The problem with the Wii U is that it doesn't seem anywhere near the technical leap that occurred between Playstation 2 to Xbox 360, and by the time developers do realize how to create games that have an apparent technological advantage over current-generation games, the next iteration of Microsoft and Sony hardware will likely be soon to arrive with truly "next-gen" capable technology. Nintendo just seems incredibly uninterested in future-proofing systems at this time, which is incredibly unfortunate.
but the point is, Sony/Microsoft/Pc set the current trend for what's popular with gamers. Graphical update sure but they also did it because Wii sales were waning in the here and now and the interest have shifted to those core machines.
It's still a "me too" situation by Nintendo because they wouldn't have put emphasis on being able to bring those same experience to a Nintendo machine.

that's so fuckin totally like ps3 and 360...OH WAIT
Doesn't sound like Microsoft has anything besides Forza, Halo, and some Kinect mini games for 2011. No sign of the next litterbox. And besides the fact Wii U will see some of the same titles the PS3 will the only reason (I saw) to buy one is Zelda in HD.
That will probably sell me a Wii U, but unless the big N makes it cheap enough for mom and dad to drop it into their cart without thinking about it during the weekly trip to Wally Mart the way they did with the Wii I'm probably in the minority.
the card debuted in the second half of 2009.
heavilly modified RV770 chip that Nintendo is using with Wii U was the most powerful chip from 4000 series and is still considered one of the best on the market. that GPU still has 4x better hardware specs than RSX(which was basically dumbed down version of GF 7800GTX).
http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=310&card2=566 - let's see actual 7800GTX(which is more powerful than RSX) vs Radeon 4850 which actually is weaker than GPU used in Wii U.
This is getting ridiculous. I call it last gen because it is, no other reason. It's what everyone else calls it, as well. No one AT ALL disputes that it's more powerful than what's in the 360 or PS3, because it would be absolutely insane if it wasn't.
However, you telling us that anything from the 4000 series is "one of the best on the market" when you can grab something from the 6000 series for cheap is just silly. Also, you telling us the RV770 is from "the second half of 2009" is just dishonest. Normally, I would consider it a meaningless detail, but your exaggerations annoy me.
"The Radeon R700 is the engineering codename for a graphics processing unit series developed by Advanced Micro Devices under the ATI brand name. The foundation chip, codenamed RV770, was announced and demonstrated on June 16, 2008 as part of the FireStream 9250 and Cinema 2.0 initiative launch media event,[4] with official release of the HD4800 series on June 25, 2008." -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radeon_4000_series
Seriously, stop making stuff up off the top of your head. It ruins your own arguments.
As for what the article said, lets be honest here, I don't think Microsoft or Sony are that worried at all, or really have a right to be until they (and we) see that Nintendo is actually making good on anything they're talking about with the Wii U..
Sony knows after the PSN hackings that their fans are there and will stick by them and the internet is always abuzz with both companies fanboys fighting with each other over who's the best. Considering that theres still no real evidence that the new Nintendo console will be any more powerful then a 360, theres no real reason to push out a better console when Sony's already got better then that out there.
And I truely believe in my heart of hearts, that even if the Wii U is a better console hardware-wise then either of it's competitors, that most people still really won't bother to switch over, only maybe buying the console still just to play the Nintendo made exclusives. This is because theres still way to many things that are really very foggy when it comes to Nintendo's whole plan (the REAL story of its online functionality, whether it'll have some sort of trophy/achievement like rewards ect) that players are looking for that Nintendo hasn't mentioned, that they don't traditionally provide(and said, at least before, that they wouldn't -like achievements) -and that sort of shit is a big deal to many players. And considering that Nintendo hasn't really impressed anyone by either the Wii, the DS' or the 3DS' handling of the internet (or even their UI's) theres no reason to think the Wii U will floor anyone while its still so much in the dark.
Damage control: It can only get better
PlayStation Move. That is all.
"Reggie Fil-aime spouts BS, Nintendo faithful *lol* parrot him verbatim and defend his shoddy PR spin.
Damage control: It can only get better"
You see, it really does work both ways and in some cases even more true when it comes to that companies promises over time.
I'm not even defending Sony here, just pointing out rickety, leaky, arguments.
Also, you can plug Iwata in there if you want depending who's saying what, in whichever office -pretty much any company has a ton of voices, you could plug Kaz in your comment if you want too.
Took the words right out of my mouth.
We should demand better software, not better hardware.
Fixed
The 360, meanwhile, needs to get the hell out. That DVD format is strangling the industry.
did everyone just up and forget about the terrible n64 and lukewarm gamecube sales? its not like nintendo always knows what the fuck its doing or is even right most of the time.
