Sony lends 2K a helping hand with BioShock for the PS3 photo

Thanks to a recent announcement by Sony regarding the PS3's upcoming version of BioShock, it seems as if future fans of the game (along with those of us destined to buy it all over again) can rest easy knowing that the tools are set in place for a smooth conversion from the Xbox 360/PC original.

Sony is still carefully opting out of divulging information regarding what new perks PS3 owners can expect from the game, but they were quick to point out that the 2K teams (Boston, Marin, and Australia) are not going it alone on this one.

An unknown 3rd-party developer -- with proven coding skills for the PS3 -- has been asked to join the lineup, which bodes well for the game. The question is...which one? Regardless of who it is, one thing is without question: BioShock is one of those games that leaves a lasting impression on whoever plays it, which can only mean one thing -- the PS3 is in for one hell of a treat.

I'm glad it's coming to PS3, after a year or so of sadness at my PC being too low spec and my Xbox being non-existent. I can finally play it!

I guess I'm the only one who finds it hilarious that they need two developers to make a port to the BS3.

I'm guessing it's someone from Insomniac.

They've already shown they can make good games in a reasonable amount of time for the PS3 and they seem to just keep getting better at it.

Also, they're all supposedly really fun to work with.

@xmentninjax: I doubt it's a need, but I'm sure it's help that is gladly accepted considering it will help get the job done sooner.

P.S. You fanboyis is showing, cover that up quick!

My bets are that it's Naughty Dog

It can't be Insomniac or Naughty Dog since they are technically 2nd party. I think it might be Epic since it's there engine and they were working with Sony to optimize UE3 for the PS3.

@mrlokievil: Both Insomniac and Naughty Dog are third-party developers. While both are focused on the PS3, they are independent developers.

@loki d20: That's why I said technically. I know they are independent but what other systems have they developed games for in the past couple years? They are not the developers I think of when someone mentions 3rd party.

@mrlokievil: Thats why I think it's them. Because of the fact that all they do is develop for the PS3 right now. Who knows it better than the people who do that? Plus the amount of polish and whatnot Uncharted had, I couldn't think of anyone else I'd like to help with the port.

i will get this game. i think its the santa monica team. or guerrilla.but not insomniac, if so they would have said it concerning the phree engine which bioshock don't use so that wouldn't help unless tearing the already engine to shreds which i just don't see.

Naughty Dog is 2nd party; Insomniac is 3rd party. Check their wikis.

I'm waiting till I hear the additional content before I buy this one again, I already have it for PC. But it is good news none the less.

MaxVest is right. Just checked the Naughty Dog Web site and they were bought out in 2001 by SCE. Strange, in all the interviews I've seen, everyone refers to them as a third-party developer.

I still hope it's Naughty Dog and the third-party is in relationship to 2K and not Sony.

I bet I know which dev it is. They're a somewhat-obscure studio that's helped several developers optimize games (particularly ones based on the Unreal engine) while maintaining virtually no obvious credit.

And uh... they're so obscure, in fact... that I can't remember their damned name for the life of me.

One of these new-fangled gaming blogs ran a story on them recently. Does ANYONE have ANY idea who I'm talking about?

If it's Naughty Dog or Insmoniac, the PS3 version will be the best version, easily. But I'm sure the PS3 version will have some exclusive features that will be in BS2 which will be for PC/PS3/360.

I was thinking it was Epic since they already have UTIII under their belt and they did develop the Unreal Engine.
