With the NPD figures crashing in and the dust settling from yet another month in the console wars, Sony has emerged with very strong numbers and what looks to be a successful run for the PS3 since its $299 price cut. The platform holder has, naturally, come out boasting, promising that this is only the beginning of an "onslaught" that will see Sony continue to "redefine" entertainment.
"We are in the midst of one of the most exciting times for PlayStation as we continue to redefine entertainment experiences for consumers, both at home and on the go," beamed Sony boss Jack Tretton. "The best part is that we’ve only just begun an onslaught of relentless, rich content hitting throughout the fiscal year, including Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, God of War III, MAG, and ModNation Racers.
"We’re also seeing tremendous response to the great value of the newer, slimmer, lighter 120GB PS3 system, which surpassed its one million unit mark worldwide just after three weeks on shelves. In NPD Group’s September 2009 video game sales data, released today, the PS3 ranked as the top console sold for the month, beating out all our competitors. It was also the only hardware platform to realize an increase of 112% when compared to the same period last year."
Tretton also adds that the PSPgo has seen "additional momentum for the entire PSP platform," which probably means that the PSPgo is continuing to make the PSP-3000 look like an awesome purchase.
"The dream is dead."
You see what I did there? Capcom fanboy, right here.
I don't know about jdigital, but I do know that Sexualchocolate is too busy working as a high-level marketing executive who smokes joints on his lunch break, probably while pirating games at the same time.
Hey, it's just a recount of the things that came out of his mouth - he said it, not me.
Also, PSPGo sucks.
Can't wait for the PR spin on that.
Tekken 6 is on the 360 as well, btw.
I can easily see them taking number 2 in 2010, but I don't foresee anyone taking over the Wii until next generation (or if the Sony Wands/Natal is priced at something ridiculously low, and becomes the newest fad: which I doubt will happen, as parents/grandparents don't want to play RE5: Director's Cut, or other various niche games).
Also, PSPGo sucks."[/I]
This. Verbatim.
And why do I even ask/care?
I'm not pro-sony, that is SexualChocolate... I'm pro-GT5 :)
Sony is doing some nice things lately though, you must admit...
What they need to do is stop talking about the fucking system and talk about the games out there for it. Demon's Souls, Critter Crunch, Uncharted 2, give them all more "air" time instead of blabbing about console numbers.
Then maybe you should get a PS3... have you not seen the exclusives that are lined up, nor heard of the things that have already been released? Price drop, slim, uncharted 2, !!!!GT5!!!! (lol), what is stopping you?
I'm not going to bother listing all the games but for serious... PS3 front is bad ass lately and looking better and better. PSP is having a hard time because it is losing a lot of support from devs due to piracy. I dunno, I'm kinda torn on that one, but I'm not much of a mobile gamer though so it really doesn't pertain to me.
I say this because I think its took late this generation for Sony for them to have a chance. Yes the price cut was a huge help and yes they do have some great exclusives but I think the damage is done for this generation and there isnt much thats going to help them get back to where they want to be. It seems like every step they take forward they end up taking 1 if not 2 steps back within a couple of months time.
Im glad they have been as successful as they have been, competition is the best thing this industry has going for it and I wish them success but I just dont see it happening.
They've probably always cared about sales figures... I still for the life of me can't figure out why anyone here actually cares.... unless you own stock.
But as a gamer, who fucking cares? Seriously... Last time I posed this question I didn't get a single answer.
First it's the best selling console. Then they come out with the only hardware platform to have a 112% increase. And you totally missed the "playstation family spin", but you could not use that now.
Other than that...meh.
Very true, but I was mostly referring to the months when they'd be outsold by MS and Nintendo and they would always say, "It's OK, we've got a 10-year plan." And now that they've sold more units than their competitors for a whole month they've jumped onboard the "look at our numbers!" bandwagon.
But yeah, I agree. Couldn't care less how much anybody sells as long as they all keep making good games (which they all do).
because the only hing Besides ODST that Microsoft has given us is Aaron Greenberg's monthly PR which everyone considers as noise. Now we're paying alot of attention to Sony, the company everyone loved to hate thanks to the PS3's launch price, and they're doing very well.
Many people with ps3's knew, or at least hoped that this would happen. Sure ms were fast out of the gates (intended), too fast if failure rates are considered, but we all know that slow and steady wins the race.
Sony are just building up momentum after ms's underhanded gun jump at the start of this gen. The best is still to come.
Watch this space, ms will be back with a dvd player taped to an even bigger graphics card very soon.
What I mean is that yes, the PS3 is a good buy. NOWADAYS. And that's why I bought one. NOWADAYS.
Underhanded gun jump? Oh, you mean kind of like the PSPGo trying in vain to force digidistro down the mass market consumer's throat like a horny facehugger?
Buddy, you gotta stop drinking the Kool-Aid. I'm just as critical of every company, every developer, every publisher and every console manufacturer as I am Sony, believe me. I don't think MS should be defended for shitty hardware flaws. However, I don't think Sony has had the proper business strategy in mind for a long, long time, and it just so happened that the poor PS3 finally caught a break (pun intended). Now, it seems that the fire that just got started could get a little hotter if it weren't Sony pissing all over its sole source of heat with the PSPGo debacle.
If you ask me, they made the "make.believe" slogan just to describe the people that defend them without question - people like you. If the slow and steady approach wins races, then tripping and falling on your front teeth must surely assist in losing them. That's honesty. Something I doubt you're prepared to hear.
BEHOLD MY MIGHTY HAND!
Yes, un=daerhanded gunjump, ie, knowingly releasing a borked console, despite many early adopters suffering failures, simply to beat the competition to it. That caused a massive lead early on, but it's not enough, and the 360 is clearly running out of steam.
The go has got nothing to do with anything here. I'm talking Trey. The go could easily run the same way as the trey, have a rough launch, too expensive etc etc, but as the add features and as the digital library grows it could realise it's potential, however it could also fail at the hands of the fucking I('masheep)phone.
"caught a break" - Uh, what? PS3's rarely break. It's a long way off my "out of the gates" pun dude. You're slipping.
:0)
what the hell gives you people the right to count out the people who just want digital. now yeah, that crowd is no where near the size of the no prob with umd people, but they still exist.
@ Midgetsnowman or should i say retard.. umm they are not shoving the go down our thoughts. its what fat douch whats you to believe, but seriously if the go was the Hitler of handhelds why the fuck are sony making the 3000 duhhh. its a choice you fucktard. if you want a go you can get one. if you don't well then don't. soon every umd game will have a digital counter part.
so in conclusion shut the fuck up about the pspgo because it's not the only psp out there and if you don't want one like i previously stated don't fucking buy it..... sheesh want tards you guys are. oh and i apologies for the language, just to much ignorance going around to effectively silence without bieng hardcore...lol ummmmmm on topic go sony :)
Destructoid cares because its a gaming blog so they kinda have to cover it the people who read destructoid care either because there interested in this crap or because it gives them stuff to flame other consoles with.
