More and more people are getting their hands on the PlayStation Vita, whether it's an import or Western unit. There's no doubt in my mind that a lot of users are trying to do the exact same thing I'm going to do as soon as I get one -- attempt to load all my old PSP games immediately.
Well, have no fear, Sony is here! In the form of a new official guide, Sony helps you step by step; day by day. The two basic methods to play PSP games on your Vita are to either download them directly from the Vita's PlayStation Storefront (which also allows access to your download history), or to connect your Vita directly to your PS3 using the included USB cable and use the PS Vita's Content Manager.
If your favorite PSP game is not on the currently 275 strong list, don't fret. As Sony states: "Don’t worry if you don’t see your favorite title here now; more PSP titles will be made available for PS Vita play in the coming weeks. We’ll keep this list current and let you know when updates are made."

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
In the US, as long as you abide by Sony's device restrictions, and you have downloaded the game on the PSN and not trying to convert a UMD, you're fine.
Comment of the week.
I saw the very first part of your comment(ending at c-) in the preview you get for hovering over an article and actually thought Sony had made a device to transfer your UMDs. I was pretty esthetic and rushed over to the site. I need to get more sleep :D
But I have my old PSP I'll just backup my games myself
Going to try that out. BRB!
It's not working and I already burned the UMD's!!
Damn you Lord Hirai, You dark and hungry God!!
You would just buy the PSP games on the Vita's store and download them.
@Tha_Meat
No, they haven't said anything about being able to do it. I hope it's added eventually.
This is why is Sony has become $ony.
Umds had to go, but at least you can still play the damn games. It sucks but there wasn't much of a way around it.
Keep your psp if you want to play your discs.
Or don't buy a Vita. Who cares? Stop bitching about features that aren't essential to playing Vita games on a Vita.
@Rammstein: I'm pretty sure you were "Sony product = no buy" from the very start.
While the lack of some PSP games is not a deal breaker for me, I can easily see why people want it. Up-scaling, convenience, and best of all, you can map buttons to the Vita's second analog stick - making games like Ape Escape PSP and MGS: Peace Walker that much more enjoyable.
For a lot of PSP games, it's almost like the way it's meant to be played.
Also, might as well dl them (to have them playable) across any VITA/PSP w/ no fussing with old formats.
See, I could see that, but not only do both of those sound like inane bitching, the problem here isn't a lack of ability, it's a lack of effort on Sony's part. Regardless of your opinion on the UMD transfer, it does exist. There's a program for it in Japan, that is missing in America with no explanation. That's the real problem here. Plus, the download system wasn't introduced until later in the system's life, so it's kind of frustrating to have backwards compatibility on all these games we like and have and have to buy them again when we could just transfer them with a system we aren't offered.
Pretty sure they're going to release it individually to "maximize brand awareness" and generally be cocks about the whole thing.
So where the fuck is this list? I'd like to see it please.
can't wait to see Metal Gear Acid games, Crisis Core and others!!!!
I linked it twice in the article :D
