Sonic Unleashed Wii screens: Like regular Sonic screens, but for Wii photo

We've seen plenty of gorgeous looking PS3 and Xbox 360 screens for Sonic Unleashed, but how is the Wii version looking? Worry not, the millions of you who are frantically pacing around the room, worrying about this tense subject, for we have a gallery of screens to set your nervous minds at rest.

The graphics are how you'd expect them to be -- they mimic the style of previous screens, and are just as colorful, but are a Hell of a lot more jaggy. The 360/PS3 screens look rather gorgeous -- these ones, not so much.

Ah well, most people have doomed this game to failure before it's even come out anyway, so I don't suppose it matters much. I still don't think the Werehog stuff is all that bad, you know. Since Sonic's 3D games have never handled the speed thing too well, I have a feeling that the action/platform elements of the Werehog stuff will probably prove to Unleashed's most successful element.

SO WHAT?! Come on, Jim! Don't tell me that you've reduced yourself to the level of the anti-Wii fanboys by putting graphics over gameplay. I have both a Wii and a PS3 (even thought my PC setup will smash them both into a pasty, red film), and I don't give a rat's ass about the graphics. If the game isn't any fun to begin with, then the graphics don't mean shit.

Playing Carnival Games in high-def wouldn't make it suck any less, and playing Ratchet and Clank in standard def wouldn't make it any less awesome. Those who think otherwise have their gaming priorities way out of whack.

John B:

Please find in the article where I said the graphics were more important than the gameplay. All I said was that the screenshots are not as gorgeous as the 360/PS3 ones. It's not a knock on the Wii, it's a statement of fact.

Please, calm down.

Sorry, Jim. Maybe it's because I grew up in the Atari 2600/C64 era. To me the emphasis on graphics is a major red herring even with all of the power that we currently have available to us. Sort of like ... "You're not a real PC gamer unless your screen resolution is at least 1280 x 1024! 800 x 600 is for the peasantry." So, this article seems to be a bit of "Captain Obvious".

I just get tired of the PS3/XB360 fanboys knocking on the Wii because of its graphics. This article just seemed to be an excuse to give the Wii a bit of a bitch slap, and I get tired of seeing it. Of course, the Wii is going to be jaggy. It was never meant to be the powerhouse that the PS3 and XB360 are.

I agree with you, John. I even wrote a whole article about the current-gen graphics focus. However, when you're dealing with screens, there's not much you can say. "They're Wii screens, they look like Wii screens. This is how they compare to the 360/PS3 screens."

I do feel that it will probably look better in motion, though.

I don't care what anyone else says,

This actually looks fun.

I do wish that Wear-Sonic whatever had an aggro mode while speeding.

Burnout Revenge + Sonic = Greatest Idea Ever.

Well I don't think the graphics look all that bad.
You like to poop on things too much.

I don't think that the graphics look too bad, but I have to say without a doubt -- graphics do matter to me and most everyone else (if they are honest).

It's the reason why I only buy games for the Wii that are specific to the platform.

While the 360/PS3 version is being purely done by Sonic Team, DIMPS is helping out the Wii/PS2 version. 'Sonic Rush' for the win!

This isn't the first time you've trashed the Wii's graphics. I'm gonna agree with John B, and I only have like 3 Wii games, so I'm far from a fanboy.

Anyway, the graphics are more than fine. They look much better than any previous Wii or Gamecube Sonic game.

I'm still not interested in this game until they prove that you do more than press right and QTE.

@Spooky: ...or wiggle the damn Wiimote. That seems to be a requirement lately.

In Jim's defense, though, I don't think that he "trashed" it. He's not like the fanbois who make it sound like a game isn't worth playing at all because of the jaggies.

Not to beat a dead horse too much, but by this point we know that the Wii has its limits in terms of polygon count, lighting effects, and all the other nice graphical processing capabilities that go into the PS3 and 360. I wish we could focus more on art design rather than lamenting that the Wii is not capable of more graphics processing. Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Okami, MadWorld, LostWinds, and Fragile all look beautiful in their own right. We can sit here and compare them to other games till the end of time to try and prove something we already know, or we can try to appreciate them on their own merits and pitfalls. In the end it isn't about graphics or gameplay or sound design or story or any other singular element; it is about how these elements come together into a complete game, and this is true no matter what platform your game is made for.

How did Jim trash the Wii's graphics? He stated a fact --- It they don't look as good as the PS3/360 graphics. He never said this game wouldn't be fun just because it's on the Wii. I completely agree with people when they say that the game looks fine --- I'll probably grab this on the Wii when it comes out. But Jim never said the graphics were crap. Just not as good as the other versions.

Back that comment up with proof, because I trash software, not systems.

So, find proof or I call bullshit.

Don't forget, the Wii Sonic & the Secret Rings is being made by the Sonic Rush team, so maybe it won't suck. Much.
