity, and the illogical attacks they mount against other console owners, is indicative of feeling threatened. What kind of Earth shattering torment is going to befall them if Sony don't "win"?
Honestly, some people need to seriously figure out where their existences are heading.
And Magesx: It's really NOT different at all. Anybody who goes that far is a mothercunt.
You can criticise a company. Heck, I have strong criticisms for all three. But when it's blind, rampant hatred and vitriol over games machines, that's when it gets pathetic.
Seriously im waiting to see this as another on of these viral adverts Sony are attempting to be 'down with the kids' with...
This kind of insane bias just fuels this retarded "My console can do no wrong" fanboy mentality.
True fans are prepared to flame their beloved console if there's mistakes and hope that the owners will fix the issues...Establishing groups like this will only polish Sony's already huge ego.
Oh and dont be suprised if the founding member of this is called p_Harrisons or some shit :P
BAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA
So does he own a Naruto fansite and a PS3 one now? I bet his mother is so proud of him when she looks down at him from the top of the basement stairs.
@ mxyzplk
that gears to ps3 was possible the most retarded rumor i had ever seen. Who would even think a Microsoft published game would go to another console? Retards.
The PS3 has sold about as many consoles in America as the Xbox 360 did within its first 7 months. That the Xbox 360 sells more within the same month now can be attributible to the 360 having a head start and thus more games at the moment. But considering that the PS3 is going through the same game drought that the 360 did over its first year, and is facing two next-gen rivals at the same time, it's doing pretty good actually, especially given its high price tag. I find it hard to argue that the console is too expensive when the cheaper model was discontinued due to consumer and retailer disinterest.
Exclusive games for the PS3 are on the way, and I think games like Folklore, Lair, Heavenly Sword, and others will prove to help Sony this holiday season.
A: Jim Sterling is merely a disguise for his true identity, Lord Mothercunt.
Apparently, you've never walked in on your mom getting raped in the kitchen, it's considerably worse.
It's like picking a favorite crack dealer that's been slingin' you shit lately, and refusing to buy from the other crack dealers (who have perfectly acceptable product) across the street.
Wait, what was I talking about? Where am I?! Man I'm jonesin'...
ps. "Narutoboy"? I'm pretty sure I've raped that guy on Resistance a few times.
I write blog entries at SPG and wanted to address a few of the errors made here.
1. SPG is as much associated with Sony as Destructoid is
2. SPG was NOT responsible for the Gears story, it is particularly this kind of rampant FUD that SPG tries to clear up. You'll notice that this story was NOT picked up by SPG in our blog because it was so obviously ridiculous.
3. SPG was only started a few months ago and is still seeking its groove. Spelling mistakes and grammatical errors abound and internally many of the new writers are making changes to establish a more polished and professional image. I'm sure if we look hard enough we could find spelling and grammatical mistakes on every site out there.
4. As a matter of fact the design of the site IS still in flux (there is a new design already up and running for testing purposes) and the graphics actually DONT include Solid Snake.
5. I consider fanboys those that defend their choice of console by spamming other sites, spreading falsehoods and generally making websites unpleasant with their aggressive, illogical behaviour. As a matter of fact we have had to shut down our comments section and halt new membership because of co-ordinated attacks by fanboys.
I joined SPG because it was new and didn't seem to be full of the vitriol we find on so many gaming sites today. I actually 'discovered' it as a story they had done was picked up by PSP/PS3 Fanboy. Internally the new writers (there are 4 new ones in the last 2 weeks) are working to ensure we are a positive source of information for Sony fans.
I think alot of the posts in this thread are taking offence to the name (which I may add is also up for discussion internally) instead of just looking at the blog entries. You'll see that the vast majority of them are simple news pieces or perhaps info to clarify things for Sony owners and fans...they are not flamebait (or certainly not intended to be).
NarutoBoy:
We mainly report positive news and do spread what we feel is the truth on certain matters.
That's called a biased news source or as it's better know, fanboy news.
NarutoBoy on the [b]"Never bash or insult Sony" (real rule!).
Yes, that is a rule, but that isn't to say members aren't allow to express concerns or displeasures at certain actions by Sony.
Right...
Not flamebait huh? How about the article entitled "Xbox 360 has a better GPU, right? Wrong.". That article and the accompanying video are clearely flamebait and nothing more. I wanted to repond to that one in a serious manner and pose the question, "If the PS3's GPU is so much stronger, why is it then that most multiplatform games run slower and choppier on PS3 than they do on 360?". Explain that one to me, hmm?
But I really don't understand why anyone would have affection for Sony as a company. Sure, are financially responsible for a few good games. Their consoles have been generally underpowered, but affordable. They gave us a free DVD player in the PS2 when we all really wanted one. There is nothing about them I don't like.
Regardless of all that, it's the third parties that have put Sony where they are/were. Sony has churned out maybe 8 great 1st party games in as many years. Maybe not even that many. Compare that to Sqaure-Enix, Capcom, Tecmo, Namco, LucasArts, and (gasp) Nintendo, and Sony comes up pretty short. Sony has been prompted up by second and third parties for it's entire career in the gaming world. Why would I care about them?
I really liked Parappa the Rapper, Loco Roco, God of War, and Shadow of the Colossus. But those games were made by guys who were hired by Sony, not Sony themselves (if that makes any sense). I have great affection and admiration for the companies that made those games, but not Sony.
Sony is just a pimp. They pimped out Parrapa to me. I love making out with Parrapa, but why would I love his pimp? Why would I want to make out with his pimp? In fact, if his pimp was dead, maybe that would be a good thing. Maybe then Parrapa would do me more often for less money.
That's not Solid Snake? I'll just assume I made the mistake since I'm not a huge MGS fan...
Perhaps I wasn't clear:
What I said was:
4. As a matter of fact the design of the site IS still in flux (there is a new design already up and running for testing purposes) and the graphics actually DONT include Solid Snake.
What I MEAN is that there is a new design already up and running that isn't being seen by users yet. That new design doesn't include Solid Snake.
Sorry if I didn't make myself clear.
As for the Xbox 360 better GPU post...I'm not technically savvy enough to have an opinion other than to recall that game developers have already said designing for X360 and porting to PS3 is much more difficult (and thus problematic as it relates to development costs etc) than going in the other direction. The games that you say are 'choppy' I beleive, would be ones where the 360 was the lead development console and the developer didn't put the cash and or time into optimizing the game for the PS3. That sucks for PS3 owners but isn't a function of the GPU so much as a function of economic in my opinion.
Did you scan the other 14 stories on the front page that had nothing to do with other systems?

The reason it's easier to go from the PS3 to the 360 is because of the way the Cell processor handles things. One half is dedicated solely to threaded events and the other isn't (meaning you can only use half of its power at any time just so you know) and that makes it very difficult to program for. It requires a large amount of planning and forethought. If you're starting with 360 code you have to redo a lot of your code in order to use the Cell efficiently. Going from the PS3 to the 360 is easier because it doesn't require that extra step of planning and doesn't require the split resources.
And don't get me wrong, the Cell is a nice thing, but it's also severally limiting in that you can never use more than half of its power on any given task.
Seriously, no corporation is worth that kind of emotional investment. They sure don't give a damn about you.
Jim, why do you insist in concealing your identity from us?
Well, what did you expected from a Naruto fanboy? Yes, definitely a fanboy can only come with such a dumb nick.
And totally with Tron in this. However, wasn't Shadow of the Colossus made by a subdivision of Sony VG department, Tron?
"It was then I realized, that being a fanboy is no fun, because being a fanboy does not make you more friends, it loses them, just like my dear friend Justin who I never heard from again.
And Justin, if you are out there reading this, I am sorry."
I hate any and all fanboys so I enjoyed reading that.
But the fact that this web site is named the Sony Protection Group is pretty funny. The name itself is kinda like a wife protecting her abusive husband.
all i can say is... im a Dtoid fanboy! buahahhaa so I can bash all systems with no remorse!!!
on the real, i wonder if they would like this video?
The "Wii60" movement? Genius.
