Sony goes nuts at GC 2008: PSP 3000, 160GB PS3, downloadable music and more photo

We're not at Leipzig's Games Convention this year, but that isn't stopping the new from pouring out of the event. IGN UK is liveblogging the event, so we'll just nab a bit from them. They won't mind.

Here's the highlights:

  • SingStar Disney is exactly as it sounds. Singalong with Disney is the official subtitle of this game where you're singing along to Disney videos.
  • You can now use your PS2 copies of SingStar to move the songs to the PS3 version. Nice!
  • SingStar Queen!
  • Son's Music Download service will hit in Q3 of next year, streaming service to hit Q1.
  • EU gets limited edition 160 GB PS3, for 449 Euros, includes 70 Euros of additional downloadable game content
  • PSP 3000 will launch on the 15th of October for 199 Euros, comes with game packed in. Comes with built-in mic and Skype, and enhanced screen
  • Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain is shown
  • EyePet is a new software that uses EyeToy to raise virtual pets.

Keep in mind that these items aren't confirmed for US release.

What do you think of the announcements so far? We'll fill in the holes as releases are sent into Dtoid HQ.

[Thanks, ActionBastard]

PSP 3000 could definitely be cool. Sounds slightly pricy though hopefully its not more than slightly over $200 if/when it comes to the U.S.

@Infinity Obscurity:

Don't you know nothing about economy? When it comes to the US, they only change the currency symbol.

Somehow you managed to steal a picture of my happy place. Give it back!

As for the announced news... Heavy Rain is the only thing that interests me as it sounds like a game worth looking in to so far.

What exactly is enhanced about the PSP3000 screen? Brightness? Resolution? Reduced energy consumption? OLED?

Also, my pants are enhanced by that photo.

Singstar Queen? Please tell me you mean Freddy Mercury's Queen. Cause it's been my dream to sing Bohemian Rhapsody in Rock Band but seeing as how it's not happening(yet) Singstar will do.

Pretty disappointed with the conference. For a Game Convention, they focused way too much on hardware, and then for the games they focused pretty much on just one most of the time (SingStar).

Anyway, there's also supposed to be a 160GB PS3 coming to the US with a similar price, but bundled with Drake's Uncharted instead of 70 Euros worth of downloadable game content.

Do hope that PlayTV makes its way to the US.

What exactly is enhanced about the PSP3000 screen? Brightness? Resolution? Reduced energy consumption? OLED?

More vibrant colors and pixel depth, better lighting for indoor/outdoor viewing equally (reduced glare and the such).

The 160GB PS3 is the current 40GB PS3 with a larger HDD, btw.

I have already made my PS3 have 320 gb. But a new PSP sounds pretty good.
