Sony confirms UK prices for new PS3 and PSP 3000 photo

Yesterday, Sony revealed a new SKU for each of its current gen products with a 160GB PlayStation 3 and the overhauled PSP 3000 with a superior screen and built-in microphone. Today, we now know what Brits can expect to pay for these products. Dig deep, children.

The new PS3 has an RRP of £339.99 and is scheduled to hit store shelves on October 31st, while Sony is recommending £149.99 for the PSP 3000. The PSP Slim retails for £129.99 in GameStation, just to give you an idea of the cost jump.

I have an old school PSP with an aggravating thing underneath the screen that distracts me, and I've been planning to swap it for a Slim model. With the PSP 3000 heading our way, I must confess I'm tempted to hold out. That said, they better have found a way to stop crap getting under the screen because it drives me insane.

Get a carrying/protection case and screen-guard!

Also, pricejumps are shitty.

why not open the psp and clean the inside of the screen. It isn't very hard...

@VashTS -- usually that results in MORE aggravating things under the screen unless you're working in a clean room.

Very correct, the screen practically attracts dust.

AFAIK these psp packs contain a 4GB memory stick and a voucher for everyday shooter

@Linuxguy - There are supposed to be several game packs with the silver PSP, 1GB stick, and a UMD for a game and/or movie.

The 4GB stick + voucher comes with the Piano Black PSPs.

@Arttemis: then why the hell this article gives the impression that a barebones psp3000 will cost 149 quid?

I can't imagine that will be the US price converted- I have seen a lot of quotes at $199 for the psp 3k and £149 comes to $281- people won't pay that, it is about what the first fat was on launch

@Whormongr - The US price was already announced yesterday. Jim linked it in the article: $170 stand alone or $200 in any of the different bundles.

This gives me the idea that I might go out and trade my fatty for a 2000.

I don't know, Jim. The constant upgrades of PS3 hard drive seem like a bad excuse to keep the price high. If it was £300, I'd consider investing, £340-350 is pushing it a bit.

As for the PSP, £150?? Its no wonder PSP has trouble selling. For the time its been out, the original should be going for £70-80. Why aren't Sony plugging that too?

Jim,

Crack that sucker open and clean out the screen! I opened mine to mod the button and cleaned it out while I was at it. It's looked and worked great ever since.

The original PSP and original PS3 are still the best versions. Unless this 3rd PSP model has all the "piratability" of the original or close.

Don't listen to DinnertimeNinja, I bet if you open it loads of dust and crap will fly towards the staticy screen and that will drive you even more crazy. That happened to my mobile phone when I tried it.

I want a PSP but yes, £150 is stupid expensive, I too was hoping for it to be £70-£80ish by now. Who cares about the technology in it, it's not as good as the DS in terms of games and popularity so it should be cheaper than the DS by now. If it costs more to make, stop upgrading it Sony, you fools. Stick to a model and focus on making it cheaper to make.

Are Sony trying to make up for lost time when it comes to the 360's amount of SKU's? It's getting crazy, this generation of consoles has just been filled with wave after wave of revised models forcing gamers to upgrade every 6 months if they want the best.

I want to be in the console market, not the PC market.

Nintendo's been doing it for years. Remember the Gameboy/Gameboy Pocket/Gameboy Color? Remember the Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP, Gameboy Micro, Gameboy Advance SP Lite? Remember the DS and the DS lite? This is nothing new.

I do need/want a new PSP so I think I'll hold out for this version even if it does cost more.
I dont really care that it costs more and that all the new stuff may hurt battery life by as much as 20% as I feel that it's still a great bit of kit (as long as I can put NOT custom firmware on it)
