In a nutshell.
Sony shat the bed in colossal fashion; like Legend said, this isn't over at all. And class actions can take the better part of a decade to settle, even longer if they go to trial, which probably won't happen.
Why didn't people sue Visa/Mastercard when they had like 1.5 (maybe 15?) million cards stolen?
UNFORGIVABLE!!!
this is why..... forget it someone already covered it.
But yeah, even if it's divided 1000 ways, $1 billion is a lot of money... not to mention the lawyers will get a nice little percentage of it.
Are u fucking kidding me. This guy thinks Sony is god or some shit. Trust your government, trust your father to have never cheated on your mother, trust who? Trust that you have the will power to quit smoking tomorrow? chances are your break that trust too.
This lawyer is an idiot savant.
have you actually literally lost close friends because of your dedication to Sony or was that a really dry joke?
I'm with you homey, fanboy or not, i am sticking with Sony cause i still think they have the best games and console for me. This could happen to anyone. Kotaku was hacked, didn;t see everyone going after their throats. Shit happens. Gotta roll with the punches. And all because of a bunch of 40-year old virgins in Anonymous...
Agreed. How about some Mass Effect 3! ... Lots of 3's this year. Any other 3's coming out this year?
Sony has also yet to make clear their compensation for anyone who paid for a PSPlus membership and could potentially show losses associated with this - in fact I believe Sony has already offered to extend existing memberships to cover the time lost... so again losses may be difficult to prove.
I'm not really sure what people hope to gain by launching a class action law suit... aside from costing Sony a lot more money which in turn somehow gets passed on to us gamers in some manner or other.
What's stupid is to assume that any transaction you make online will be 100% safe and secure. EVERYONE who makes a financial transaction online knows that there is at least some risk to their personal information. It goes without saying. It also goes without saying that NO SYSTEM will EVER be 100% safe and secure. Clever hackers and/or crackers will ALWAYS find a way through the defenses. Companies and civilians alike should definitely do whatever they can to safeguard that information, but the reality is if someone wants the information badly enough they will get it no matter what the safeguards.
I mean, if my house gets robbed do I sure the company that made the lock because it was not strong enough to withstand that screwdriver or gunshot? Do I sue the company that built the house because the frame around the door was not strong enough to stand up to that swift kick? What about suing the lumber company for their low-grade wood that splintered so easily upon impact? No. That would be laughable. So, imho, is this.
Basically I just want this to end so we can all go on being excited discussing games instead of security and litigation and other boring shit I don't get excited by IRL.
