Oh that's right. The same thing happened with the PSP!
So much for those silly arguments against backward compatibility, eh?
The only games that interest me, unfortunately, are Assassin's Creed and Soul Sacrifice.
They could always, you know, enable Remote Play on the PS3, since anyone with a hacked console can steam to any Vita (since the Vita released!).
3ds does not equal vita in the same way the ds did not equal PSP. This "matter of time" you speak of never came around for the PSP for similar reasons the vita is doing poorly. If publishers see a sinking ship, they more often than not bail out of that ship rather than try to keep it buoyant. Which sucks, but you know, bottom lines and all.
I was one of the people that defended the original $250 price but can't anymore. They need to cut it. May piss off early adopters but it's necessary.
Sony needs to cut the price by at least $50 (so it's not as expensive as a new PS3), reduce the price of memory cards by at least half, add PSOne Classic support NOW, and start working on PS2 Classic support, as well as a way to play PSN titles purchased on the PlayStation Store between PS3 and PSVita.
I know that would cost pleeeeeeeenty of money and work but it's better than letting your handheld rot like this.
It'll hit its stride, sales will pick up, and the third party support will come.
What I don't understand is why every third party isn't jumping on it. Think about the early days of the ps3 and 360, good games but not much happening and then boom call of duty 4 happened, and the Gen got going with everyone playing second fiddle to cod.
Now here we are in a similar situation , everyone is interested in the vita but wants that it game, and again here comes Activision, and if they can put a console experience cod on the vita, the third party devs will get their safety net but will once again play second fiddle to cod.
If I'm a third party I want to be that game. Playing it safe works sometimes ( and is very understandable in this economy) but over caution can cause you to miss big opportunity's. I'm not saying be completely reckless and bank everything on one title but if you want to pull cod numbers like they all claim to want then moments like this are as good a chance as you will get to make it happen.
I was waiting for this machine eagerly but will stick to the PSP for now for mobile games.
That and Persona 4 Golden.
I agree. Sound Shapes is amazing. I've never been interested in making levels in a game before. What's your psn?
I said it way back when the Vita first started tanking: Consumers need to be excited about the Vita for publishers to want to hop on board. It's not about Monster Hunter, or all that other shit, it's about consumers having the will and means to buy the thing. If its first 6 months of sales are any indication, Sony has a long way to go with this thing to convince publishers not to go to greened, more 3D, pastures.
It doesn't help that Sony pulled a PS3 move, and released an expensive system chock full of non-gaming shit, and couldn't focus down the marketing. Though, the marketing in general has seemed to wane at this point, another move I'd say is typical of Sony.
3DS had full BC day one. guess what hasn't. Not only that, when eShop came online the vast majority of DSiware games remained compatible to the new platform. Guess what hasn't been compatible with much of the PSN catalog that it was said to be compatible with.
Both 3DS and Vita struggled on NEW SOFTWARE. That is true, but that is where the similarities end. 3DS never denied you access to games you already owned.

I'm still working on my first level. I'm too much of a goddamned perfectionist. I LOVE the tune I've made but the platforming isn't very fun yet. I'll get it. Eventually.
It's so weird, because they have all the tech within their company, but execution seems to find them falling flat on their faces more often than not.
And not directed toward Sony.
The Vita is easily the most "hardcore" portable gaming system I've played in a good while now. It has the horsepower to really shine if devs would give it a solid chance.
Netherealms's wonderful Mortal Kombat port showed this. Aside from lower res textures, it has EVERYTHING it's big brother PS3 version and then some extra on top of it. And it still looks great.
I have both a 3DS and a Vita, and it actually almost pains me to say this, but I almost entirely regret purchasing the 3DS. The Vita however, while the releases have been slow, I'm really impressed by what the system has offered and shown it can do so far. Quite pleased I bought it.
That said, Sony is completely innocent here either. For one, like has been mentioned there is no excuse why I can't be playing my PS1 classics on this superior handheld yet. I have a pretty big library of them from my PSP time too.
However, all this said, I believe strongly that the Vita will come into it's own with time and show the world what it can really do.
If Sony wanted to get developers interested in the system, they should have put out a few games I actually wanted to play. I can live without another uncharted.
Don't forget that the PSP had this same issue, there was a pretty limited amount of games avaliable in each category.
Sony, just give up. You clearly don't know how to make your console's life work. And this is coming from a man who hates the 3DS.

Gosh darn it, Sony, you can be a pain to support sometimes.
They really need to get a Final Fantasy, GTA, CoD, and Dragon Quest on this to convince the masses that they're in it to win it.
Throw in some PS3 functionality (as an alternate controller) and a TV remote mode (like the Wii U) and Vita becomes the best handheld ever.
High-Res Display --> requires High-Res Assets --> increases costs --> bad third party support.
I was wondering the same thing. It'd be nice to hear from third party publishers on the subject, see if increased costs have anything to do with it.
