Sony looking into PS3 Firmware 3.0 problems photo

The day after PS3 Firmware 3.0 launched, the expected slew of complaints came tumbling in. The PS3's latest update saw isolated but aggravating issues, with copies of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune randomly freezing and DualShock 3 controllers refusing to work. Fortunately for the afflicted, Sony has acknowledged that problems exist, and that they are being worked on.

"SCEA is aware of reports that PS3 owners are experiencing isolated issues with their PS3 system since installing the most recent system software update (v3.00)," the company confesses. "Rest assured that we are looking into the matter and will provide an update here as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience, as it's our mission to deliver the best consumer experience on all PlayStation platforms."

Among the noted issues, some players have also experienced trouble accessing Trophies and logging onto the PlayStation Network. The issues are varied, but fortunately restricted to a select number of people. Nevertheless, I'm still not keen to switch my PS3 on until I know we're in the all-clear.

No issues here, that would be a bad way to start my owning of a PS3.

This is like the 4th time they release a broken Firmware right?

I had a slight controller malfunction the day before the update, but it was a quick fix.

When even i press the mute button, I don't see the corresponding message on my TV.

Other than that, GET THAT FUCKING TICKER OFF MY XMB FOR CHRISTSAKES.

Making me think I got messages when I don't....

It's funny, every time they release this "broken firmware", I never seem to have any problems. I don't think it's as widespread as the news articles make it out to be.

I haven't experienced any issues; although I've only been on my PS3 maybe once or twice since the update. And it was probably to watch a movie...it's barren waiting for Uncharted 2.

I'm pretty sure it was determined that all of the controller issues were experienced by people that had fake PS3 controllers.

I wasn't aware that even happened, but apparently people are selling thousands of fakes of those white japan DualShock3s on ebay and similar sites. And as reported, ALL of those fake whiteys now have stopped working.

I too have had no problems with my PS3 since the update. Although, now that I think about it, one of my 360 controllers started disconnecting randomly the day after I updated my PS3! You don't think...

naaaaah.

Drake's Fortune, I understand, it's possibly a problem with the game code that can be fixed by the devs.
But seriously, controllers dropping connection? I don't see what was done to cause this change at all. I mean, the only thing I can think of is new drivers for the controller not being supported by all models of controller, but Sony should have picked up on that.

Odd.

I'm not updating my PS3 until SONY guarantees that it works fine.

@ Chack

They may give it the ol' "everything is golden" stamp of approval that the update is "fixed", but given the randomness of the issues reported who's to say it won't effect your system in some oddball manner. Go ahead, bite the bullet and update! Live on the wild side! maybe you'll get a PS3 that makes bubbles come out of the USB slots!

The problem with the controller could be solved for most (if not all) people by just re-syncing it with the PS3 via a USB cable.

Too bad the complainers will never say their problem was solved. Maybe they do but it never reaches the news. I guess it's not fun to write about stuff that works. It could also mean that the people who don't know shit about their console jump online with their little problems to get hits. There is a reason why you have to plug your controller in with a USB cable if you use it for the first time. Now if they only remembered that everything would be fine.

But yeah, I'm in the same boat as everybody commenting here. I've got my PS3 day one, updated all the upgrades the moment the got released (sometimes even before the official release) and never had a problem, not even the slightest.

I hope they give gamers the option to change the size of the fonts and GUI in the next update.

I hope they change the font size, gray friend blocks, and excess PS Store icons. Those seem like issues to me. Hopefully they also add a feature that matters too.

This has happened to both PS3's i have gotten. My first one i got i took it back to best buy and exchanged it for another which has started freezing again. My controller works fine and stuff from the hard drive like demos work fine too.

@Mr. Sterling, it doesn't make sense that you'd postpone not updating your ps3 if you aren't gonna use it until they have a fix for the problem.

Seriously, think about it for a sec.

The only problem I've been having is that MAG keeps on crashing after almost every round, but that's probably due to the new update and not the firmware :P. Nonetheless, I'm sorry to everyone on my friend's list who has to experience the pop-ups of me constantly logging out then back in. I know they can be annoying at times.

Man, i have not seen anything that is wrong, for the majority the update is fine, just update and if there is a problem then you can just not turn on your ps3 THEN. Stop treating this as swine flu and treat it as it really is, down syndrome ( i apologize to all i may have offended, except the pigs).

ALso, bullet trains' comment is wrong on 3 levels. Can YOU name what they are?

I updated day 1 and I've had no problems at all. uncharted is a seriously old game now, who is STILL playing that?

Also, bought a fake white DS3 off ebay? and now it's not working? Tough.

I'm really liking 3.0 - love how you can see the time right away now, and got the free Afrika dynamic background from the jap store - awesome. Also loving how you don't need to check your messages to see if you've got any.

The whole, "what's new" thing is so so, I'm curious as to why the Store is now on the XMB twice, but apart from that it's all good.

Except for the fact that I've moved into the Mrs's dad's for a whole 7 weeks till our new house is ready and NO FUCKING INTERNETS! NOOOOOOOOO!

Those of us who just got a PS3 maybe?

I think even if you did have a problem you would not say it since you have your dick in the playstation so much

Actually Elsteveo, my comments are always my personal opinions, if i had a problem with the update i would have said so.

Like when my Blu-ray drive crapped out, I was not afraid to comment about it on here, just my comments were not negative against Sony as they fixed it free and out of warrantee.

When Sony do something to piss me off, i will say so.

Rather than "having my dick in my PS3" (some of us are grown up's with women for that!) I just have a bit of an inflated hatred for Microshaft and the Errorbox 360 - I mean come on it's last gen hardware with some improved graphics and yall talk like it's some fucking super entertainment system from the future! It's a fucking DVD player and a PC graphics card taped together, POORLY taped together, with some money thrown at exclusives.

Come on.

It would be NICE if the PS3 actually booted to a Logo Screen and Jingle when I start a game, -- like it has ALWAYS done since the inception of the Playstation -- but you know, whatever. I could be playing an Xbox for all I know? Oh, wait... any Xbox game boots to a logo and jingle when I start it. Wow, then I don't know what the hell I'm playing? The Wii?

There seems to be a group of users (myself included) that have had major problems since installing the new firmware. on the official playstation blog site there are 776 postings now, with the majority of them stating their ps3's have crapped out immediately after installing the firmware. some people state they can still play games and movies for about 10-15 mins before the system freezes, but the majority including myself are experiencing the issue where movies and games arent being detected. the system is basically now a web browser. Sony claims they are all hardware issues, which is a little odd seeing as how everyone had the problem immediately after installing the update.
Tonight I am swapping out a working blu-ray drive with the one in my system to see if is actually a hardware problem or not
