Sony opens up official PlayStation channel on YouTube photo

In an effort to energize a base of misguided youth, Sony has announced the PlayStation channel on YouTube. Starting today, Sony enthusiasts will be able to go to Sony’s YouTube page and browse videos that include interviews, trailers, and gameplay footage. No word if anyone at Sony is going to video blog about their love of Britney Spears in the near future.

The channel won’t just have the same content that can be readily accessed via the PlayStation network. In the future the channel will have a user-generated section, which will consist of unique game videos created through the PS3’s API. In addition to this, there will also be game-specific channels. Which, of course, will start with LittleBigPlanet this November.

Aside from the marketing machine stuff, are you guys into this? Was there a need for it? I’ve been looking for a place to dump all of my LocoRoco videos featuring me drooling over the PSP screen for a long time now. Thank you, Sony.

how did the youtube in pixeljunk eden work? did that become a big hit at all or just a gimmicky thing? i wouldn't personally ever use stuff like that with LittleBigPlanet (since people could just download whatever level i'm trying to show off and play it themselves) nor any other game (since i'm simply not good enough to warrant a video of myself playing).

Not as weird as you might think.....

So, does the latest firmware update allow the PS3 to browse sites like YouTube without constantly grinding to a halt due to "insufficient memory"? Because if not, they're really shooting themselves in the foot with this You Tube channel. How can a machine with a Cell chip in it struggle to load a 5 minute internet video?

@Touch: My only problem with the browser has been getting flash 9 videos to work (GT and the like). Gotta try out some more pages to test what you say.
