Out of all three console powers, no company has as much scope for cross-platform connectivity as Sony. The company has a whole range of hardware that it could link to the PS3, and the new Sony Ericsson Aino proves it. Sony is launching a new "Communications Entertainment" initiative with Aino as the vanguard. It's a phone that lets you screw around with your PS3 using science.
Aino will allow users to access and control their PS3 media content via the handset's own XMB. The phone can communicate with the PlayStation 3 via Wi-Fi or 3G, and users will also be able to get into the PlayStation Store and chat to friends via the PSN. What's more, you could use Aino to buy and download a PSN game so that it's ready to play whenever you get home.
No word on the price yet, so expect it to cost eight thousand dollars.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
In Linux's defense, running arcade games on your TV is pretty damn cool, from what I hear.
If you travel a lot though I can see this as being priceless. Just remote in with your PSP + composite adapter and blamo your media collection on the go
I actually do care. I'm ready for a new phone and why not pick up this one with some cool extra features? I think every cool extra thing is win.
But noooo Takeshi you should know that all extras implemented in a device made by Sony are auto-fail.
Jesus Christ.
@takeshi
Save a tad more (because this cellphone looks expensive, but I may be wrong here) and buy a iPhone, trust me, it's worth it!
@ GameBrahma - Subjectively speaking, I don't need the amount of technology Sony is offering, I wouldn't use it to it's fullest potential, and I am certainly not buying such technologies for the high prices Sony is becoming known for if I don't have a need for many of the feature that contributes to the sky high prices.
Over here almost ever good deal entices a free phone. So yeah, I don't have to save up that much, only pay a monthly fee.
Also your PS3 doesn't even have to be turned on the whole time. You can get it out of stand-by over the internet. Really, check it out it's pretty cool the way it works. Which means I can put FF7 in the PS3. Turn it off (standby) then go to work. Turn my PSP on and play FF7 via the internet on my PS3. Which is really cool. Even better with so many PS1 Classics in the store. I don't even have to pop the disc in anymore.
But can you turn off your PS3 after you're done playing? (by the internet)
Yup, you can remotely shut your PS3 off when you're all done.
You just enable Remote Play on the PS3, keep it connected to your router, and either the wired or wireless part of the console will remain active. Turn it on through the PSP (or this phone) and just select to shut it off when you disconnect.
Yeah, I think you can. I actually don't know for sure. But otherwise you can use it's power-save setting to switch off automatically after a certain period of time. So one way or the other you can turn it off.
Takeshi, what will people complain about if they can't bitch about the price point anymore?? They're grasping at straws now, let them have their fun. I mean their moaning about the loss of Linux, that's how sad they've become. These phones won't be able to play PS2 games either so already we should be boycotting it anyways. :P
AMEN!
But about the phone, yeah I'm in the same boat as you. My Sony Ericsson has served me very well too. In fact I will never ever get one made another company.
Hope it's on a 3G network that doesn't suck.
I wonder how people play games on their iPhone without a controller...
you can turn on and turn of the ps3 via remote play.
by itself it's not that great, but It is VERY usefull and cool feature for people who use their ps3 as their media hub...
Publish all of your movies, tv shows, anime, music, pictures, Hulu, various tv station websites like comedy central all on your ps3 via ps3 media server and play on and then have access to ALL of that via remote play on your phone.
Also, the ps3 web browser is pretty good and should also be accessable over remote play.
If you cant tell, i'm a big ps3 media server and play-on user and am looking forward to picking up this phone.
hmm, I'll have to play with it more- my ps3 is my media hub and I have a psp 1k and 2k, thing is that it is so rare that I can find a wifi hotspot when I am out that is open- they are all locked down- hence we need metro coverage
