SEGA has confirmed that the second episode of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 won't be coming to the Wii. An official reason for the snub has not been given, but brand manager Ken Balough has said that SEGA still supports Nintendo systems ... obviously.
"The reason Episode I was on the Wii was because we wanted to bring the Sonic 4 saga to the widest possible audience," he said. "Episode II unfortunately will not be coming to the Wii -- for reasons most people have probably guessed, but that doesn’t mean the SEGA isn’t supporting Nintendo platforms, we have a very strong partnership and will continue to do so."

Sonic booomed I tells you.
No one buys anything on WiiWare, but it maybe could have came to the eShop, which is full of people who want to buy things but only have 4 things to buy.
Oh wait, it never was.
I'm surprised they are doing the second one anyway, I thought they forgot about it after Generations, Colors, at the Olympics, Sonic and his College Roommate Experiment, Sonic and His Technicolor Dream Coat, Sonic Goes to Sonic, etc...
So... Wii U?
Is he talking about that Sonic games sell better on Wii than competing platforms? Cause yeah, that reason makes so much sense. That sure was the first and foremost reason I could think of. /drippingwithsarcasm
Oh yeah, the actual news. Meh.
So, good job providing a neat example of that.
Nintendo is making stupid decisions, despite the fact that Mario can print money. It's perfectly ok to call out a multi-billion dollar worldwide corporation - you don't owe them anything.
@arkane
Wii retail Sonic games sell, because of the kiddies, and because parents can walk by Target Electronics when shopping, see, Sonic, and buy it.
Not WiiWare, which parents and kids can't seem to figure out - sales are absysmal. I've heard of small devs actually losing money putting games on WiiWare.
Here's one of the links I was referring to.
2 is the 40mb limit on WiiWare games
3 is Wii is not HD
4 all
pick your favorite
@magnalon
VVVVVV, Metroid 2, Kirby's adventure, Kirby's dreamland, Bionic Commando, Mighty Switch Force, tetris, adventure island, catrap, mega man, super mario land 2. 4 things on eshop??
Come on dude, you're talking about a time where people buy iOS games of ninja cutting fruit, of course people buy things on wiiware.
.... I only own a Wii (well outside my PC)
No real compelling reasons to pick up any of the other systems. I was looking forward to Last guardian but .... that looks sketchy at best. Disgaea3 & 4 are likely to come out on the next gen of handhelds which really removed it as a motivator for the consoles.
Of course the only real reason I picked up a Wii was Skyward Sword .... which sorta turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. Hopefully Xenoblade makes up for that in spades :)
*Goes back to PC gaming
I completely agree with Jim when it comes to the 3ds, it was a terrible little system at launch and a huge troll on a lot of us who spent 250 on a system that had a inferior version of SFIV at launch. It was a even bigger troll on a few of us who spent 250 bucks to play Mega Man Legends 3 which got canned without even giving Prototype a chance, now we pretty much have to shell out another 20 bucks for a little slider attachment. Not to mention Nintendos "compensation" for the people who spent 250 on a terrible system.. we got some games that can be easily played by other methods. In the end this system was a huge troll, and I still wish I would have just saved my money seeing as I still only have about 3 games coming out next year for that God awful little piece of crap.. Makes me sad that the Vita probably won't sell well when there is a system that has a GREAT line up, impressive hard ware, and over all better quality.
Port; port; port; port; port; also on Playstation Minis; 20 year old port; port; port; port; port. This topic is in regards to original content selling well on the eShop (ie what SEGA is after, and is referring to in this article) - the only things I've seen that have been proven to sell well on the eShop are Link's Awakening DX and Pushmo (both Nintendo), and the 4 WayForward games (2 of which have been ported).
Some people buy games on Nintendo's digital fronts - but sales figures show that out of all outlets, WiiWare is consistently the lowest in sales, and many developers feel like it's a waste of time to deal with Nintendo, and the 50MB limit, when they can just put it on Steam/Xbox Live using the most common coding framework that most people already have.
@Scuffles
Disgaea 3 is confirmed for the Vita :D
"Come on dude, you're talking about a time where people buy iOS games of ninja cutting fruit, of course people buy things on wiiware."
Those are original games that cost under a dollar, on a device people always have on them 100% of the time, that can do a hundred of other things.
You're comparing those experiences to 20 year old ports, for $8, on a dedicated gaming hanheld. Not the same market.
Also read the link I posted above.
Yup, parents definitely cant understand how wiiware works. /sarcasm
@magnalon
Zallag...really dude? Im pretty sure that company folded because of the utter shit it was pumping out. Gods vs. Humans and some shitty racing game isnt going to keep an indie company afloat. Add to this the piss poor economy and the fact that thousands of people have no idea how to maintain a business.
Keep on back-pedalling Jim, it ain't working but it's funny. You were on a crusade to complain about the 3DS every 5 seconds (giving the impression that you wanted it to fail just to prove you right), Nintendo ended up succeeding within the year as smart people (like me) said they likely would since it would have games at that point.
You have egg on your face, and the best thing to do would be just to let it go.
---
@Levi Elwood Myers
What exactly are you complaining about?
The fact that YOU bought a system you were well aware didn't have much out?
The fact that Nintendo gave MANY FREE THINGS LASTING POTENTIALLY HUNDREDS OF HOURS when they didn't have to give you ANYTHING?
Maybe you should have waited like the rest of us, because the fact of the matter is all systems have a poor launch. You can only blame yourself.
-----
Well if Sega want to be dumb then they can go right ahead, this whole episodic Sonic thing is boring and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Make Sonic Adventure 3. Make it great like Sonic Adventure 2. Simple.
Damn them for putting Sonic 4 Episode 1 on WiiWare, thinking it would make money, and when it didn't, opting to make the rational decision to not put Episode 2 on there!
Damn that stupid company that's ran by money for wanting to make money! I'm glad Nintendo doesn't run on money!
No one says to have to buy the circle pad attachment. I have a 3DS now and have no intention of buying that extra peripheral ever.
@SephirothX trollolololololololololololololololol
It's not because "they hate Nintendo", or anything stupid like that - from a business sense, they can't make enough money sometimes. If they could make money, they would - it's pretty simple.
Nah, I'm complaining for the fact that Nintendo delivered a shitty console... again. The 3d is nothing special, the graphics are nowhere near as good as they had made them out to be, and now we have to shell out even more money for something that should have been on the console to begin with, the circle pad. Not to mention the fact it's region locked. That console in nowhere near what it was supposed to be. The fact there were no games at launch I could get past, the fact that there still really aren't that many games, and the ones that did come out are pretty mediocre at best, and yes, I mean Zelda which I still think could have been a helluva lot better in terms of a "remake", and mario kart 7... still the same game. In the end that console is a failure, it may have sold well because peoples mommies bought it for them on Christmas, but it still is a piece of trash system in my opinion.Also, I shouldn't be punished for buying something new, that's not how anything works. Nintendo is a dick for doing so.
While I agree that it's never a bad thing to turn down free games, it hardly makes up for the HUGE price drop within the same year. 20 old games does not make up for a 80 dollar price drop within a year of a systems launch.
Again, I agree with Sterling, this system was and probably still is a huge troll on us, but oh well.
I do. I'm not too crushed by this news, though, since I'm a multiconsole gamer. The news kinda makes sense, what with the Wii U just around the corner.
I'm pretty sure it has been stated that a few games will require the circle pad, not to mention the ones that don't will probably leave you with one major hand cramp. Your not forced to buy one, no, but to enjoy future games you pretty much have to.
A company that doesn't care about money is either a stupid company, or out of business.
Lol! Yeah because a company will retract their game from a digital distributor in order to NOT make more money. Thats the best business decision anyone has ever made. We all know how companies detest making money on multiple fronts.
http://www.sonicstadium.org/2010/11/sonic-4-1-game-on-psn-wiiware-fails-to-chart-on-appstore/
The funny thing is, I'm not even a Sonic fan. i just think its foolish to think nothing sells on wiiware when Sonic4 ep1 and World of Goo have proven otherwise.
Hope signs pointing toward a PC release are right. I get the impression Generations sold very well on PC, maybe that will encourage them.
I don't blame them for not releasing it on the Wii, but it would have been nice if you own a Wii and get an episodic game to be able to play episode 2 on the same system you bought episode 1 on.
I'm aware of that, but since we dont own Sega or know its inner workings, you cant say that they wouldnt make a profit. For all we know they could be waiting for some sort of development kit in order to port it to WiiU down the line.
Anyway, great convo lol
I guess you have a point. I only thought about retail Sonic games.
I know Wiiware isn't nearly as popular as XBLA or PSN, but it can't be that much trouble for a big company like Sega to port it to Wiiware.
