Cut it down to $200,000 per year or GTFO.
As others have said, I really don't see any reason for him to step down. He manages the overall direction, not specifics like security on the PSN network.

Sony CEO says brand's improving, takes 16% pay cut
Sony CEO Howard Stringer has stated that perception of his company's brand is improving after suffering several damaging blows to its reputation. He has also revealed that he's been eating a 16% pay cut as part of the rebuilding process. "Our brand perception, you'll be happy to know, is clearly improving again," he told shareholders. "My foremost responsibility to the board and all of you is to further advance the transformation process, firmly establish Sony's position as a global product, content and service leader in the networked digital era and ensure our continued development and growth." Stringer says this as he faces pressure to step down as CEO. His leadership of Sony has been marred by several unfortunate events and his reassurances may not be enough to save him. Did you know? Legacy Comments (will be imported soon)The dude is still getting paid pretty well, I'm sure. And I doubt his annual bonuses, benefits and perks have been affected at all. That 16% paycut is probably more than 98% of all working Americans make in one year.
Cut it down to $200,000 per year or GTFO. I've never really liked Stringer, but I don't see that as a reason to step down. Not just yet anyway. And to clarify, there was a SINGLE shareholder that called for Stringer's resignation. It's not a general consensus from what I've read. that 16% paycut is more than most americans will see in there life, but his job is to make the shareholders happy and having one unhappy shareholder really won't make him step down anytime soon. If the shareholders are really unhappy with the way he is running the company and the board realizes they may lose more than just some good PR then they will push to have him step down until then i really don't care what he says because i'm not a sony shareholder and it really doesn't help me. Sure he still makes a hell of a lot of money, but it proves Stringer, unlike many CEOs, isn't a totally self-serving dick. It's a symbolic gesture. Sort of a mea culpa display. Not sure it's going to satisfy anyone, but yeah. ... I would love to see more CEO's take a pay cut when things go bad for the company they are hired to manage. It shows some form of personal investment in the company's success or failure rather than the usual "take the money and run" attitude of so many CEO's out there.
As others have said, I really don't see any reason for him to step down. He manages the overall direction, not specifics like security on the PSN network. I make six figures, and even I can say with confidence that his pay cut is still probably more than I take home annually. Try working for my wages, Stringer! Are there really places in the world where you need more than like 100,000 dollars to live adequately? If this were under other, more noble conditions (i.e. not trying to save his own job), I'd applaud this man's act as it's not common to see CEOs and other company VIPs make sacrifices that affect themselves instead of shoving off the burden to their workers. As the situation is, however... Eh. It's kind of a sad testament to how ridiculously self-indulgent corporate culture has become when there's reason to rejoice/give out praise that a high-ranking executive is actually taking on ANY kind of penalty when things go bad on his watch. 3:20 PM on 06.29.2011 Sony CEO says brand's improving, takes 16% pay cutSony CEO Howard Stringer has stated that perception of his company's brand is improving after suffering several damaging blows to its reputation.
