That, or as Sony US seems to just be calling it a "promotional price" thing rather than a full-on Cross-Buy scheme, it may just not be *called* Cross-Buy outside of Europe.
Who knows? Sony is confusing sometimes.
The 3ds is doing its best in Japan, where all the best content and service is provided. Maybe this is why?
But most likely they just aren't ready to confirm anything yet. Though it wouldn't surprise me if it was Europe only.
Sweet, ok. So this guy just wasn't authorized to announce it for anyone else. That makes sense. He could have just said that though. =/
not having to buy 2 copies and being able to play them on console and vita at a price of one is freaking sweet!!!!
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a catch here.
Also, I wouldn't bat an eye if Lord Hirai was using this plan to brainwash our housepets into doing some kind of Sony based bidding. Absurd and perverse bidding.
So yeah, there's the downsides. I'm still fucking thrilled.
I think its a great move one way or the next. I think the only way this gets screwed is if Sony focuses on something else if/when this doesn't set the world on fire. Those were the Sir Howard Stringcheese days, though.
Also, this does nothing for Vita-only owners, who are pretty much treated like second class citizens right now. Sony is still treating handhelds like accessories, not distinct platforms.
Man, I hope this changes in the next few months. I do want a Vita for various RPGs in the future, but Sony's not building much trust on the basics, so I don't care about gimmicks like this.
Smash Bros Clone needs to be cross buy to even WORK who wants to throw $60 down a toilet for that drek?
And bundle in some good memory cards, dammit. Stop being dumb.
And then there are ways you can spin it that make sense that make it appear negative, though even then it is still neither great nor bad. In a way, Sony is actually getting you to pay $60 for a handheld game you can "stream" to your TV. You know, like you could on psp with the av out option... which is "strangely" missing from the Vita.
Because you aren't getting a Vita Game with your ps3 game. You are getting THE ps3 game AS a vita game. If you want to play it at home or on the go and you have a Vita... get the $20 cheaper Vita version.
Still, I want to know more details about this. Is it going to be buy a physical copy, get a digital one (Like PS3 Portal 2?) Does it mean the Vita version will be a full $60 since it includes the PS3 version? Can you get them bundled both in physical retail or digital packages?
K!
"Is it going to be buy a physical copy, get a digital one (Like PS3 Portal 2?"
Yep. Pretty much exactly like that. Except the digital one is the vita version.
" Does it mean the Vita version will be a full $60 since it includes the PS3 version?"
No there's still a standalone Vita version that will be the standard $40. Unless it's $50 like Uncharted was. Whatever. Point being it's standalone. There will be no Vita games sold that include PS3 games. Only PS3 games that include Vita games. In other words, Cross Buy only happens in one direction.
"Can you get them bundled both in physical retail or digital packages?"
No. At least they haven't announced that yet. So far it's just a digital copy of the Vita version with purchase of the PS3 game.
*Source of all this = teh Twitterverse*
1. Buy ps3 copy with digital vita copy.
2. Sell ps3 copy to gamestop.
3. Beat game/collect all trophies on vita.
4. Rent ps3 version and sync saves to earn all trophies on ps3 version.
5. ?????
6. Profit!
As long as those stupid vita games cost $55 and ps3 titles $90+ (without taxes) here you just should stick your words where they belong to, cause we in fact ALREADY PAY YOUR CROSSBUY PRICES FOR PS3 TITLES WITHOUT CROSSBUY
Dude you sound fucking pathetic. Your pretty much saying its a negative for getting a download voucher of the vita version for free. I understand your a fanboy but seriously?
I think the bundling does work with Download ps3 as well.(can't remember were I saw that)
@sayword
Yes I'm a fanboy of sorts, but that's not what is driving me here... and I'm not making the deal out to be negative as I don't think it is or could ever be seen as a bad thing by anyone with common sense.
That being said, it is also not such a big deal that it really adds anything to the bottom line of ones purchase of a Vita/ps3 software version either.(depending on if you already own a Vita)
Think about it: is anything I said Untrue?
If the Vita still had AV out, which version would you want to buy, and why do you think Sony decided not to include this feature in the Vita? If you have both consoles anyway, why bother with the ps3 version at all when you can get an Identical value out of the $20 cheaper Vita version(Unless you can Share with friends, but if this will work isn't known yet)
You aren't getting Uncharted 3 with Uncharted GA for free, for example.(although I can see that happening) You are getting the Game you bought to be compatible with another Device. Like when you buy an Android or Itunes product; are you getting a free version of Angry birds because it works with you Ipod and Iphone after purchasing it on your Ipod?(Yeesh...)
I don't think I sound pathetic, and I know you don't actually think that either.^_^
And if posting valid points makes me pathetic, then I guess we are all in the same group here on Dtoid.(well, the majority of us)
This really isn't the first time that someone from a major company has said something was only for their region, only to have it confict with something said prior or other regions..
Just another day in the neighborhood it looks like.
As for the difference between "Cross-buy" and "promotional price" I'm taking it as Sony trying to make Europe feel special.. I'm guessing that they feel Europe is a bit of a soft spot for them and needs that kind of boost.
