Well this will get them some backlash from the ninty community. I've only used the 3DS once with the 3D on pilotwings, to be truthful it kinda hurt my eyes :s
Sure, in Sony they only add 3D when it is essential... that is some pretty bullshit. The problem with 3DS is NOT the 3D, but the lack of games. That was also the problem of PSP, so this sony guy should be able to recognise this thing quite fast.
The 3D works just fine, and seems to actually INCREASE the graphic quality of most games I have played.
Most of the people who comment on the 3ds and all its features in a negative light never seem to be speaking from actual experience, but from prejeduce based hear-say.

Yeah, I demoed the 3DS at Gamestop and the game was Dead or Alive: Dimensions. It was OKAY, nothing spectacular or mindblowing like Avatar in 3D was (if you didn't see Avatar in 3D, it was pretty amazing). That was also my first experience with a Nintendo 3DS and its 3D, I was not that impressed with it. I also realize that, that probably wasn't the best game to show off its 3D capabilities.
I know Sony's trying to get 3D to start becoming a standard feature as well, but glad to see they're not trying to shove it down people's throats like bad medicine.

I fucking loved the 3D in Ocarina, I kind of think it is the only way to make handheld games as impressive as home console ones.
considering that they're slapping 3D on their games left and right just to sell their shitty and overpriced 3D TVs this comment ends up being sad hypocritical joke.

The 3D in the 3DS was not impressive to me (and I have used one) so as a selling point it is not a very good one. And this Sony guy is right, the lack of compelling content is at the heart of the 3DS problems.
They are right. Visually I'm not comfortable playing the 3DS. I'm constantly trying to get a good look at the screen and it bothers me after a while. It's really cheap. I'm also sick of 3D by Nintendo AND Sony. Wish it would just go away already.
Considering I don't give a crap about 3d, this is the last thing I care about Sony criticizing. If they wanted to do some real mudslinging, they'd comment on how the vita is getting several triple A games at launch, meanwhile it took nintendo months after the 3ds's launch to put out a lazy port of a n64 game and charge 40 bucks for it.

There's also a rumor going around that Nintendo is developing a revision of the 3DS, that reduces the intensity of the 3DS a bit. Then again, this is just rumor and speculation, but it could be possibly true. I think the 3DS is a great concept, it just hasn't had a very great start so far. I suspect that we'll be seeing glasses-free 3D more in bigger screens, in the next couple of years as the technology develops along.
See I want a Vita really badly, but I would have liked it if it was able to do 3D.

@Lycan XIII: I think I went to this theatre called Cinemagic IMAX (I don't really remember as my friend's dad brought us and bought the tickets). In the first scene or so when they were floating around, the 3D REALLY came out and it was fantastic! There were other parts that worked well, but that really stuck with me as it was my first 3D experience without those Red and Blue glasses.
So why does sony push 3d to the PS3 if they do not believe in the technology. Sony is even releasing a special gaming 3d tv at gamestop with glasses. The logical next step is to take the glasses away and still have 3d. This is the first generation device of new 3d technology and for what it is it works very well. This is going to lead the way in glasses free 3d for the next wave of televisions.
No system ever has had a huge launch sales wise in the history of gaming.............

The Sony guy is right. The PS3's 3D performance is excellent. Just try Motorstorm Apocalypse for proof.
As for the 3DS, Glasses free technology is just not "totally" there yet. I'm sure it will improve with time,and 3DS game development should help with that. The major limiting factor is you can't move your head. If they solve that problem, Glasses Free will take over.

i saw Beyond the Labyrinth screens on 3DS and those looked pretty fuckin amazing and so much better than what can be seen in 2D which seems to make this gamy look jaggy(there's no jaggies on 3DS).

IMAX, yep, that explains it. That first scene is the only one that I really saw the 3D. Most movies, I think they just charge the additional $5 (Or at least that's what it is here in KY) and show the 2D version out of focus...

They also stated that with the motion controls 3D will not work as well because you'll be moving the handheld around. I think that's a smart decision. And i have played with a 3DS, while moving it around.. it sucks. Your eyes have to constantly adjust and it made me feel like I was drunk.

I personally didn't think I would always use the 3d effect, but have found that games don't feel the same played in 2d.
The only trouble I have found is in Nintendo's own games, (weird ghost doubling) which is a little upsetting.

Ohh... I really want to defend my beautiful 3DS now but gosh darnit, he's right. At least in my personal experience, but then again, I don't like any form of 3D.
This shit-slinging is just all part of the little dance these companies have done for years since the days of Game Gear vs Game Boy. If you take a step back and look objectively, PSP, Vita, DS and 3DS are all fucking awesome. They're incredibly advanced systems that play awesome video games, and you can carry them IN YOUR POCKET. Doesn't anyone else remember a time when we played with DIRT?!
Can't say I disagree with the guy; I've played my cousin's 3DS, and the wow factor wore off pretty quickly. I'm looking forward to the Vita. Mostly the LBP on Vita, really.

And personally, if Sony's so insistent that they only want to use 3D in the right time and place, they could have spent their time making Ico/SotC Vita compatible instead using all that extra development time to put them in 3D 90% of the buyers won't have a 3DTV for.
At least with 3DS everyone has access to the 3D if they wish to use it, plus its optional and can be turned off with a simple touch. So if you don't like the 3D, can't see it naturally or just want to be a stubborn ass and refuse to get used to it so you can make hipster tool posts - turn it off.

I get what he's saying: 3D shouldn't be forced into the equation, but Nintendo have already stated that publishers don't have to use the 3D feature anyway. Of course, for the first couple of years the majority will want to experiment with it (just as the sixasis was crowbarred into a lot of PS3 titles early on), but there's plenty of examples games on the Wii that don't use motion controls to show Nintendo and various third-parties understand when a certain feature isn't necessary.

for a company who was pushing this 3d tech so hard(for another chance to re re re re release their games, but in 3d scam) they sure seem to be waffling on the subject now.
your gimmicks and constant re-releases of hardware and games has gotten real old nintendo. people arnt falling for it as easily as they were before.

I agree Jim. I'm also getting sick and tired also of all these crap about 3D first with movies and now with gaming. Glad that Sony's not doing this with Vita and going with strong launch titles and not with gimmicks.

Personally I flick between the two in OoT, I've no real preference sometimes 2D looks better to me, other times 3D - there are visual benefits/negatives to both.
