After far too many hours of playing Demon's Souls, I know what it's like to want to throw a PS3 at my television, but Sony Australia has actually gone and done it. As part of a big new giveaway that's soon to be announced, Sony had a PS3 affixed to some sort of modern day supercatapult and had the machine flung at top speed into the face of a Bravia.
It's been noted that, while the TV caved in and shattered like a child with brittle bone disease, the PS3 itself appears to be unharmed by the ordeal. I would have liked for Sony to see if it could still switch on and play videogames afterwards, but it's good to know that I could bash a man's head open with my machine and not have it incur any superficial damage to my precious machine.
Seriously though Sony, if you want to waste Bravia TVs, then just give one to me.

Meet the rest of the team
so - I guess Sony was feeling left out on all those Nintendo folks who flung their Wii remotes at their screens... hooray Sony! Now you too are part of the LCD Destructo Team! :)
PS3s are tough as hell (at least mine is.)
I got in a car accident, where my car flipped 3 times, totaling the car. I had my PS3 in the backseat; when I got out and started looking at things, it had been thrown onto the front seat floorboard.
After dealing with the police and insurance company, I went home and plugged my PS3 in and to my surprise not only did it work, I hadn't lost any data.
As much as I am trying to figure out what to do with my PS3 doorstop now that I have HDTV channels and HD movies on demmand (so no more bluray rentals required), I still don't think this woll be one thing to use it for. I just love my 52" Samsung HDTV too much.
Perhaps I can instead throw it out an open window in the hopes of hitting a hoody/hoodie (sp?) instead!
While it's KINDA annoying to me to see a big corporation just wasting stuff for a promotion during a recession, I think I'm more overwhelmed by how cool this looks!!! crash & splosions = cool!!!
Please, it was probably a whole lot cheaper to do this than to hire one big time actor to endorse their product. Not to mention this is infinitely cooler.
Coolest PS3 commercial since the original white room ones.
I loved the originals. They had style. They didn't show any features of the PS3, but they had this style that said "We don't really need to". Instead, they filled their 30 second time slots with something cool like the PS3 erupting into black goo that makes cool shapes or solving a rubiks cube at the speed of light
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Such a waste.
I need my own Discovery Channel show, so I can do things like this for a living.
Honestly though I thought that was a pretty cool advert.
I concur. Watching wasted money and equipment makes me a very sad Shadokat.
confirmed
Apparently I'm Captain Planet, too. That sounded dumb.

IT ONLY DOES: crashing into HD TVs
PS3 now 299

So they filmed one for a contest, big deal.
You'd probably flip out if you see what they do to cars.
PS3: it just survives anything.

Just in case. For the sake of Science!
I bet neither the TV or the PS3 works after.
What is the point of this footage again from Sony PR apart from to piss people off?
It's not the hard drive, but the 60GB had the highest mass of any unit. It contained the most hardware.

Ps3 tough as fuck.
