Sony and Nintendo sued over wireless use photo

Some little turd company named Wall Wireless LLC (great name, guys) is suing gaming giants Sony and Nintendo as well as gaming wannabe Nokia over wireless use in their devices. Apparently these three have infringed on U.S. patent 6,640,086, named "Method and Apparatus for Creating and Distributing Real-Time Interactive Media Content Through Wireless Communication Networks and the Internet."

They're calling out the PSP, DS, and Nokia's hipper phones, and name certain online games like Mario Kart DS and WipeOut Pulse. It seems that all three were notified as early as October 2008. I'm sure all three saw it and blew it off like I do junk mail.

Wall is seeking permanent injunction, damages, costs, expenses, fees, and more, says Edge.

From the complaint:

As a result of Defendants’ infringement of the ‘086 patent, Wall Wireless has suffered monetary damages that are compensable ... by no less than a reasonable royalty

You almost can't blame these guys, though.

This patent system is clearly flawed, and doesn't, I don't know EVERY COMPUTER IN EXISTENCE infringe on it? you can't patent something as ambiguous as that.

It makes me angry.

if you look at the patent it's actually for karaoke-like messages mainly for cellphones...it says that it could apply to computers and pda's but really I don't see how this relates to mario kart or wipeout...I really hope these guys get their asses handed to them

When properly used, the patent system is wonderful for protecting valuable and useful IP.

The company that employs me has at least a dozen technology patents and two or three that we've had to take action on.

So yet another company that filed horrifically ambiguous patents to sue the crap out of people for money instead of actually..patenting something of their own that's original and useful?

When the hell are judges going to wake up to this blatant abuse of the patent system?

Ah yes, patients, what a joke this silly little thing is. You can't blame someone who obviously can't get a business to work and needs money to sue someone else. On a lighter note, I'm off to patient my idea for an inflatable solar powered veichle that has wheels and a motor of some sort.

Whoever has the patent on "stupid" and "douchebag" should sue Wall Wireless LLC

I have a cell phone. It uses wireless to transmit Real-Time Interactive Media Content... such as caller ID. It's interactive because I have to push a button on the phone to use it.

@TrailerParkJesus: Won't work. That has to be the oldest prior art in the universe.
