Sony launches PlayStation Store for PC photo

Cool news for PlayStation Portable owners who haven't made the jump to the PlayStation 3 -- Sony has announced that the PlayStation Store is now available through your PC.

Launched today, this PSP-centric version of the store already features a slew of new content, including a Playstation Store PSP exclusive, Syphon Filter: Combat Ops ($9.99). Other full titles are also available, including a digital version of the PSP classic, Wipeout Pure, as well as a handful of PSX titles, videos, and demos.

A full list of update can be found over at the official PlayStation Blog.

This is good news

...if you have a PSP, which I don’t (I only have a PS3). I thought this was going to make a difference to PS3 owners, but apparently, all the PS3 content has to be downloaded through a PS3. Meh.

@ BronXbOmBr21

Why in the hell would you want to download things to your computer and then have the trouble of transferring it to your PS3? How would PC downloaded content do anything to enhance your PS3?

I'm a PSP owner, but I don't think I'll use this. I've already got homebrew on my PSP with my old SNES games loaded into it.

@vexed alex: Well, I have a thumbdrive, so the transfer isn’t too much of an issue. I didn’t necessarily want to do what you mentioned; I just didn’t realize this was only going to be significant for PSP owners. Still, in case I was away from my PS3 (like I will be for this four-day weekend — I’m going home for Thanksgiving, and it’s staying at college), I’d be able to download some stuff to my comp and then just immediately put it on the PS3, instead of getting back to school and then downloading. I dunno...I guess you’re right; I probably wouldn’t use it even if it was an option.

If they would release Vandal Hearts 2 I would be so happy. My copy of the game freezes up sometimes because it's been through a lot.

That's pretty cool. Now maybe I can find something good to do with my PSP, other than set Jessica Alba as my wallpaper.

I've been wanting my overlords @ Sony to do this for some time, but man, this sucks...

NVC and iTunes have defined the industry, this looks like shit, has 2 titles @ "Launch" and is needlessly complicated.

Steps to fix:

1.) Free / Cheap ($2.99-6.99) titles that are not just PSOne rehashes

2.) Make it work directly on the PSP or have a iTunes like software product for Mac/PC*

3.) Design it better, it looks like GameTrailers.com :P

4.) Where's the user-level Devkit sony? huh? Again, your SDK and dev system is like $4700 and thats before any third party tools

5.) Instore download centers, a la Nintendo

6.) Ditch UMD entirely and bury it along side MiniDisc, SuperCD and 2.5" Floppies (yeah they existed)

7.) Buy Vicious Engine from D3 / Vicious Cycle (makers of the Awesomely awesome Dead Head Fred) and add that to the SDK you ship out instead of your crap tools.

* [b] NOTE: SONY SHOULD NEVER, EVER, EVER MAKE PC/MAC SOFTWARE. IT IS ALWAYS HORRENDOUS SHIT. HIRE SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT, IT AIN'T HARD.
