Sony PR head quits, gets back to vodka photo

SCEA's senior director of corporate communications Dave Karraker is calling it quits and packing his things for his last day, September 7th.

Karraker is "clearing his desk" only one year after taking the job. One year might not sound like a lot of time, but remember that he had to brave through one hellacious year last year with the PS3, so you almost can't blame the guy. You could say that it was almost enough to drive one to drink.

He assures us that this is not the reason, saying that he'd rather be closer to home and back to an industry he's more familiar with. He came to SCEA from Allied Domecq Spirits and Wine, heading up PR for several booze brands. After he leaves Sony, he'll be hitting the sauce again, this time as the head of PR and events for Skyy Spirit. Cheers.

“It has been a wild ride and an incredibly enriching experience," said Karraker. "I have enjoyed immensely my tenure at SCEA and think the company and its brands are very well positioned to have an exceptional holiday and a very bright future.  I look forward to continuing to follow this industry as a gamer, rather than a spokesperson.”

Alright, who's next?

Is skyy any good?
The only stuff I ever had much to drink was Smirnoff, a bit of Grey Goose, and some cheap 3 GBP stuff, which tasted like bum.

Skyy is good, but expensive. I guess the poor guy got so disenchanted trying to tell people the PS3's are worth it that he had to turn to drinking. Lulz.

Skyy's not bad for a cheap vodka. It's no grey goose, or belvidere. But they're all better than PS3, that shit BURNS!

It's a tough time to be a PR person for Sony. It's getting better, but still tough.

I don't think the guy did a bad job. Sony sold far more systems than they should have considering the high price and weak library.

Head of PR for Sony Job Description:

Try to keep tabs on Krazy Ken and Kaz, as well as all the rest of the fuckwits that decide to speak in public and damage the image of their product and brand.

Little wonder the guy is leaving.

I rather liked Skyy. I don't drink often, but when I do that's usually one of the things I'll grab. Shame I can hardly ever find the damn stuff.

Skyy is damn good.

But being a Sony fanboy, this guy has been the director of corporate communications of a company that never ran what they said past this guy. And if they did run it past him before hand, or he was in charge of their speaking points, he needed to be fired, not resign. He'll probably walk away with a huge severance package anyways.

Isn't going back to alcohol always the logical solution?

Free alcohol or free games? I'll take the alcohol.

I'd think being a Sony Corp. PR head/employee would make ANYONE resort to vodka. At least when it comes to the PS3.

Sky is ok. I'm more into potato vodka than the grain vodka. Some pretty good inexpensive US brands out there.
