Sony hires company to recycle PSOne cases photo

Who doesn’t want a chair or a pen created from a PSOne? Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has contracted a UK-based company by the name of Electronic Waste Company to potentially recycle several hundred thousand PSOne cases and turn them into household objects like chairs or even pens.

The idea behind this move is brilliant. As it stands now, SCEE is sitting on top of at least 300,000 PSOne cases in their repair center, and that’s probably a few too many than what is needed. Instead of just burying them in New Mexico, SCEE has decided to go green with console grey. It makes the environmental freaks happy, as well as clears out a warehouse.

This makes me wonder if, in thirteen years Microsoft decides to do this same thing, if it would be possible for a company to handle the breadth of the project? Microsoft is sitting pretty with five of my overheated Xbox 360s currently.

I wonder if the ET and Pacman copies would have gotten along with the Playstation cases?

I think they would have just been jealous.

I gotta say, it's good to see companies at least making the attempt to minimise their carbon footprint.

I'd like to see Sony make the newest Bluray player inside one of those bad boys. It'd be so nice to hear PSones in the house again (/nostalgia)

That really is a good idea though - doing their part for the environment, while making the future me admire a pen that may, at one point, have been my beloved Playstation.

Those overheated 360s have already been shipped off to other suckers^Wcustomers, so don't worry about it.

I stared at that picture for a long time.. I knew it looked like something familiar, but couldn't figure it out.. Then it hit me like a pile of bricks.

there was something about what game companies are doing about system waste and recycling . sony is way above microsoft. and nintendo is doing the least about disposing of there waste.

w00t! as a manager for a E-Waste recycling company I applaud you! I can't wait for the day my job is pointless!

I'm actually not being sarcastic, It's just a side job, and its hard as hell for how pitiful I get paid. I just do it because nobody else will though, so that I can't get pointed at when they ask who's to blame for the world looking like crap. Sony apparently feels the same way, because I think they have a recycling program for almost all of their electronics. Snaps all around!

I thought you meant the ps1 video game cases. Oh yeah I can find them for $10 dollars each about 15 in a store used store.
