Sony: God of War III 'set apart' from other modern games photo

Sony is loading the hype cannons and preparing for a full assault with God of War III, and who can really blame them? As Kratos gears up for an all-new adventure, Sony product manager Claire Backhouse has sprayed her PR juice in the faces of fans, claiming that God of War III will be a thoroughly unique game for this generation,

"God of War III combines these new technologies with the much loved gameplay elements from the previous games -- Puzzle solving, brutal combat and epic set-piece battles," explains Backhouse. "It also benefits from a deep and involving storyline, steeped in Greek Mythology. This is what makes God of War III unique and sets it apart from other next gen titles.

"I think if you are over 18 and want an amazing single player experience this year then God of War III is a must have."

God of War III is definitely going to be stupendous, but I do hope Sony doesn't pretend it's the second coming of Christ and build it up into something it isn't. I don't think anybody expects the game to be genre-defining or some unique slice of innovation. They want violence, boobs and angry Spartans. Put the PR buzzwords in the box and tell us what we really want to know -- how much blood is there?

God of War 3 is a 'must-have' - Sony [CVG]

Having played the demo, it's gonna be good. But I don't if it's gonna be that good.

Oh wow. Just...wow. You know what she makes this game sound like? Every other God of War game. Not that I'm complaining but it's hard to be unique when you're doing the same thing for the third time.

I Love gow, but didn't care too much for the e3 demo. My hope is the demo is relatively old and was "a work in progress". I'm currently finishing gow 2. Also I think the dantes inferno demo was more enjoyable than the gow 3 demo. Just an opinion though.

I only agree with the technology part, everything else doesn't seem so 'set apart'.

The whole Greek/Roman gods thing is pretty common to games these days and more recently, there seems to be attention given to it in RPG.

But Norse mythology is clearly the new hotness :P

No question about it, GoW3 will be awesome, but it follows the same gameplay as it has always done, so I don't think it will 'revolutionize' anything. But it will be a damn fun game!

Its going to be epic, no doubt. Though lets not pretend its going to be anything other than exactly the same as the rest of the series but with much prettier graphics (which is a good thing).

Yes, GOW3 is "set apart from other modern games" by the way that it plays exactly like its pre-modern predecessors.

Gah, Sony needs to STFU. I'll buy GOW3, but after playing Bayonetta and going back to the GOW3 demo again, it sure feels "been there, done that".

It's looking like a solid sequel, nothing more. It just makes me cringe when PS3 fanboys call games like Halo 3 more of the same, and then get all hyped about GOW3 - a game that exemplifies "more of the same, now in HD!" more than ANYTHING ELSE we've seen this gen.

Every big (mainly Playstation) game this generation is built up to be some spectacular festival of enjoyment, but by the time they actually get released I've already played something similar enough to remove that initial buzz for me. Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 were both excellent games, but somewhat dampened by everything else that happened in the years since they were announced. I can almost guarentee that I'm going to feel the same way about God of War 3 and Final Fantasy XIII too. (all these games have numbers on the end!)

Anyway, now I'm going to read over this blog multiple times and try to find the hidden anti-Sony points that are apparently in there.

It's going to be the same game as God of War 2 at it's core, with super pretty graphics. We all know this.
That doesn't matter because the first two God of War games were bloody solid and downright fun games, but anyone claiming there's going to be something "unique" about it just isn't true.
Still, this game looks bloody EPIC, and I can't wait for it to come out.

Also, God of War III is beyond comparison to other modern games, because GoW3 is set in the far far past while games like Modern Warfare 2 are set in the, well, modern age.

When does any AAA game NOT pretend to be a "next step" in gaming? Game A will only work on PS3's processor, Game B will only work with the 360's larger online community etc. Is this any worse than what Peter Molyneux does? This really should be nothing to get worked up over.

Then again, isn't there a level where the boss is also the landscape (not sure the best way to say say, you're running on the boss in the battle)? That could be pretty different.

Just finished the Collection (for some strange reason I never played them on my PS2) and now I am hyped as hell for GOW3.

Dunno if you saw the interview with N'gai Croal on hiphopgamer, but those guys were shown a recent build and they said it had NOTHING in common with the E3 demo. Graphic wise it would look like an early PS4 title. While that might be a BIT too much praise, I am still thrilled to see new gameplay. Think the embargo ends on Jan 18th. We'll see...

Stop all the speculation people! Not a single one of you actually knows how the game will play or innovate. But I must say that it's funny to read comments from people who have no idea what they are talking about. Lets wait and see how the game turns out. P.s the God of War demo is almost a year old, keep that in mind when comparing it's quality and mechanics to tasteless yet well executed game like Bayonetta.

Oh Sony. Your Hype Machine is so0 hilariously full of Nightmare Fuel and Narm that I honestly think you should let the games advertise themselves. Because trust me. Nobody gives a shit if God of War is groundbreaking. We just give a shit about whether we can tear a man's arm off and beat them to death with it.

Still, I have no doubt that the game will be a truly terrific experience. The demo is loads of fun and looks fantastic and that was from June. If you like action games, you'll like this. There's no need for the hate.

Hah okay I just reread what I just said and it makes no sense. I'm just trying to get at that bayonetta is an awesome game but it as well lacks innovation and for al you ps3 hating bayonetta the na version isn't all that bad runs a lot better then the demo havnt had any framerate issues as of yet. But I'm to busy playing darksiders instead damn what a good game

I'm not saying that Bayonetta is any more or less mature than the God Of War series, but the difference is that Bayonetta doesn't take itself too seriously, while David Jaffe probably has Kratos posters up in his office to get himself pumped while he works.
By which I mean it takes itself hella-seriously.
Which is not to say that I will not be buying the piss out of this game when it comes out.

It's a sequel to a sequel, so naturally we don't want it to be completely original. We played the last 3 god of war games because they were all pretty much the same fun game with little tweaks and additions and a continuing story. Hopefully the game will keep its working formula and improve and build on things instead throwing the formula away and saying screw you to the people who liked it >_> Assassin's Creed 2

i am extremely wanting this game after playing the collection and e3 demo. the games left me feeling awesome.

and Jim hates the ps3 so much he got rid of his wii and eventually got a ps3 that he logged many hours of kz2 on and a few hours of demons souls and is fervently waiting on heavy rain and gow3. because he absolutely hates the fuckin machine like a man. did i mention he also has/had a pspgo? because he so hates it that much.

and if he is preferential to a certain console, is that against the law? can he not have his favorites too or is that just not right in the world?

It won't be the 2nd coming of Christ as that was so 2000 years ago, it's gonna be the motherfucking 3rd coming of Christ with beer and womens wrapped up in a pitta bread in a reggae reggae chicken sandwich from subway drowned in awesomesauce cooked by Bruce Lee himself!

I'm not here to say the game sucks because I only own a 360(that's fanboyism).

GOW has always been a rock solid action game.

However if the hype machine is to continue at this pace, by March, GOW III will cure cancer, fix the global economy, and have a Duke Nukem Forever demo packaged within.

Seriously, Sony. Pace yourselves. It's going to sell a bazillion copies without all the PR BS.

@jymkata, "David Jaffe probably has Kratos posters up in his office to get himself pumped while he works."

Last I heard Jaffe has not been not involved in GOW3 one iota. Unless I missed an update somewhere along the line, but word on the street was he left the company to do his own thing. Remember the PSN title Calling All Cars? That was him. I think he also was behind the PS2 port of Twisted Metal Head On if I recall. Those were just pit stops on the way to his next big title was the impression I got from the interview, but it's been awhile since I read it so I apologize for any inaccuracies.

...just sayin'... if you're gonna name drop...
