Sony has pinned some high hopes on PlayStation Move, but the PS3 platform holder isn't expecting massive day-one success. It's marketing campaign actually begins after the peripheral's launch, and the publisher believes it'll have sales that last, rather than sales that explode.
"It is about creating that massive event spike during the launch week, pushing it out to new audiences and continuing on last year's 'The Game Is Just The Start' campaign," says Sony UK marketing manager Adam Boita. "Pre-orders are always important, but Move is not necessarily a pre-order product. It's not like Halo or World of Warcraft expansions, where people want to get hold of it day one.
"It is an evergreen product. And whereas pre-orders are very important, it is not necessarily the key focus."
I can't quite believe that I'm as excited for Move as I am. I'm not exactly chomping at the bit for Sony's glow-in-the-dark dildo, but I am quite eager to get one and play games like Sorcery. At any rate, Microsoft's cack-handed marketing of Kinect has only made me more interested in Move, so I'll definitely be grabbing one.

Only 6 days till it's released in the UK! Before the US for a change! You may not be, but I am indeed chomping at the bit to get my hands on it! I watch move videos pretty much daily and my hype dial is set to 11.
I'm gonna pick up 2 x move controllers, 1 x Nav-con and Sports Champions - I already have the Camera as it's awesome for stuff like video chat and photo-game-face jobbies already...
Besides Sony and MS are coming late to the party (the Wii has the big share of motion control games market, and that's not gonna change). And Move isn't exactly cheap. So it's pretty obvious they won't sell billions on day 1.
Marketing is gonna play a big part in this, if Sony can convince casual gamers who already have a Wii that Move is worth their time they could do well.
"It's not like Halo or World of Warcraft expansions, where people want to get hold of it day one"
YOU SHOULD BE SAYING UNCHARTED 2/LBP 2 NOT A COMPETING PRODUCT
It's only "evergreen" because they are already planning price drops.
I tried it out last week and the most impressive thing I saw was that when it took a picture during a game it managed to miss me entirely and get a snapshot of my finacee who was standing about 5 ft to the side and about 10 ft back, all while still working.
By the way, two quick questions:
Is the Time Crisis game for Move a port of an older game or a whole new one?
Can you use an Eye Toy camera with the Move instead of the $40 PS Eye camera?
Also, watch, I think it's called "Iwaggle3D" video on youtube of them playing R.U.S.E. with the move and tell me you would rather play games with a dualshock than move....
As of tomorrow, in the UK at least there will already be at least 2 games (an open beta is a game right?) that already support Move and that's before the controllers are even available... RUSE and the MAG beta program, both of which are high up on my "zomg I need it now" list.
Move is not a "release with must have game" product, it's not being treated as a console/platform of it's very own like Kinect is, it's being treated as an OPTIONAL controller, with a long list of PS3 standard games being given the OPTION of Move support.
I love options.
- The fact that its biggest selling point until now its the pointer feature, something the Wii had right from the box since 2006.
Yeah, Move has a lot of 1:1 motion recognition capabilities. But up until now, its pointer controls all over.
So there you go. $100 for a Ps wiimote and nothing else.
I believe that's essentially what they mean here. SONY knows that if they provide the games, Move sales will follow. Yeah, the launch lineup is average, but the technology is sound. Get some of the more core base games using move is a functionally more effective manner (RE5, KZ3, Uncharted, Socom, MAG, etc), get some ports of Wii games like the on-rail shooters, get some creative companies to make some very interesting games via the Move tech and the consumer will buy the tech.
The other thing about Move is that this isn't just some PS3 tech, this is tech that SONY wants to carry forward into the PS4 (whenever that is) which due to its small code size and ease of porting into games, it will never hinder the console anywhere as much as something like Kinect does. Motion controls are a whole new niche in the industry. Everyone has to support it in some capacity, but the key is recognizing that it is a well paced jog, not a sprint.
I don't know what your definition of 1:1 is turtle, but move is as close as current tech can get.
Am I like the only person really looking forward to ruse? Especially with move support!
Yeah it is, pretty much every reviewer has stated so, and the demo's we've seen thus far would certainly disagree with you.
Please explain why you think this.
I have no doubt that the camera can accurately track the glowing ball
Im with you on the move-part, but RUSE really looks like shit haha :D. I played the demo of it and i really thought it sucked wich was too bad, since it would be nice to controll a RTS-game with move.
It was just the game that didnt get to me.
And my economy this month is kinda bad so move went from day1 purchase to "i dont know when" for my part. Ill probably buy it when Heavy Rain and RE5 gets patched for it
@Pedrovay
How about support for existing games like the aforementioned MAG, Heavy Rain and Resident Evil 5. That alone is more reason to Move in. Hahaha.
Dude, we must just be two different animals. I've played the RUSE demo over about 100 times and love it so much!!!
Seriously search "Iwaggle3d" on google and check out their ruse + move video, shit look hawt. apart from the guys stupid French accent.
Either way, they both suck.
Excellent.
Seriously as someone said above, i cannot comprehend why any gamer would not care about this???!
It's the most popular toy/casual-console control scheme, on steroids with AAA game support, full HD etc etc, combined with the competitions control scheme, and is pretty much optional for most of the games.
(no im not a sony hater, i have a few ps3 games, wii just has more)
we fucking hate you.
Wiimote control scheme + playstation3 games really seems like a match made in heaven.
I love to play Modern Warfare on wii, and really feel like something´s missing when i have to play FPS on the PS3 with dual analogs.
The only problem is that to play with Move you have to buy "a new, more expensive wiimote"
And that would be fine and dandy if they had cool and innovative games using 1:1 motion recognition. But they dont. They only have waggle-waggle Heavy Rain.
So... ill wait for a heavy price drop or the really innovative games. Otherwise, just not worthy
speak for yourself brah, we love sexualchocolate and his whacky ways.
A wii, but BETTER.
What more do you want?
Seriously, a chicken, chilly, cheese and chocolate sandwich is "innovative" but I'm sure it wouldn't taste better than a "blt but better"
A computer that can brush your hair would be innovative, but I'd prefer a normal computer but better.
Don't get me wrong, project natal looked interesting, but it's retarded halfwit, short sighted, ginger child called kinect does not.
Give back the finger recognition (read: high resolution capture), the ability to "photo" objects and import them, the ability to recognise 4 players, the full voice recognition etc etc etc and maybe kinect could do more than roll around crying in a puddle of move's piss.
Of course you like him. But not all of us have been playing and loving SONY for TEN YEARS Like YOU both.
