Sonic the Hedgehog 2 HD wins Game of the Year in Narnia photo

Wallpaper designer Alchemist Defined has just ruined my day. He (she?) created an absolutely stunning mock-up image of what Sonic the Hedgehog 2 could look like in HD and now I can’t focus on anything else. All I see when I look down at this mound of work on my desk are images of a beautifully rendered blue hedgehog running through a gloriously polished parallax scrolling universe. Even though it isn’t real, I want this game ... bad.

Hopefully someone at SEGA checks this out and realizes that this is what fans want to see Sonic look like in HD (not this or this). Seriously, can you imagine? Once I am done playing the sequel to Beyond Good & Evil in my fictional videogame world, this is defintiely next.

While it's obviously not news, I just had to share the beauty of this pic with you guys. Check the gallery below for the larger, desktop-ready version (it looks even better blown up!).

What do you all think? Are you drooling all over your keyboard like I am?

@El Fajitas,
Actually, the letters look perfect in the blown up picture. I think they just got a little messed up when I made it smaller for the post.

When I played that part on the XBLA port, I had 0 lives left, 0 continues, and 0 coins ... it would've been so much more epic had it been in real HD like that.

I was never interested in Sonic, but we sure need HD games with 2d sprites. They will be awesome. (Street Fighter HD looks nice but I am saddened by the fact they went for a slightly different artistic approach, Ryu looks different from Street Fighter2, for example, I'd rather have them rework characters keeping the old style)

It definitely looks better blown up. I would download that in an instant. My Saturday mornings as a kid were to wake up, watch cartoons, then sit around and beat Sonic 2 or Sonic and Knuckles at least once. I loved that shit.

In case you never knew, emulators have this nifty option that magically smooths over the pixilated graphics of older games. You can be playing "HD" sonic, as well as "HD" version of all your favorite snes and genesis games right now. Quit wishing, and start downloading.

Color me curious, but why didnt Sega release a revamped piece like this. If Sonic "nextgen" was the original craze we came to love.. it would be a totally different story.

Really enjoying AD's inspiration with this entry. It just screams "awesome!" hehe.

I'd instantly go out and buy an HD-set with a 360 or PS3 if Sega actually brought this out. I loved Sonic 2 and it'd look amazing in HD. And they could fix some of the slowdown while they're at it :D.

Didn't even notice the mouth detail on the enlarged pic until just now. That is some nice work, and I would definitely play that. Polished artwork like this, even on old classics, would be a godsend. I'm not a graphics-whore, but I would love it.

Also, CelicaCrazed's avatar wins everything.

Robotnic looks like a polished wooden toy rather than a metal robot
