I want Odin Sphere on the go ! NOW !
also: i am sure to play ps2 games on you psv will be possible for japan only for the first 4 years of the vita's lifetime. and then for a fee you can do it in us & europe.
also playstation will be thq at 2016
I'm waiting to see if any alternative flash memory cards ever show up for the thing anyway so I guess I'm not the person that this would affect.
I hope they do the same thing as the PSP and make the featureset absolutely massive over time. Between their own support and PS Suite, they have the power.
Uhhhh, what? The Vita is certainly powerful, but I don't know about this. When you go from 5th generation console emulation up to 6th generation emulation, there's a large leap in the required processing power to run the game well. If they want the PS2 games on PSN to run on the Vita, they'll probably have to update them one by one to make them more compatible with the Vita's hardware.
The only reason PS3 doesn't play PS2 games is because they want to continue selling more-than-decade old PS2 hardware for about $100 a pop. Jack Trenton said himself that cutting backwards compatibility had no effect on production costs, but it was to "encourage the sale of PS3 software". Just google it.
Furthermore, if Sony released a BC PS3 again, they could easily charge another $50 premium to recoup the dollar it cost to add the hardware. It would definitely all considering how much people pay for used 60GB PS3s (at one time, twice as much as non-BC new consoles).
Yeah, that makes sense... Seriously, though, you think this is simply for the sake of restricting them? Let's think about this for a second... You think at some meeting at Sony, someone made the decision to restrict the Vita from playing PS2 games just because they could? This is moronic. The truth is, it's either a) a business decision (they want to release HD ports that will look better on the hardware or some other reason) or b) a technical hurdle that was deemed too expensive to overcome (and therefore partly a business decision).
Let's stop saying stupid things like "this company did this just because they were able to." I'm not saying that companies have the users' best interest in mind, but come on; put some more thought into this.
Really the only thing that would have kept me from selling it was that.
Don't get me wrong, I do want PS2 games on the go.
However, for Sony to accomplish this, too much work with emulators & compatibility testing on game by game bases need to be done.
I say let them finish with PSP emulation compatibility list (275 title or so) & PSone classics for the Vita, then let them work on PS2 games or better yet improve the Vita OS and make remote play and browser working right.
It's all about priorities. PS2 emulation is nice, but before that there are to many things need to be done and set straight for Vita before that.
They want you to buy the launch games, on top of the system and mem-card. They want you playing Uncharted, Escape Plan, Little Deviants, etc. They don't want you playing old PS2/PSX games on your shiny new Vita yet because that takes money away from those launch games. At least, that's the only "legitimate" business marketing reason I can think of for this move. I firmly believe that the firmware update for PS2/PS1 support is coming. Now, do I believe the PS2 Classics will get the support they deserve? I do wonder about that.
We gonna start bitching about a lack of backwards-cross-platform-compatibility now?
It plays my PSP games, it plays my Vita games. Happy Days.
(I know there's a list of 256 PSP games that officially work, but rumour has it most others do too)
All I wanted was to be able to play my PS3 games on the go. Dark Souls in a waiting room. Skyrim on a train. They aren't getting any money from me until this is possible.
Does this article cover remote play as well, because I had heard they were going to add game compatibility, did they just go back on what they said?
It just seems like their marketing campaign doesn't make sense. Why market to people who already have a PS3 and not include PS3 compatibiliy? I mean who wants to go out and buy a new console and buy all your games over again. To expensive for my taste's. If Vita allowed me to play my already owned PS3 games I would consider buying one.
well, remote play is a separate thing.

They said "we’ll have further details to share in the future." regarding remoteplay.
All I want to know is this: If my kids are using the TV, can I play a PS3 game on my vita if it is installed to the hard drive and the disk is in the system?
Can someone please answer this?
