Sony confirmed as Killzone fanboys, thinks game will fare better than MGS4 photo

(Disclaimer: Article may or may not be an excuse to post more silly Killzone headers)

Sony is certainly hoping that orange-eyed FPS Killzone 2 will make them some bank this year, and the promotion wheels are starting to turn with ever-increasing speed. The publisher has recently made an optimistic claim, suggesting that its Space Nazi romp will do better than last year's high profile exclusive, Metal Gear Solid 4. Those bastards.

"It would be a lie to say Sony has not invested heavily in Killzone 2 and each individual at Guerrilla games has worked even harder to satisfy any expectations kept by the company and their loyal community," said a Sony rep, somehow thinking that we're not used to a publisher lying. "I do see the game breaking a barrier with a huge variety of groups and expect it to see sales as good as Metal Gear Solid 4 if not beyond it."

Naturally, Sony was wise not to bet against its most successful exclusive, Haze, which so far has sold over 780,000,000 copies in Paraguai alone, with a 110% Metacritic rating and a fresh scent of lemons in every box. Aaaah, citrus fresh!

Didn't they said the same thing about Resistance 2?

Ehm, this game looks fan-f'in-tastic I played the preview, final version just came saturday. Its a FPS like Call Of Duty except it looks great and it plays divine. Can`t believe this is from Amsterdam...

If I wanted to play Over-rated FPS games,I'd trade my PS3 in for a console with an abundance of piss poo FPS games, Like the 360.

Killzone 2 will be entertaining for 20 minutes. Then it'll be, OK, I'm accustomed to the great graphics, how much generic gameplay left till I'm done.

@ Frrekdeman,

Everyone in Amsterdam has red-eye... It makes perfect sense.

I am gonna explode all over this game.

JIM, MORE OF THESE CAPTIONS!! PLEEEASE!

You should do some kind of competition for photo captions. That would be great. Have a word Jim.

@ aurain. Ok, let me put it this way, if your not buying this, trade in your PS3 anyway. Or wait another 2 years for Bioshock 2. Killzone 2 is worth it, check it out before ya bash it.

As for the red-eye, we ain`t smokin' weed and bangin' hookers because its legal

That's encouraging. Though I don't expect this game to play better than CoD4, the gameplay videos held my interest enough to pass on Resistance. To be honest Resistance never really interested me that much anyway, I want a strong single player game to go with my Co-op and multiplayer.

I don`t think it will beat COD 4 in the amazement or rush factor, but it`ll surprise you at least. We actually had Resistance 2 and the Killzone 2 preview-comparison. Resistance 2 sucked in general, but compared to Killzone 2 big-time.

I hope it turns out ok, I played the first and it was mediocre at best. I can't wait to see the graphics, the target video from a few years back was sick as hell, and then I recently saw an early build that had gfx on par w/ all the current console FPSes. Hopefully with the dev time they've had they can get a little closer to the video. Oh, and make the gameplay the antithesis of the first KZs.

Sony Backing a game?

The last time I witnessed that was an advert for Little Big Planet, on Sky Sports.

Definitely a demographic strong point for that kind of game.

@Aurain:

Piss poor FPS on the 360? Like what? Last time I checked both 360 and PS3 had pretty much the same stuff minus Halo 3 that according to Metacritic isnt exactly piss poor.

Also, jaded person are you aint ya? I think is not about games and more about Zoloft. Just sayin'.

""You gonna get raped""?

Why is this considered funny? While I respect and even value some of Jim's contributions to Destructoid, why this? It's just ugly and utterly puerile.

What 0bshaky said. Also Aurian have you actually played the full version from start to finish yet, or are you just acting downtrodden and depressed for no reason? I still find it funny how anyone can have such strong feelings towards something and has never seen it first hand.

From what I've heard and read everywhere so far was that people who got in the beta, or played the game within the past month or 2 had a blast playing it. And these aren't people from Sony or Guerilla exclusive sites or their PR people, or fanboys. These are every day people like some who post here, and a few of my friends as well. That's not to say someone won't like the game, but ffs at least experience it first before you shit on it.

@ Cotton McKnight

I'm with you sir. I don't know why R2 gets bashed on so much. Sure its not breaking down the walls of innovation but the game is fun nonetheless.

However, back on topic. If the final KZ2 is as fun as its MP beta, then the game deserves to do well and I personally found it just as entertaining as COD so HA!.

If you should criticize anybody, it's Guerrilla for drawing a Helghast that totally looks like he's about to rape someone.

I would say that if it were marketed properly, Killzone 2 has all the mainstream appeal that it needs to outsell MGS4. MGS games don't have nearly as much mainstream appeal as it needs to sell tremendously.

@ Jim, when I look at a Helghast Solider i don't think that he looks like hes gonna rape someone. I dunno I think they look like space marines wearing futuristic gas masks and Nazi-style uniform. But going back to the "topic" of this post, If this game is advertised aggressively, which MGS4 really was not then it will sell more. Ive no one knows about this game (which I find a bit hard to believe, but I cant speak for everyone) then people wont both picking it up if they aren't shown how AMAZING the game can be.

I'm almost positive that there was this same build-up for the first KZ, and we all know how that turned out. Not to mention that Guerilla's other game (You know, the Vietnam one) wasn't too great either according to reviews. I'm not saying it'll suck, but I've played the first KZ and, while I thought it was fun, I wasn't terribly impressed, nor was I having a whole lot of fun.

Until Guerilla can prove they can make a good game, I'm not going to get all gaga over KZ2.
