Sony adds force feedback to Gran Turismo HD Concept photo

Well well, look who up and decided that rumble/force feedback was good idea after all. Sony has sent word that not only are they updating Gran Turismo HD on the PlayStation 3 for free with new features, but they're also adding force feedback compatibility. Check out the details on this:

Gran Turismo HD Concept v. 1.2 (free update): Developed by Polyphony Digital, Gran Turismo HD Concept delivers an unparalleled racing experience in full HD 1080p* resolution with next-generation graphics and physics. Race ten cars from worldwide manufacturers, including the Gran Turismo debut of Ferrari. This updated version enables you to view the Top 10 worldwide rankings for each car and mode. Also, Gran Turismo HD Concept now is fully compatible with force feedback via Logitech®'s Driving Force, Driving Force Pro, and Driving Force EX steering wheels.

How long do you think it'll be before we see that SEVENAXIS with rumble? I give it a year, at the most. More important PlayStation Store news after the jump, including GTA IV news.

Sony are like Elvis. Think about it.

I think for now they are just referring to the steering wheels having rumble and force feedback. I think it would be a little tough to put force feedback into a sevenaxis controller, even though that sounds cool.

Awesome to also see the GTA IV trailer up on the PS store.

Hypocrites.

"Rumble is last gen".

Fuck you and your stupid PR machine.

If a controller sold with the PS3 includes the rumble, everyone who bought one is fucked proper.

@ugly phil,
What stage of Elvis's life? The successful stage or the fat bloated and on drugs stage? Or are you saying that Sony was successful at one point and now they are fat and bloated and on drugs? Think about it.

Aww, SWEET!

Does it come with a rumble motor to install in my SIXAXIS?

Ooo! Maybe it can use the one in my phone via Bluetooth! Yeah! That's the ticket!

*waiting patiently for Sony to make up its damn mind before making another move*

It is actually ignorant and hypocritical of you to say all of Sony are hypocrites when just ONE person said "Rumble is last gen" Did every Sony PR person say this or just ONE? I think it was just ONE. Correct me if I am wrong.

Rumble being last gen was PR damage control... Obviously they wanted it but couldn't because of the lew suit. They fully intend to put it back in now that an agreement is reached. It will just take time to negotiate a contract and engineer and produce a new controller. For now I'm waiting to purchase a new SIXAXIS until something is siad about rumble.

Phil Harrison has already said, hey we were in litigation what did you expect me to say... honest answer to what we knew was why they weren't embracing rumble last year

Nate,
haha, i wasted a few precious seconds of your life making you think about something irrelevant :p

That was what I meant, yes, they started off small and tallented, went through great success with the PS2, the ended up fat and loud. And on drugs.

all i want from this game is good online, more cars, more customization, better graphics. As long as they do that while keeping the mechanics of the old game then i will be one happy camper:p

Psh, rumble would never work with a wheel; the vibrations would interfere. Wait a minute...

They still shouldn't have made such a stupid statement. It was like a dumb high school kid trying to save face, because he can't afford, oh say, a PS3. "Oh, I didn't really want it. It sucks. All the lame kids use it." Sony has always had problems with bullshitting the public instead of just being open and honest.

I promise you, they would win a lot more fans if they would just shoot straight and say things like, "It would be ideal to include rumble functionality with our SIXAXIS controllers, but I'm afraid that we are still legally unable to provide this to our consumers, at this time." Sign me up, Phil.

It may be small news about GT. But any news about GT is like a BJ to me. I love my GT!

Althought I'm not a huge fan of rumble in a racing game on a controller it is essential for a forcefeed back steering wheel.

I disagree with Nate, if only because PR people aren't just hired on and then thrown to the wolves with nothing to go on. I doubt that he'd make the claim that Sony decided to leave rumble out of the newest incarnation of their PSX controller if they didn't put the idea into his head beforehand. And while that doesn't implicate the entirety of the company as being douches who say whatever they need to in order to pass off what are generally accepted as bad ideas as the opposite, you have to wonder just the same. Especially given how regularly promises were made leading up to the PS3 launch, only to be broken and spun as something positive.

Really though, it's just a big 'ole meh for me. I really think that all this shuffling about reversing decisions implies that they weren't quite as ready to launch this thing as they maybe should have been.

Not that this is what's happened here. Adding rumble support for driving wheels used to play a demo doesn't imply a reversal of decision, unless it was earlier stated that the GT demo never would support rumble at all.

The score in that pic was obviously photoshopped, that score is not possible, especially with that car!!!
