Sony bullsh*t: PSPgo was a 'test' photo

The PSPgo was an ill-advised, expensive, worthless waste of space. This is scientific, objective fact that can be proven in any court of law. But apparently it's alright, because it was just a test. In fact, even though the PSPgo fell flat on its stupid face in America, Sony has employed its amazing skill at twisting reality to claim that this "test" was a sales success.

"It was introduced in a mature lifecycle to learn more about what the consumer wanted and we've definitely learnt a lot," says SCEE president Andrew House. "Is that measured by success in sales? I don't think it is.

"One of the reasons we launched PSPgo was to understand where that consumer behavior was going. We were getting signals from consumers that this was the kind of device that they wanted. But we need to recognise that consumers like their packaged media library."

So let me get this straight... in order to find out what consumers wanted, Sony didn't ask them, but instead released an expensive test product onto the market without warning, without real support, and without reasons to buy it, all with a self-admitted prediction that consumers wanted packaged goods as opposed to digital games. And yet Sony executives can still conduct interviews with a straight face.

Amazing.

This was a failure.
I'm making a note here: COSTLY TEST

Been telling Sony for years what I want... Oddly they don't seem to be listening. Fortunately my "patched" PSP first gen is still kicking butt. If Sony embraced home brew development there might be more games available for the system by now. I'm sure they look at iTunes daily and wheep.

Sounds like an expensive test..
But the device itself isn't all that bad, it's just poorly supported.
The price should be lower, and every game should be available at launch.
People who already owns a couple of PSP games couldn't play them, and Sony 'ignored' them.

If it had a better price, and every game was available on PSN, I would so get one. Hope Sony has learned much from this 'test'.

You mean I paid $250 for a test?

Oh wait, no I didn't.

So a much cheaper survey couldn't have done that then?

What I took from this is that the psp2 will have some kind of physical media and it won't be download only. But if the go would of sold well we would of had a download only psp2.

This is like in the playground when a kid trips and falls face first in the sande and then insists he did it on purpose. It just made everyone laugh at him even more.

Sorry Jim, all I read was "blah blah blah biased Sony article, blah blah." Your stream of thought obviosly is " I didn't like the PSPgo, so that means NO ONE DID!" Get your head out of your ass and write a real article for once.

If I'd bought a PSP Go, and I didn't because I have a modicum of common sense, then I'd be insulted right now. That is, if I could read Destructoid in a mental institute.

Even if this was true, which it's fucking not, why would you EVER admit that you're running "tests" at the expense of your consumer base???

I'm sure everyone who actually did buy a Go would be pleased to know that they were unwitting guinea pigs in some test. Yeah, that's one way to build trust with your consumer.

What a twist!
Still, as I said shortly after Go's launch, hopefully Sony has learned a few -major- things from this and will lead to a much more thought-out portable system.
Like you, I was thinking all the good this could have done for digital distributed games at first, but then it all came slapping across my face as the flaws became more apparent [/b]before[/b] it launched.
It definitely made me think about what my gaming peers want, but, then, I'm not a major company.

Sony could have done a survey.

A survey that costed less than $250.

I went to see Iron Man 2 yesterday at the movie theater, they had a machine out front where you have to stack blocks to try and when prizes, they had a PSP on the lower prizes right behind a crappy off brand MP3 player.

$40 is just way too much for the average PSP game. The download-only platform can work, just look at the iPhone and every other mobile handset, but the prices are too much and the selection too bare.

The concept would have worked if they offered something good. Like converting UMD to digital, free games at launch, less expensive than a 3000, sales on digital titles .........

Really, there's a million things they could have done.

Its not so much that I don't want digital games, I just want the option of physical media if and when the download versions appear to be too large.

I mean, damn that MGS Portable Ops package eats two gigs. I'd rather just have the first game and be done with it.

Jim bought it because he needed it to do his job properly. There's a difference between that and someone who bought it just to play it.

Weren't they saying it was only going to be a test from the get go? I thought they did, that's why I never really paid it much attention. Not that I'm in the "It was a flop," camp. I just remember reading that and assuming that was their way of saying they weren't taking it very seriously.

then again, im the kind of gamer who has no interest in any form of hand held gaming.
whether it be my old rotting first release psp that i no longer use. or games on cell phones etc.

im just never sitting somewhere, thats not near my tv, that i feel like i need to play a game. if im out, im out to do stuff, not to play games in public. if im traveling, im driving and cant play games. i dont live near cities(human zoos) and dont use public transportation so i dont have time to waste.

People want packaged media, yet people love the DRM riddled, ultra-restrictive iPhone's and iPad's that are digital only.

There's some contradiction.

And PspGo would sell like warm cakes (not hot, but..) if it had a second analogue button, and was 100usd cheaper.

The PSP Go is terrible.

How can Drachula NOT realize that? It's actually a downgrade from the 2000-3000.

-The new cables/items are proprietary, meaning none of your old USB stuff works
-UMDs do not work, meaning if you find a cheap deal for a used $2 UMD you want, TOO BAD! You have to pay $20 plus on the PSN
-More expensive - as in, a couple hundred dollars more expensive if you find a good $100 or less deal on a 2000
-No homebrew or custom UI (if you choose to back up your games legally)
-Analog stick is near the dpad - worse controls

I love my PSP-2000, but the Go? Terrible. It has zero advantages, and costs more. It's consumer 101.

That's very true. Sony maybe be big in the bullshit department, but so it everyone else. Remember when Microsoft said that the Red Ring is a thing of the past? Two of my friends' 360s broke that week, one of which was a brand new Elite.

Oh, and Nintendo saying that gamers don't care about online. I guess everyone flings the bullshit in this industry,.
