Sonic The Hedgehog 2 on XBLA this Wednesday photo

This Wednesday, we'll all be able to relive the good old days when Sonic games didn't utterly suck. While Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has appeared on numerous systems already, the XBLA version will be the first port to include both online and offline co-op.

Interestingly enough, the Wii's Virtual Console just got Sonic the Hedgehog 3 today. Why is this interesting? For starters, this version of Sonic 3 has no online multiplayer and is more expensive than XBLA's Sonic 2. While they aren't the same games, they're still pretty freaking similar.

So Dtoiders, does Sonic 2 sound like a good deal or have you had enough of the game already?

Tired of Sonic. Never was a big fan of Sonic to begin with. Also, tired of XBLA's graphics "upgrades". They tend to look like shit.

I'm a sucker for these old games.. They were my favorites as I was growing up so I love being able to play them whenever I feel like it. I'll definitely buy the game..

I can't decide wether to get this one.

On the one hand I have Sonic 2 on the mega drive and the GC mega collection, plus I never really thought it was that great a Sonic game. I know that's heresy or something, I just prefer sonic 1 and 3.

On the other hand though, it's cheap, HD and will have achievements and possibly online play. ANd I'm a sucker for XBLA games.

What to do?

topher, they could be doing what they did with puzzle fighter, only announce one good game, then all of a sudden in xblm wednesday morning you find a nice surprise

oh i am TOTALLY stoked! Me and a couple XBL friends are sonic freaks and well defintiely be playing the crap out of this online coop

(even though i own these on my Genesis still, thats only offline coop, everything is cooler with online coop X) )

Don't need.
My Mega Drive is still plugged on... I still happen to play Sonic 2 from time to time.
And yeah Sonic sucks now...

I'm gonna go bust out my Genesis and hook up Sonic 2 to Sonic & Knuckles. Playing the game through as Knuckles is just fun as hell.

The image used in the post, where is it from? Is it a screenshot from the XBLA version? If so - those smoothing options look a bit posh. Definitely better than the original with scanlines lol.

When I was a wee lad I had very few games, Sonic 2 was one of them. Because I played it so god damn much I don't think I could play it again and have fun with it. Like having too much of a good thing. If my girlfriend wants it I *may* budge for that, but I won't be buying it for myself.

to be honest sega need to take a page out of capcoms books and do Sonic 1,2,3 & Knuckles HD Remix, WITHOUT CHANGING THE ENGINE OR ADDING A NEW CHARACTER

Fuck the haters, I've been waiting for this one.

I know some people don't give a shit, but I like the extra dinkies that MS throws in like scoreboards, achievements and online play. If any copy of Sonic 2 justified a purchase in this day and age, I'd say it's this one.

Oh, and LOL@ the Virtual Console and it's untouched ROM service.

Hey anyone remember the "Sonic Speed upz" thing. Its Where you start spinning the d-pad and sonic starts spinning and then he takes off real fast. Man I can't wait.

sonic yay! sonic 2 is a classic, i think it was one of the first video games i ever got to play, it never gets old!
Not all new sonic games suck... that gba one was pretty good... although it was pretty much sonic 2/ sonic 3 anyway
